Let me just say — none of this was supposed to happen. I didn’t expect the letter to go viral. I didn’t think anyone would figure out who Dear Sexy Ex was. And I especially never thought he would find out about it. Yeah, bit of a miscalculation there. But see, I need the money to fund my brand new venture. And Dear Sexy Ex, well, it turns out he needs me to save his business. By becoming his fake … business.
By becoming his fake fiancée.
Yup, that’s the pickle I find myself in — pretending to be madly in love with the charming, brilliant, and utterly infuriating man known as Dear Sexy Ex.
Only, it’s not an act. And he can never know.
Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend is a standalone romance you can escape into! The other standalone romances in The Guys Who Got Away series include The What If Guy and Thanks For Last Night!

I love a friends to lovers story to begin with, and when Lauren Blakely writes it…..I know it’s going to be amazing!
Oliver and Summer are best friends and have been for some time. He was always there for her and even took her to her prom.
Summer wants to open a gym for Seniors, but she’s short on cash. Although, her mother has told her time and time again she’ll giver her the money, Summer wants to do it on her own. So she enters a contest to win money to help her make her dream come true. But, all doesn’t go as she had planned it to and the letter goes viral. She’s tried to keep Oliver out of it (the letter was about him being an ex-boyfriend but it got twisted), sadly it gets figured out that Oliver is the ex and that’s where the story takes off.
These two tried so hard to fight the chemistry between them. They were best friends and neither wanted to have a relationship and probably ruin their friend status because of a break up.
Can these two stay “just friends”? I enjoyed Oliver and Summer, and I’m happy with the way the story went!
Funny! I’ve volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. What a fun way to start a new Rom-Com series! This story is about Oliver and Summer. Oliver and Summer have been friends since high school. Summer is sassy, sarcastic, sweet, but she is fiercely independent and determined to do it all on her own. Oliver is an intelligent, realistic, attorney who likes to plan and be prepared at all times. Who is also Summers’ best friend twin brother. These two are good at self-protection and trying to make sure their friendship does not suffer. They’re both likable characters with real, honest vulnerabilities, and watching them figure things out definitely held my attention. Can they figured out how to be together or lose their friendship? You will definitely need to read this one. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend by Lauren Blakely is The Guys Who Got Away book #1, and if it’s anything to go off of we have lots of great characters and steamy stories to come. Summer and Oliver have been friends for a long time, and they would never risk that friendship. That is until Summer’s letter went viral. Now it turns out they need each other as partners, but can their friendship survive a fake relationship. Sometimes it’s true, you gotta fake it to make it, but when fake becomes real, real can be real good.
A friends to lovers and fake-fiance story, Lauren Blakely strikes a chord with Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend and her amazing characters. I very much enjoyed and recommend.
This is the first book in The Guys Who Got Away Series. This is a great friends to lovers/fake fiancé’s romance. Oliver and Summer’s story is sweet, fun, sexy, and romantic. They are great together, and they share an undeniable chemistry. I like their friendship, and their flirty banter. The supporting characters are great. Shane East and Andi Arndt did an amazing job with the narration, as always! Shane East is the perfect choice as Oliver. The appearance of Joe Arden and Kit Swann is a great addition to the story. I enjoyed it.
This book was a humorous best friends to lovers love story. It was a book that kept my attention from start to finish. Oliver and Summer have played fake boyfriend/girlfriend many times of the years but this time after a letter not meant to go public Oliver announces that Summer is now his fiancee. From cookie dough classes to falls into the lake the laughs kept coming. Another excellent job by Lauren Blakely
Sexy kisses…best friends to lovers…so much to love about this story!
So each of these are standalones, but they are so much more fun if you’ve read the series. Oliver is Jason’s cousin who is one of my favorite Brits. Oliver and Summer have been friends since childhood and neither really wanted to be more…or at least they never admitted it to themselves.
What starts out as a letter for a contest to earn some much needed business money turns into a viral sensation. This just goes to show how social media can take off in a second. This leads to complications with Oliver’s business and next thing you know…you are fake engaged.
This story was witty, funny, entertaining, and I’m not sure I’ve ever read about sexier kisses – oh my!! That was hot!!
In addition – these are words to live by…”Carbs and cheese are the hallmarks of a well-lived life.” Amen!
This book was an absolute delight and I can’t wait to read more in this series. I adored this book!!
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
I adored this book. It made me laugh so much and I loved the characters, even though their whole resisting due to messing up their friendship bit got a bit old for me after a while, I get it. But so much of it was just plain truth. First, there is the whole thing about being friends with someone good looking having the horrible side effects of not being able to help yourself from occasionally thinking thoughts about them you know you shouldn’t. And then I learned a new dating term, submarining. It’s happened to me a couple times. Guys on Tinder that I think have ghosted me all of a sudden pop back up a few months later and want to talk again. So now I’ve learned ghosting and submarining. Both suck.
Now whenever a book tells me to Google something, let’s just say that I do it. And when I tried to Google just the name of the person they said in the book, I didn’t have pop up first what they did, so that was a little disappointing. LOL!
Otherwise, I could hardly put the book down to do anything else, and I sped through the story whenever I had a minute to spare. I definitely want to read the others that we know will be about probably her brother and also I think one of Oliver’s friends.
Lauren Blakely has written another romantic comedy that is a must-read. Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend was such a fun read. Using letters written and published on social media we see the story between Oliver and Summer flourish. Summer works in a nursing home but has been saving to open her own gym that would support the elderly. Oliver is a lawyer that only wants to help his clients and support the people that work with and for him. They have been friends since they were children and have always been supportive of each other. Summer is working towards opening her gym and needs additional funding to make her dreams come true. Entering a contest she writes a letter to her sexy ex-boyfriend that takes the internet by surprise as well as Oliver. Oliver makes a snap decision that will change the course of his future along with Summers. Text messages, Twitter conversations, and written letters open Oliver and Summer to love and forever together.
What a wonderful bunch of characters and a great story. It’s a fiasco that both makes you laugh and cry ! Easy to read and you won’t want o put it own !
Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend is a fun, low-angst, sexy read. This isn’t just a friends-to-lovers book; Oliver and Summer have been friends since high school! I just love how their relationship developed as they got older and how they were always there for one another. Oh, and there’s a lot of Lauren Blakely’s signature witty banter in this one, too.
Aside from Oliver and Summer, we also get to meet Summer’s twin brother, Logan, and Fitz. Logan’s story will be told in The What If Guy and Fitz’s in A Guy Walks Into My Bar. Can’t wait!
Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend is a slow burn, friends-to-lovers, brother’s best friend contemporary romance written in dual first-person POV. It’s a standalone that ends with a HEA. No cliffhanger, no cheating.
Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend was a witty, endearing and all around great feel good read. Summer’s sassy, smart and determined personality paired with Oliver’s sexy, sweet, yet serious one made for fun times and swoonworthy moments. I adored their friendship and how unbeknownst to them the lines began to blur until suddenly both were questioning what they each truly wanted. Their banter kept me laughing constantly, the chemistry between them sizzled, and these two gave me all the warm fuzzies I could ask for. I enjoyed the dynamic group of family and friends peppered throughout their story and look forward to more from them in the near future. All together Dear Sexy Ex- Boyfriend was a fun, flirty, and delightful romance that kept me riveted from start to finish.
Best Fake Fiancee ever! Sexy, sweet, witty, & hot!!
Summer & Oliver have been friends forever.
They have been there for each other through a lot. They’ve faked a relationship before. He was her prom date. He’s her brother’s best friend.
Summer decides to write a letter dedicated to him for a contest to try to win $5000 to help fund the gym she wants to open. She doesn’t expect the letter to open the can of worms it does.
The can of worms that leads to Oliver needing her to play his fiancee to save his reputation and his business.
They find themselves realizing there is more between them than just friendship. Their ‘romance’ charms New York…or at least the Twitterverse that follow the contest that publishes her letter.
Unfortunately, the course of true love ne’er did run smooth.
They even get themselves banned from the swan boats in Central Park.
Funny, sweet, most definitely steamy.
This friends to lovers story was a fantastic addition to Lauren’s bookiverse. We see old friends and we get a glimpse of what’s to come.
I floved it!
This is the kind of book you need in your life right now. The world is on fire and Lauren Blakely is here to save the day. If you’re feeling any kind of anything, read this book because it will immediately pull you out of whatever you might be feeling. I guarantee it. Seriously, it’s the best de-stressor out there. Actually, all her books seem to be hitting that sweet spot lately and I sure am glad because I could use some joy for joy’s sake right about now.
Lauren had been blowing my mind lately because even though the stories are mostly low on the angst, they have so much emotion and heart that they make the perfect afternoon reads! This friends to lovers story is gonna put a smile on your face! #TRUST
Wow I must say that Lauren has once again wowed me with her fabulously funny tale with a big dash of sexual tension staring Oliver & Summer! They have been friends forever and yes that might be hiding a bit of a crush for one another, although they think that they hid it well! I absolutely loved their effortless friendship and their crazy, quirky, so funny banter. Get your one click finger ready and prepare to fall in love with this adorable couple.

This is the best friends-to-lovers romance that I’ve read in a long time!
Summer and Oliver are perfect together. I was up all night smiling and swooning.
It has a great storyline full of emotion that flows seamlessly. The writing is amazing and Lauren can make you cry, laugh and fall in love with these beautiful characters a million times.
Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend is an enjoyable read that left me wanting so much more!
When I first read this one, I don’t know why the book was named such title. But then as I get reading more of their story, now I understood why. This is is yet another wonderful friends to more story from Lauren Blakely.
Oliver and Summer have been best friends since forever. They were each other’s support system through every thing. So when Oliver needed to keep his client after Summer published a letter no one was ever supposed to connect to him, they agreed to concoct a story how they’re engaged. They became a sensational couple from one post to another, so they needed to keep up with the ruse.
Well, you guessed it, the more they fake it, the more they feel the lines blurring.
I don’t think you could ever go wrong with Lauren Blakely. This was sweet, funny and charming friends to lovers romance
Very Sexy Ex Boyfriend
4.5 stars!! Dear Sexy Ex boyfriend is book #1 of The Guys Who Got Away Series.
Friends to Lovers story. Oliver and Summer will make you swoon. This is a
standalone but I can’t wait to read more from this series.
This was so sweet and fun. Oliver and Summer are perfect together and capture your heart from the beginning.
Summer is the fun, extroverted girl who loves to help others. She has a stubborn streak when it comes to the opening of her gym to cater to the older crowd. An older crowd that in this book is a absolute hoot. That pole scene had me rolling on the ground laughing. She doesn’t mind trying new things and is always there for her friends. Her best friend being Oliver and they have been friends forever. They have helped each other out of situations since high school. So when she writes that letter for a contest that was a thank you to him she never expected what was to happen. She didn’t expect him to have to get her help saving his business.
Oliver is the sexy brit that is fun and serious. he is there for his friends and loyal to a tee. Always there for Oliver and his buddies and never wavers in his loyalty. He is sweet and kind but also funny and sarcastic. Him and Summer have some great banter and fun times together. When Summer writes that letter and it gets him in hot water is when his life changes and for the better. Him and Summer are now engaged for fake. For Oliver though he begins to realize that his feelings for Summer have always been there but he is afraid to acknowledge them due to his fear of losing her. So he buried them for so long. Until they started to do things engaged.
The times they were together were a hoot. The cookies and the swan boat ride. Especially the swan boat ride had me laughing. But his speech about his love for her when he was really raw with others and himself had me swoon.
This is told from both Summer and Oliver’s view. I love Summer’s outlook but Oliver took the cake. You see how he slowly realizes his feelings and truly see his raw emotions more and that is why I like his view. Summer is just outgoing and we see her emotions but not as much as Oliver. Both fear losing each other but with Oliver you feel closer to that feeling because of all he has gone through. These two together are fun, sweet and meant for each other. They understand and support one another and also respect each other. They have crazy chemistry and are just fun and entertaining as is this book. There is little angst and lots of fun moments. The ending was so sweet and turns you into mush as they realize they belong with one another. Oliver will have you swoon. A great book from beginning to end.
Interesting and different storyline. Summer and Oliver have been best friends since he moved to town, and while it seems like they’re attracted to each other, they haven’t ever attempted something more. She has a life goal of opening a gym for seniors, and even though she works hard and has a great idea she can’t get anyone to give her the capital to start. As a way to raise the money, she enters a contest and writes about Oliver – and it ends up going viral! Not knowing what things are about, Oliver is confused but then uses Summer to help him keep a client after he potentially loses them after the contest. Pretending to be a couple and engaged, they finally succumb to the feelings they’ve had towards each other for so long, but when things need to end for the contest, they become miserable apart. Once they realize they’re perfect for each other and come to their senses, they decide to give things a chance together and everything in their lives start to fall into place. I expected so much from this storyline, but there was something missing for me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Lauren Blakely has done it again! Anyone who loves rom-com’s will love this book! I loved that it was a couple of troupes that I frequently read-best friends to lovers, and the ever popular fake fiance’! Lauren did right by us on this one!
Summer is vivacious girl! Very optimistic and goal driven! Her dream is to have a gym built solely for the senior citizen population. She is systematical and she is determined to do everything herself-no help from anyone.
Oliver is a lawyer. He is a bit cocky of himself as he knows he has the looks! Being successful and comfortable, he has always gotten what he wants. Summer has been his best friend since their childhood days, and he has been a bit slow in realizing what he really wants is Summer.
I loved how their friendship is! They know each other very well, but never crossed that line. Through this book, that line begins to blur more and more when they are forced to do some damage control when social media wreaks havoc on them! Well thought out plot!!
I really enjoyed this book and I was ok without all the angst that so many people love! Even though we are well aware of how this is going to end up, I was loving every minute of seeing them get there! This was an enchanting, sweet, and fun book to read!
