Friday and Zander; star cross lovers unite for one hell of a challenge! On to the next book! I read this with my kindle unlimited.
I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. This has in no way changed how I feel about this book. On to the review:
This book was written brilliantly. It was written in a way where it sucked you in right from the beginning. The world created for you is both brilliant, and a tad scary. It was explained well so it was easy to follow along and didn’t confuse you. The author is brilliant.
Friday is just like any other girl. She’s trying to figure where she wants her life to go all while dealing with family pressures. She is strong, brave, and quite hilarious. She’s sassy, and sarcastic. Then there’s Zander. He’s brilliant, and strong. He’s quick with plans. He’s also not sure of himself because he’s doesn’t think the same as his clan. Together they make one heck of a pairing. Together they are stronger, smarter, and so much more. Together they have all the more reason to fight and survive.
This book is full of action. It literally had me on the edge of my seat. There are a few twists that have the duo wondering if staying together is what they should be doing. They have moments of uncertainty. Will they make it out? Will they make it together? Or will they choose to go their separate ways? Read to find out! You won’t be disappointed.
A war has been declared. Whose side will you be on?
It’s a paranormal Hunger Games. Kinda. Regardless, it is a very interesting and refreshing story!
The author took a unique approach on vampirism. In which Friday is one, but isn’t the full-blown vampire we would think of yet. She needs to die in order to be a full vampire. Then she’ll drink blood but for now can live off of food. Again, unique.
After a family dinner, Friday is taken along with other paranormal creatures. One by one, they’re let out and the hunter assigned to them hunts them to kill them. It’s considered an initiation ritual. Zander is assigned to Friday. Being the son of the lead hunter, he is given the most intense creature: the one that needs to be killed in order to be a full vampire, and then killed again in order to rid the world of her. The hunters exist in order to help humanity and protect them from danger.
As expected, Zander and Friday have a connection. He realizes she acts more human and lives lives similar to theirs. What I had trouble with is that after being raised in such a world, he never experienced another vampire who was gentle and thus “humanlike”? It’s not just her since her family is described as not being killers. He should have encountered another vampire who too was gentle. Maybe.
And so, Zander helps her escape. He’s found as a traitor. They run, get caught, and run again. It’s a shorter novel so not much happens in the plot, but it’s effective and good. Got the main ideas across without being too cluttered. It’s the first of a trilogy that I assume will end with a fight and Zander stopping his hunter group.
I liked both characters. I’d like to know more about them though. So far we just have lust and like between them with two kisses having happened. But I assume more will happen shortly.
Good book and I look forward to more.
