Isabella Booth was tired of all the sexist crap handed to her on a daily basis. When her father wouldn’t even consider her as an heir to his lawn care business because she wasn’t a man, and left it to her brother Hunter instead, she had done the next logical thing. She opened her own lawn care business, and it thrived.Dean Marshall was … She opened her own lawn care business, and it thrived.
Dean Marshall was renovating his family home. As far as the landscaping was concerned, he was told to go big or go home. When Shep invited the owner of the landscaping company to his home for dinner, Dean wanted to be there to see about getting some things done for his place. He didn’t mean for his jaguar to knock the woman to the ground.
Bella was thoroughly pissed when the big cat ruined her jeans and favorite shoes, and when he announced that they were mates, Bella was seeing red. No way, no how, was she having another sexist, overbearing man in her life. Not if she could help it….

Kathi S. Barton has shown the worst of human nature in Hunter Booth, Isabella’s brother, and the best in Dean Marshall and his family. Once again she gives a member of the Marshall Shadow in Dean. He and his mate, Isabella, meet when she arrives at Harris and Shep’s house for dinner to discuss their landscaping needs and those of the rest of the shadow. That’s when this adventure actually starts when Bella is quite literally knocked off her feet, not once but twice, by Dean. I’ve chuckled and laughed at some of the antics, shivered and gotten angry by the evil displayed, and cried tears of not just sadness but the happiness and joy that is shared. This one is deep and only promises to continue with ‘Oakley’ in the next book. I can’t wait.
. Another fantastic read from one of my favorite authors.
Loved Dean and Bella’s story
Isabella, Bella, Booth, started her own landscaping business as a young teen. Her father thought she would join his landscaping business when she got older. When it was clear that her father would never see or respect her as a intelligent and capable business women, she built her company. Through her brother’s miss management she now owns her father’s. They have been estranged for years.
Dean unexpectedly meets his mate when he crashes inter as his car outside his brothers house. Bella is not happy, and refuses to be with an man who doesn’t respect her for who she is.
Bella learns that her older brother has been manipulating her and her father for some time. They reconnect over dinner with the Marshall family. An violent episode shows her her father is not well.
Hunter is a narcissistic sociopath. He wants his sister’s business and the insurance policy pay puts when she and his father are dead. Harris is not going to let anything happen to her new sister or her father.
Great Story. Loved Dean and Bella. The Marshall family welcomes a new addition. A great set up for Oakley’s story.
Isabella Booth has made herself a very rich and successful woman. However, it was all on her own with no help from her father or brother. As a teenager she took up to mowing and landscaping lawns to help earn some money for the things she would need, and now as an adult has built a successful lawn care business that is even better than her father’s business. In her eyes her father could care less about what she’s doing with life and honestly believes she shouldn’t be the face of business, hence why he made Hunter (her brother) the heir to his company.
Dean Marshall figured it would only be a matter of time before he met his mate, so working to get his house in working order was at the top of Dean’s list. Going over to Shep’s house to maybe learn some tips or techniques to get his landscaping on point, he never expected the owner of the landscaping company would be his mate. However, Dean has some issues to help Bella overcome especially in regards to how men treat her.
**”Oh. You’re happy. I guess after our start with me knocking you around a little, it didn’t occure to me that I’d finally done something right.”**
But there’s also more to the relationship between Isabella, Hunter, and their father. Soon information comes out that shows Bella how she and her father were played against each other by Hunter, and just how far he would go to get what he wants…including killing anyone that stood in his way.
Dean is the second book in the Marshall’s Shadow series. I absolutely loved Dean. He had no problems letting Bella be the breadwinner in their relationship. If anything he was ecstatic to be a house daddy. I love that he was so comfortable in himself that he had no problems with this.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**
