So many twists and turns! This is my first book of the series, but it was easy to get into and catch up with what was happening. I really enjoyed it.

Such a wonderful cozy mystery. This was so much fun to read.
Wonderful Characters, wonderful plot. Author Danielle Collins has done such a wonderful job with this book…Loved it.
I enjoyed Death by Dessert. It is a basic cozy mystery, which I enjoy. However, I think I would have enjoyed it much better if I had read the books in order. It wasn’t that Ms. Collins doesn’t give enough backstory, she does. It’s just that the overall arc of the series would be much more enjoyable if read in order. The characters are down-to-earth, relatable, and realistic. The dialogue feels natural, for the most part, and there are a couple of twists. It is not a deep, psychological thriller by any means, but it doesn’t pretend to be. Good, quick, escapist reading. These are the pros of this book.
Now for the cons (you didn’t think it was perfect, did you?). This book could use the services of an editor and a proofreader; at least a proofreader for sure. There are too many elementary typos that anyone could catch; in other words, no degree needed. For example, I don’t know if the town’s name is Hearts Grove or Heart’s Grove. It was spelled both ways multiple times, but it’s probably Heart’s Grove as that spelling was used the majority of the time. (Maybe not. I just noticed that the title has Hearts Grove Cozy Mystery Book 10. Now I’m really not sure which is correct!) And these two sentences: “The thought was that he was in trouble, and if that were the case her email might help with that since she’d offered to help him out of that trouble, but would he believe her? Would he take her up on that?” That’s five uses of “that” in two sentences. (Now she’s got me doing it!) I’m sure a good editor could have suggested another way to write the sentence so the reader didn’t feel like they were stuttering. I had to read it twice to be sure I understood! Now, I know I’m picky and these things may not bother you at all. Obviously, they weren’t a deal-breaker for me since I gave it 4 stars. It is just one of my pet peeves. I seem to find quite a few indie authors who don’t make use of family and/or friends to proofread for them. If you aren’t interested in putting out the best work possible, why bother?
I will admit my interest has been piqued enough that I will look for the following books in the series (I’m not sure if I’ll go back to the beginning, but I might.) because this was a very good story, all things being equal.
I obtained a review copy from Booksprout and want to thank them and Ms. Collins for allowing me to read it. This is my honest opinion.
Mix deadly chocolate, blackmail, disappearing
bodies, business ruined, tunnels under some
properties, a missing nephew who does not
want to be found.
Henrietta Hewitt lives and runs the H H Antique
Shop in Hearts Grove, Washington. She lives
with a Flame Point Siamese cat named Sepia.
Henrietta is following clues to locate her sister,
Clementine’s son, Calvin. But to no available.
Henrietta along with her beau, Private
Investigator, Ralph Gershwin decide to take a
night out and attending a chocolate tasting at
Sassy’s Sweets. What could go wrong tasting
chocolate?? They are on the last course of the
chocolate tasting, when a man jumps out of
his seat then fall over dead from the chocolate
dessert he just ate. Sassy is arrested.
Henrietta along with Ralph and his son jump
right on their own investigating as they know
their friend has been set up.
But why? By whom? Who is the real murderer?
Relatable characters involved in an unusually
plotted murder and landowning scheme with
the subplot of the nephew who does not want
to be found leads the reader to an intriguing
read.
This is book # 10 in the Hearts Grove Cozy
Mysteries series. This is the first book in the
series I have read. The author mixes the
past and present together effortlessly so
I had no problem following along immediately.
An enjoyable read.
I volunteered to read Death by Dessert. Thanks
to the author via Booksprout for the opportunity.
My opinion is voluntary and my own.

When a man drops dead at a chocolate tasting, Henrietta’s friend is arrested for murder. Convinced the police aren’t digging deep enough to find the true culprit m Henrietta sets her team in motion. This was a fun cozy mystery, with lots of red herrings. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Henri helps to find the killer after someone is killed at Sassy’s tasting. She is also still trying to solve why her nephew is hiding from family. It would be nice if the reasons DWC is after all the land would be explained.

This is another thrilling book in tue series. Henrietta and Ralph once again find themselves in the middle of not one but two murders. They must work to solve these while still trying to unravel the mystery of her missing nephew.

Oh my! DWC is becoming a gigantic problem! I wonder what their end game is. I truly hope Henrietta and Ralph can solve that dilemma! I hope Henrietta finds her nephew, Calvin. I was happy that Sassy was absolved of Mark’s murder. Her Hot Chocolate truffles sounded delicious! I loved reading this book and have definitely enjoyed the entire series so far!
I really enjoyed reading this book. From the opening page the scene is rapidly set for the murder with a very unique “weapon.” Henrietta and her boyfriend Ralph, with the help of their talented employees, have their hands full trying to solve this mystery and get her friend Sassy out of jail. Woven amongst this story, the author has woven a side mystery of trying to locate a missing nephew and one involving a company called The Deep Water Corporation. More to come in the next installment!
I enjoy the characters in this series, but like some others, I am getting rather bored with the DWC. Just tell us what they want to do so Henrietta and Clementine can stop them from changing the town? Can they ever find Calvin? Will they save Sassy from being arrested for murder? You will have to read the book to find out. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this from Booksprout
DWC, Deep Water Corporation, seems to be determined to reshape Hearts Grove. Given the amount of blackmail, ruined businesses and relationships and bodies left in their wake, DWC doesn’t care how they go about achieving whatever their end goals are.
Sassy, s close friend to Henrietta, is the latest to fall prey to manipulations that would cost her her business and the building housing it.
What deeper game is afoot is unclear but more mysteries lie ahead. Fascinating mystery reads!
