Ruby Santos knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she signed up to write a soldier overseas. The guidelines were simple: one letter or email a week for the length of his or her deployment. Care packages were optional.Been there, done that. She thought she knew what to expect. What she didn’t count on was falling in love with the guy.
This made my heart happy to read. This is such a great story of friendship built through letters and email. Aaron and Ruby have fantastic humor chemistry. I love how when we finally get to meet Ruby we got to see how she was different than her email character, but still herself — we get to see the evidence of how both in-person and online is honest, but different.
Zapata excels at “showing” versus “telling”, which is one of there reasons I keep rereading her stories. It was great to see how they both had such strong reactions to each other when they finally met just through descriptions of body language.
A satisfying and complete book, but I love them and Ruby’s family so much I just want more for the sake of not ending my relationship with these people yet.
Beautiful love story-one of her best books! And Loved it on audio as well!
I really enjoy Mariana Zapatas books and Dear Aaron was not the exception.
The story of Aaron and Ruby..
Ruby love sewing, and made that as a living, she made new costumes for skaters, as well as for her sister Jasmine.. she also sew wedding dresses and was in a program to write an overseas soldier a handsome soldier she didn’t know her new pen pal was about to change her life forever..
Aaron was in the military in a mission with his teammates.. life was hard when you where a soldier and it was no different for Aaron he wanted to end his mission soon so he could finally take some rest.. but he didn’t know his days were about to change, when those letters started to arrive.. the letters, the ones that keep him smiling and wanting so much more..
Love Aaron and Ruby!!
Ruby was a great heroine, she was funny, sometimes introverted, sometimes shy and definitely a major weeper lol just like me .. she was sensitive and a really lovable character.. but also life hasn’t been easy on her specially on the men and love department..
Aaron an amazing gentleman, always respectful and kind but at the same time he was hot as hell and rough in some ways.. love how protective he was also and care so much for Ruby..
Get ready to laugh a lot with these two!!
Mariana Zapata is one of my favorite writers. So when her book ‘Dear Aaron ‘ came out I couldn’t wait to read it. But I must confess that this book left me with mixed feelings and confused thoughts. Because although I liked the theme and part of the story, there was also a part that I didn’t enjoy that much. Maybe my expectations were too high after loving all her others book so much?! I don’t know.
Sometimes doing something small can make a big difference to someone else. For example, sending a letter (or an email) can seem like a small thing but to someone far away from home, it can be a great gift and comfort. So that’s why Ruby Santos, a young American woman, decides to sign up to write to an American soldier overseas. Aaron isn’t her first soldier overseas that she writes to but he will become her favorite one in the end.
‘Letter’ after ‘letter’ are being send between Aaron and Ruby. The more they write the more they get to know each other and the more they become friends and also each other comfort in difficult times. But when Aaron comes back home to America, their contact changes to phone calls and then Aaron wants to meet Ruby in ‘real’ life. He invites her to go on a holiday with him and his friends. Something that scares Ruby very much because slowly but surely she felt in love with Aaron, a person that she has never seen before. So when the time is there to meet, Ruby is very nervous. Aaron is totally different then she thought but in some way he is just the same too.
During their time together Aaron and Ruby get to know each other more and more and Ruby is falling deeper and deeper for Aaron. Slowly but surely their holiday is coming to an end and they will have to decide, will their future correspondence be that of friends or lovers?
So the story started with them sending letters to each other, it was so for more of 1/3 of the book. I liked that and just when I wanted more, the writer gave me that. Like all of Mariana Zapata’s books, this story was also a slow burner, this time it was a really slow, slow burner. So when they finally met, after a really long time of corresponding, the suspense was built up very high, maybe a little too high?
For this book I would have really liked both POV’s. I really missed the POV of Aaron. I think it would have given the story some more dept. Because there were times you could really feel that there was a lot going on with Aaron and I really wanted to go inside his head!!
And although I really loved Ruby in the first part of the book (her humor, her stories about her ‘crazy’ family), from the moment Aaron and Ruby met she became more and more insecure, so insecure that I had a little trouble with it.
The story had great potential but in the end I was personally a little disappointed by it. But I still look forward to Mariana Zapata her next book!
Not your typical romance with more smut than love, this is sweet, slow love story that begins with a girl writing to a soldier in the deserts of Iraq. A friendship grows as they get to know one another, and continues when he comes home. I love how real the characters are, and how they each have real feelings and misgivings. I love how each have real world problems that anyone can relate to. I also love how real the feelings of Aaron are about what he is going through during his deployment, without being too detailed about technical things. It really makes you think about the plight of our guys in uniform. This story is definitely one that warrants a reread, and is likely to become one of my favorites.
5th book read by this author.
I’ve read 4 previous books by this author, so was interested how this one would go…the first third was emails and text messages…it was different but I enjoyed seeing these two people, Aaron and ruby, get to know each other.
Subtle and sweet and slow burning, gloriously written. What an absolutely fantastic book. I adore that there is always an epilogue
Super adorable and wonderful characters.
