Death Doesn’t Bargain is the second historical fantasy title in New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Deadman’s Cross series. Where Deadmen tell their tales, and every soul is damned or redeemed by the final choices they make. The Deadmen are back… But so are the demons who have broken free of their eternal prison and are bent on mankind’s destruction. The worst of the lot is … destruction. The worst of the lot is Vine, determined to claim their lives for taking hers. She will see the world burn…and has the perfect lure to destroy them all. One of their own.
Kalder Dupree has never known a day of mercy. Born to the cruelest of mer-races, he sacrificed himself for his crew and is in Vine’s hands. He expects no mercy or rescue.
Yet Cameron Jack is determined to set Kalder free. As a Hellchaser, it’s her calling, and she cannot allow even a not-so-innocent to be tortured for an act of kindness that spared her damnation.
To defeat evil, it sometimes takes an even worse evil, and Cameron is willing to do whatever she must to make this right. If Vine thought she had her hands full before, she hasn’t seen anything nearly as powerful as Cameron’s resolve.

Another awesome adventure with captain bane and his deadmen crew!! In death doesn’t bargain we find out more about kalder dupree one of devyl deadmen crew. Kalder is one of my faves and when he was taken away by vine in the last book deadmen walking we were left not knowing if he’d survive. He did, vine imprisoned and was torturing him and he also found out that vine had his brother who died, their also . Thorn is able to get kalder released and back to the crew. But once again vine and her cronies are out to cause mayhem,so when kalder’s brother muerig is released by vine and shows up,the deadman crew know that trouble is gonna come knocking on their door!!! Kalder not only finds out secrets from his past, but he also is falling more in love with cameron Jack and together between all the chaos that surrounds them these two different souls find a happiness and connection that neither has every known. Kenyon is a hell of a storyteller!! She pulls you in with characters that seem like family and I love her world,it’s never boring!! Anytime thorn, acheron ,Simi or savitar are around you know shit’s about to go down!! And their was even a appearance by jaden!!! I want to know more about all these immortals and their back stories!!
Great author
I liked this one much better than the previous one. Still, the ending was very abrupt and sudden and rushed. Still, better.
Did not finish.
Big fan of all Sherrilyn Kenyons stories. I love how she shares characters from The Dark Hunters Series with The Deadman series, she has created this world, brings these amazing to life with there crazy humor, vivid action scenes, and awesome sex scenes, can’t wait to see where this series is headed, with the multi character voice of Holter Graham
Classic Kenyon! And the surprises! Amazing!
She has never wrote a bad book. This is no exception
I love this author! Have read almost all of her books! I love how she incorporates the characters from her other books into every storyline. She is a brilliant writer with a phenomenal creative mind. Always a “must read”!!
Everything you could want in a book! You have a great story line, fighting, sex, back stabbing, fantasies, mermans! Family feuds and family love, and it leaves you wanting more! Like I said, what more can you ask for!
Although not nearly as love story focused as some of the previous books I’ve loved, this was definitely action packed with the twisted and witty banter that makes me wish these characters were real. This book felt more like a family tale, albeit a very twisted and dysfunctional family. The relationship between Cameron and Kalder felt more like a side plot. This felt more like a linking book meant to get necessary information about the Deadmen and the chaos happening in the demon world to the readers for an upcoming bigger, badder battle. An enjoyable story, but definitely didn’t feel like a romance to me the way some of the previous Dark and Were Hunter books have been.
Very word heavy trying to pull in too much character history. Slow
So many characters. It was hard to follow.
Note: This review contains NO spoilers
And…. This historical fantasy adventure continues… Gah!!! This second installment dives into the rich historical and mythological world that Sherrilyn keeps creating. I am new to all this, but after reading book 1, Deadmen Walking, I was sucked into this incredibly adventurous, mythological world. Then, this second book comes out… Whoa!!!
Again, this second installment is filled with adventure with an abundance of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. And, with the various amount of characters in this story, this story puts much of its focus on Kalder and Cameron. Their story in itself is an adventure.
However, it doesn’t take away from the other character stories that are intertwined in and with each other. Hmmm… It definitely gives for a plenty of potential storylines and plots… Right?!?! Well, there is an abundance of that in this series. This second book just gives readers more to of it. But, it did seem a bit rushed towards the end… ‘Nuff said.
Sherrilyn masterfully creates this fantastical and mythological world that stands on its own. Filled with action and adventure, Death Doesn’t Bargain does not disappoint there. But… To end it with a cliffhanger!?! Really… Now, I have to wait!?! Well, it is worth the wait…. I guess
Death Doesn’t Bargain is a page-turning adventure that contains various exciting and fantastical elements that pulled me into their world of dark wonderment and mythology and kept me at the edge of my seat. You definitely do not want to put this down because you just might miss what happens next to the Deadmen crew.
Yo Ho Ho, Sherrilyn Kenyon takes no prisoners with DEATH DOESN’T BARGAIN, the second book in the Deadman’s Cross series. The Deadman were given a chance to redeem their soles by being part of Thorn’s Hellchaser army. They are tasked with killing the demons who escaped their prison and threaten mankind. This Historic Fantasy takes place in 1717. It is mermaid, Kalder Dupree’s and Sephirii, Cameron Jack’s story.
I made the mistake of reading DEATH DOESN’T BARGAIN without reading book one, DEADMAN WALKING. It took a few chapters for me to get all the characters straight and figure out what was going on. After I did, I loved this story. I want to go back and read book one to find out what I missed.
I really enjoyed Kalder’s character. We discover a lot of interesting things about his past and his lineage. He is not all that he appears. He is a good (mer)man, despite his cruel upbringing. He carries a lot of guilt, some of it unwarranted. He is selfless, always putting others before himself. Cameron is an interesting compliment to Kalder. She is sweet, caring, curious, and honest. They have a yin-yang relationship.
The Deadman have many interesting adversaries. It keeps the plot exciting. I love that DEATH DOESN’T BARGAIN takes place in the Dark-Hunter Universe, and that characters like Acheron make an appearance in the novel. The story frequently reminded me of a more serious Pirates of the Caribbean. However, it does have its funny moments.
As always, Sherrilyn Kenyon’s writing style is exemplary. You feel like you are in the proper time-period. I really liked the epilogue. I am highly anticipating the release of book three, AT DEATH’S DOOR. Followers of Kenyon’s Hunter Legends Series should enjoy this book. Furthermore, people that like pirate fantasies with a paranormal twist. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
