Kelly and her husband, Sheriff Mike were about to go on a vacation with Kelly’s son who was on leave when they got a call that one of Mike’s oldest friends was dead–he had fallen overboard amd drowned. Of course they cancelled the trip–not only was Mike the Executor of the estate–he was also the God father to his daughter–plus the drowning happened in his jurisdiction. His friend had decided to drastically lower the amount to go to his wife and his son-leaving the bulk of everything to his daughter.
Obviously none of those affected was pleased about this–he told them himself. What they didn’t know is he had his will changed the day before he died!!
It was hard for me to figure out who actually did it and how. There are a couple of real twists and turns that will keep you wondering and guessing like I did!
I really enjoy reading this mystery series! Mike’s close friend has some bad news he had to tell him. But not long after, his friend is dead. Was it just an accident or did someone kill him? The story is set up where there are a lot of possible suspects. I enjoy the regular characters in this series. Kelly does her own investigating, and there’s always some humor and drama along the way. The dogs in the story and the food recipes are an extra bonus!

I enjoyed this book. This is book 17 in the Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series and it’s just as good and fresh as the very first book. It’s an easy listen and with plenty of suspects to keep you guessing who the killer was, as well as if it was even an accident, murder or suicide. The characters were great and I like the fact that both the husband and the wife find clues to solve the problem, this does mean the story is told by multiple characters. There is a number of returning characters from previous books, giving you the small town feel to the book and it was great catching up with them. I did thing the subject of cancer or the death of Mike’s best friend might have been a tear-jerker but that wasn’t the case and I found myself enjoying the guessing game as the story unfolded.
Mike’s best friend has cancer and knowing his wishes will not go down well with the rest of the family he asks Mike to be executor of the will. He informs them that once the will has been changed two thirds of them will only receive half of what they are expecting. Then Mike gets a phone call to say his friend died in a boating accident. Not able to face the pain the cancer was going to cause was it suicide? With his wife on board Mike doesn’t think so. Accident? The couple had been seen drinking a lot and it was late at night. Or was it murder? The more Mike and Kelly talk to people the more the pair suspect maybe. But with everybody pointing the finger at different family members they will have a hard time finding out what really happened on that night.
I liked the narrator she speaks clearly and you have no problems telling which character is talking.
