USA TODAY BESTSELLER!First book in the Death by Chocolate series Lindsay loves chocolate. It tastes good, it makes her feel good, it never cheats on her like her almost-ex-husband. It’s her best friend. But someone wants her dead and uses her weak spot—chocolate—to try to murder her. Lindsay’s only secret is the recipe for her chocolate chip cookies, but she is surrounded by neighbors with deadly … by neighbors with deadly secrets. Suddenly she finds herself battling poisoned chocolate, a psycho stalker, and a dead man who seems awfully active for a corpse.
Her best friend and co-worker, Paula, dyes her blond hair brown, hides from everybody and insists on always having an emergency exit from any room. Secrets from Paula’s past have come back to put lives in jeopardy.
Determined to help Paula, Lindsay enlists the reluctant aid of another neighbor, Fred, an OCD computer nerd. In spite of his mundane existence, Fred possesses tidbits of knowledge about such things as hidden microphones, guns, the inside of maximum security prisons and how to take someone down with a well-aimed kick to his chin.
As Lindsay battles the elusive stalker, poisoned chocolate, and the dead man, she will need more than a chocolate fix to survive. But that’s always a good start.

The characters were interesting. It was unpredictable.
I loved this book from start to finish. So much so that I have bought books 2 & 3 and have been speeding through them as well. So happy the series does not end at 3! Can’t wait to keep going and see what happens next!
This is a good read with sardonic wit, a good mystery filled with great quirky characters. What a neighborhood to live in! Kept me laughing and guessing.
Definitely worth reading! Hard to put down. Will read the entire series.
The twist on how the “Death by Chocolate” occurred was interesting.
A somewhat convoluted tale with a surprise twist near the end.

I love, love this character, Lindsey! She’s a wonderful, mouthy broad who doesn’t take herself seriously. Ms. Bernathy gives her a smart mouth, a headstrong attitude, and all the girl-power she needs to solve crimes – even if her paranoia crops up once in a while.
Very fun read, characters were folks I’d like to spend time with over a coffee and a chocolate cupcake.
Loved the Whole series.. Great and fun reads, great characters.
enjoyed the story
A fun read with great characters, I enjoyed it very much and have read the rest of the series
Ready for more!
i enjoy reading this book because it contains a combination of mystery, romance old and new, and funny events.
But character eats way too much chocolate. I started reading just how much chocolate she can eat.
Nice, light, fun reading. Kept interest.
This was a really fun book to read. The main character, the owner of a bakery named Death by Chocolate, has a soon-to-be ex-husband who makes a nuisance of himself and a neighbor who is a bit of a mystery. Strange things happen. There are parts that are laugh out loud funny.
Although not “great literature” this was a fun read. I enjoyed it so much, I ordered the 2nd and the 3rd books and will order the 4th. Fans of Evanovich will like this, although all things chocolate made this even more delightful.
Unanswered questions about neighbor’s work. Far fetched reasonings for cpc calls insteading taking boy and running since she thought husband was dead already.
The plot was different from many of the mysteries offered, a cozy in spite of the violence suggested. The heroine was unrealistically brave. She also had a good backup team ,the extraordinary Fred and her very protective King Henry , all signs of a happy ending to come with enough unanswered questions to entice to the next story in the series.
