Eleanore Burrows has far from the typical life of a young person. Her life at the hands of her parents, were a living hell.
Yet, once away from them and living on her own in the big city, life improved.
She was working toward her dream job, sharing her life with a small circle of close friends and moving away from the past that physically caused her anguish.
Life was close to normal.
That is, until she met Roman Blackwood…. she agreed to a date with the sexy detective, but when he didn’t show up on time, someone else took his place….someone more evil than Eleanore could have imagined….
Her Captor
Dear Captor had me wondering, guessing and questioning everything. Reading on, the dark took over, causing a lump in my throat, in what the horror of Eleanore’s story would bring.
Yet, the heightened need to know more.
Dear Captor is fast-paced and a real page turner.
Nothing is what you believe it is.
Loved this story.
Dear Captor,
You’ve stolen me.
You’ve spilled my blood.
You’ve brought me pain.
But what you’re yet to realize is . . . I’m a fighter.
I’ve been broken before.
I’ve at one point even lost the will to live.
So now you know . . . this information I gift to you.
I’m ready for you, so do your worst.
Sincerely,
Elenore

WOW WOW WOW, READ THIS IN ONE SITTING,
Ends on a cliffhanger but you will want to continue this exciting story
I love the dark reads
I knew I was getting a story broken up into a serial and that each book was of novella/short story length. (This took way less than two hours to read). So I was all prepared to give the author kudos for this honesty but sadly there is no mention of the brevity of the book nor that it ends on a cliffhanger.
I am still rating the book on how much I enjoyed it, as it is a really good start to the story, otherwise I would have knocked a star off. The book is written very much like a mini-series and I’m intrigued to see how it plays out. I do hope it doesn’t end up feeling like one book chopped into 3 parts as the author is talented and shouldn’t need to rely on that ploy to sell books.
The writing drew me in and held my attention throughout, it flows smoothly and was easy to read. There is so much mystery, suspense and threat in the book that at times I almost didn’t want to get to the next page. I did, however, feel a little sad that the scenes between Elenor and The Captor were quite brief and lacking detail, however I have a feeling this will change in Book 2!
The heroine, Elenore, is a woman whose parents inflicted horrendous mental and physical abuse on her as a child. She came across as rather aloof and as someone who struggled with relating to other people – not surprising given her past. However she also felt very real and had an inner strength about her. We also meet the incredibly hot detective Roman Blackwood and his work partner Tom. Tom came across as a little creepy and at one point I had some doubts about Roman too, but then I became convinced these were all red herrings.
There is definitely some chemistry between Roman and Elenore, but before they had chance to explore those possibilities any further The Captor made his move. This left me unsure, as I am sure it is meant to, whom exactly the hero (or anti-hero) is. I didn’t really make any connection to The Captor character and again this felt like a deliberate ploy by the author that will be remedied in Book 2.
I did thoroughly enjoy this book and most definitely want, and intend, to continue the series to its conclusion
On with book 2 and already got part 3 waiting.
Normally I hate books split into parts like this, judgement is still out will wait until I have read it all before I comment further on SAID SUBJECT.
i do hate authors who split one book into 3 parts or more.
Having to get her bosses lunch she bumps into someone seeing the most captivating eyes meeting hers, then he’s gone, but gets left a business card with his name on it, Detective Roman Blackwood. While waiting for her order she learns on the news that her co-worker, Rebecca, was murdered.
Elenore can’t believe it was the Detective from the coffee shop that comes to question them about Rebecca, or that he comforts her in the bathroom, but he wants to see where it goes with them.
Roman meets her when she’s getting her bosses lunch, Elenore thinks he’s moving to fast and he’s too sure of what he wants, the problem is it feels right and she’s falling for him already.
Although Elenore gets her promotion and can’t wait to tell Roman, it never happens, she feels the hit and then her world goes black.
Roman realises quickly that Elenore has been taking, he knows they have to find her within a week.
Knowing the only way to survive from the freezing and darkness, Elenore only hope that she will pass out soon with the darkness giving her relief.
Roman knows they are running out of time, her friend Suzie thinks they aren’t doing enough, and her friend Lewis won’t answer their calls, but both Roman and Suzie don’t trust Lewis, Roman learns more about Elenore’s past and wonders how she survived.
Her capture returns and lets her know she has to suffer, and she will die soon, but she’s going to do everything to survive. When her capture asks her to write her goodbyes, she doesn’t know who to write to, it would break everyone she knows.
Sometimes the capture wants to be more like others, but can he change, he was inducted by his father, Elenore isn’t crying maybe he wasn’t harsh enough on her, but then he read her goodbye letter, letting her know everyone breaks. He tells her to run, she falls but the joy isn’t the same.
Can’t wait to see what happens in book two.
Dear captor well this is something very different to what I would normally read and certainly different to what Liz Lovelock has ever written that I have read.
I love Liz’s writing and this book there is no exception her writing is on point and kept me glued to book to the point I read this is one sitting, yes it’s a novella but there was no point in time where I could have put it down and I can’t wait for the next 2 to come out.
I loved the 3 point of views in the story and I won’t be saying who they as I don’t want to give anything away but it really gives us what everyone is thinking and how this story is going to unravel.
The Captor who ever he is seems pretty sick in the head and very psychotic and it made me feel really eerie and I really really don’t like him at all….it seems his childhood was pretty stuffed up and he will do anything he wants and hurt whoever he wants. I loved the way the author played this guy and really keeps us guessing of his next move, who he is and really what’s going to happen.
Elenore is a survivor if I have ever read one. She survived her childhood which was really abusive and horrible but she lived and I loved going back to her story when she was younger and loved learning who she really is. I also loved her relationship with Suzie and I really liked learning how they became so close. Towards the end of this book I wasn’t sure what was going to happen but I loved how Elenore wasn’t stupid and really didn’t play into the captors hands.
If you love a book that makes the heart race, violence and quite a mystery and criminal minds feel to it then you have to read this series. This is book 1 and I am hanging to read the next. Even though this is something I haven’t read before I love it when authors I love go off and write something different because it introduces me to different things.
The anticipation has been a real struggle for me waiting for this novel, so when it landed in my Kindle I was ecstatic.
Now sitting here with Dear Captor all complete I am simply lost for words.
And writing this review?
It terrifies me.
But I will say this……..
I refuse to give anything away about this novel because it needs to be read free from any spoilers. And why?
Because I would like to think that this novel will impact you just like it did me.
It literally tore my heart out.
Highly emotional, this novel isn’t for the fainthearted. It’s graphic, highly confronting, raw and gritty. It swallows you whole emotionally and psychologically.
The subject matter is something that you don’t see often in a novel, but yet Liz Lovelock explored it and gave it the respect it deserves. Written with so much depth and detail you can’t help but feel the emotion bleeding from every page.
And believe me when I tell you……It hurts!!
But while it hurts, it also gives you hope.
It gives you hope that no matter how broken you feel, how damaged you are, not only psychically but emotionally, there is always hope that one day things will be better. Hope that the scars will heal. Hope that life will be different, better even.
Because after-all, how can you break when you are already broken?
Liz Lovelock. Thank you so much for your words. Dear Captor for me was simply….Perfection, and I look forward to the next instalment.
Elenore……My heart is with you!!
5 stars.
Dear Captor is the first book by Liz Lovelock that I have read, and I LOVED it! The first story in the Letters in Blood series; this dark story is full of suspense and some interesting twists.
Dear Captor tells the story of a deranged serial killer and his latest victim, Elenore. This is not a genre that I usually chose to read; but Dear Captor completely drew me in from the beginning and I devoured this story quickly in one sitting! The story does end on quite a cliffy; but I can’t wait to see where this story goes next!
Liz Lovelock definitely has a new fan!
Wow! What a beginning!
This is the first book in this series….
It is quick and addicting read..
The suspense of knowing someone is watching her, waiting for his moment..
Not knowing who it is, “the captor” not revealing himself to her…
Great start to this trilogy. Dear Captor is one beautifully dark taste in the Letters in Blood trilogy that will leave you wanting more. Liz did a great job with Eleanor’s story and the strength this character shows. I love how it makes you question everything not knowing where the story is going to go.
Eleanor is a big believer in the saying, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” But there are things much worse than death. She didn’t break before, and she will fight not to break again.
“Every single day I wished to be taken away from what I endured.”
“My entire childhood was a survival story, and now I have another.”
Eleanor’s captor wants to break her and see her suffering like the others before her. The thing is, Eleanor has faced monsters just like him before. She has the will, and hopefully will find a way, but one things for sure… she won’t go down easy and without all the fight she’s got left.
Dear Captor is the fist instalment in the Letters in Blood trilogy and must be read first before reading book 2. The cliffhanger and book hangover, totally worth it with that epic ending. A must read trilogy!
