When Krissy Hancock and her best friend Vicki decide to open a bookstore café in their new town of Pine Hills, they decide to call it “Death by Coffee,” after Krissy’s father’s most famous mystery novel. Little do they know how well the name fits… peanuts…but how could there have been nuts in his coffee? And who stole his emergency allergy medication?
Fortunately, Krissy’s love of puzzles and mysteries leads her not only to Officer Paul Dalton, but also to many of her new neighbors, who aren’t terribly upset that the book is closed on Brendon. But one of them is a killer, and Krissy needs to read between the lies if she wants to save her new store—and live to see how this story ends…

This book twisted and turned and honestly I LOVED it! I got hooked from the first page and I only put it down when I HAD to! The cats lived up to their names and I honestly wouldn’t have that in my house. I’m very excited to read the rest of the books and pray they are as good as this one or better.
Krissy Hancock and her best friend, Vicki, have moved to Pine Hills, Ohio and opened a bookstore cafe. On their first day of business, Krissy serves a man coffee and learns that he died shortly afterwards. He had a severe peanut allergy which he somehow ingested and his Epi-Pen was missing. Krissy doesn’t believe it was an accident and is pulled into the mystery. But as she investigates, she learns just how complicated things can be in a small town.
This was the first in the series and I really enjoyed it. It made a great start to the series and I’m looking forward to the rest of the books. The book’s well-written with wonderful characters. I was pulled in from the beginning and read this book in one sitting. I highly recommend it.
I like the story-line of Death by Coffee. It is a cute idea to have a coffee shop /book store, and not a chain but a home town independent store. I don’t understand how the store was ready to go, set up, books stocked and Krissy (co-owner) moves to town the day before it opens so it would have been good to have that pre -story explained.
The murder mystery was interesting. I didn’t figure out who the killer was until half way through. I do wish the characters were a little more developed but it’s the first book of the series, so I’m sure they will probably grow.. I liked that the police chief and the officer are related, but not pushy about it. Overall a good read and a fun cozy mystery.
Death by Coffee, sounds like a great title for a great series. One side of the store is for coffee and conversation, the other half is a bookstore. What’s not to love? I was really looking forward to starting this series and was highly disappointed. I did not love this series at all! I felt the protagonist Krissy, was rude and her character lacking. The “gorgeous” best friend was hardly in the story.
The story itself would have been great if there had been more development of plot and characters. Most of the characters felt shallow, I couldn’t wait to finish the book. Not because it was better as I read, but because I was so frustrated with the entire thing. I feel giving this book three stars was being generous. I don’t think I will continue with the series.
I started off really liking this cozy. By the time I was finished, it was just ok. I either liked the main character and laughed or she annoyed me. I really like the idea of a coffee shop and bookstore together especially ran by best friends.
I loved this story! I started laughing on page 3 and never stopped through the whole book! The characters are just fantastic, and I was not able to figure out the culprit until the reveal. This is a great story–and I’m sure you will agree with me after reading it for about two minutes!
Best friends Krissy and Vickie have moved to Pine Hills and opened a bookstore and coffee shop. They’ve even named it Death by Coffee after one of Krissy’s dad’s bestselling mystery novels. But they find themselves in a real life mystery on their first day in business when a customer buys a cup of coffee, takes it to his office across the street, and dies. Krissy will have to act fast to clear their shop of any wrong doing in the crime.
The book sounded like fun, and I really wanted to like it, but the truth it is turned out to be average. The plot was a little uneven at times, but it still advanced to a great and logical climax. The suspects were good, but most of the series regular characters were a bit flat. Krissy did some embarrassing things that made me cringe, and her cat was annoying. Here’s hoping the series gets better as it goes along.
