In paradise nothing is simple… sank. They knew she knew.
Before they could get to the news, her mind raced. Growing up in Hawaii, daughter to a father-in-law enforcement and a mother whose family is yakuza, she’d known the darker side of life.
As the detectives explained why they’d come, Jessica was only partly listening until they said it was her father who’d died…
…in a plane wreck.
And in that moment, the instinct to grieve was gone. He was meticulous in his maintenance. She didn’t believe it was an accident.
Who murdered her father?
Jessica was going home to Hawaii.
You’ll love this gripping thriller with a taste of romance, because of the twists, turns, and complex characters.

I enjoyed this book very much. I’d call it light reading, but a very well thought out story which kept me interested all the way through, as was ‘Death in Hawaii’ by the same author. J E Trent just gets on with the story without excess ‘ word fluffing’. A very refreshing change.
Great read! Read the book in one day, I couldn’t put it down…
excellent ! best book I’ve read in a long time
Love the Hawaii locations, since I have been to some of the islands recently.
A compelling novel with wonderfully descriptive Hawaiian settings. Loved Jessica and her take charge attitude. Great plot, hang on to the seat of your pants – this book keeps turning and twisting until the end. I couldn’t put it down and I want more!!! Hurry up on the next one, J E Trent!
I love it when the books I read tend to suck me in as though I were standing right there in the hotels or near the beach. The book makes you feel like you are friends with the people involved in the story – you actually feel their frustration, the pain of their losses, the tough life crises they are facing. I just wanted to hug them and tell them that I was sure every thing would work out! Those jerks were described to a tee – and the way some “sharks” come in and try to devour things you work so hard to maintain makes you want to get rid of them for you new friends you have acquired through reading! I was sorry when the book ended and am so ready for more stories by him. Looking forward to when they are on Audible because I would listen to them again and again. One thing I never tire of is a well written story that grabs you and makes you hungry for the turn of the page or the next chapter. Just waiting for the next in his “Hawaiian” stories. I love the feel of real places, the possibilities of real events that have or could have occurred and that’s what I found in this one book!
Good story line and a quick read. Author avoids a lot of tedious dialogue.
A little action, a little romance, scary mobsters, and mystery. What’s not to love!
Always fun to read a book on the islands. Nice break!
Hard to write this, as the basic plot and central characters are good. However…there were way too many over-the-top, unrealistic, overly dramatic events that added nothing to the story and detracted a lot. Too bad.
To anyone who has visited the Islands or are interested in going there. You will enjoy this story. As i read i could see the islands and feel the power of the ocean. I just hated the story to end. And look forward to the next book!
Tried to read this book 2X and didn’t finish 1st chapter.
A great story that highlights a mix of Asian/Hawaiian culture and the expectations of a secret Thai organization that protects the royal family and lives on the edge of terrorism. It’s a modern take with old world practices. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to more in this series.
Being from Hawaii I love books about the islands
Very good read
It often read more like a sort of fleshed out outline than a fully realized description of characters and situations–especially toward the end. I finished it, but don’t plan to read more by this author.
Really enjoyed the characters in this book.
J.E. Trent’s Death in Paradise has an interesting story set in Hawaii. The unexpected and suspicious death of her father sends LAPD officer Jessica Kealoha back to Kona. Here she reunites with her sisters, finds romance, becomes the object of a hit man, and figures out a way to save the family resort. This was an interesting read, but it’s somewhat stilted writing was annoying.
WARNING – Sex! There should be a disclaimer about that! I wanted to like this book cuz of the premise, but with only 15 chapters, I should’ve realized it would be dissatisfying. It was written in a choppy style with not a lot of details, as the author seemed to be writing just the important stuff since the book was so short. The sex was a shock & totally unnecessary. There was also bad language scattered throughout.
good, fun read. enjoyed the setting, tropical island, small intricate communities, mixed families and cultures have always interested me. enjoyed!
