I was surprised by this book with it’s unusual heroine.
“Dealing With the Viscount” (nook version) was a delightful story. I definitely enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more of Clair Brett. I wish I would have had the option of rating this book as 4-1/2 stars rather than just 4 stars. The reason I deducted 1/2 star is I was distracted by several punctuation and grammatical errors throughout the story. The story plot was terrific.
This book either gave too much information or not enough. Maybe it should have started when they first met, married and then she disappeared. Granted once Devon reaches Scotland the story moves at a nice pace. Building trust between them is not easy, but Ella went way off base later in the book. I was very disappointed that after everything Devon had already done for her, she still did not trust him. Lack of communication? A nice novella for a second chance romance and I’m not discouraged enough to not read her other books, especially AN HEIRESS BY MIDNIGHT. Clive is one of my favorite characters from this book. WHERE IS THE EPILOGUE?
This novella in included in the anthology ROMANCING THE PAST.
I suppose one could call this novel “different”, as it certainly was not what I expected. Viscount Devon Renwick had a brief marriage to Ella, and then as originally planned, she disappeared. He thought she had found her way to Scotland until her remains are delivered to him in a coffin. Years later an interfering friend demands that he journey to Scotland, where he discovers that not only is his wife alive, but that he has a child as well. What he still had to find out was that his wife is being blackmailed and is in danger. I found this novel disjointed and the modern language jarred on my senses, making it difficult to get my head around the plot at times. Fortunately, the book does come to a successful conclusion and the faithful Devon wins the day.
3.5* Editing Issues.
Some bits of this story were really good but sometimes I was left confused by holes in the plot. Also found the typos distracting.
I find this to be a good historical regency book to read. The writer takes her readers on a romance ride through Scotland. Husband and wife Devon and Ella try to find their love for one another again as they face dangerous issues that come to haunt them from their past. The writer choice of plot I find very interesting. She grips her readers from beginning to end. I look for more writing from this author. I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.
Dealing With The Viscount, Improper Wives for Proper Lords book 1: Viscount Devon Renwick did not expect to discover his estranged wife in Scotland. He thought she was dead. He had not want a wife or family, but in the four years since her death, everything had changed, including his heart. He vows to claim his wife, Ella, and never let her go again. Ella held up her end of the bargain with Viscount Devon and never expected to see him again. She did not even tell him she carried his baby. A chance encounter between them changes Ella’s fate and Devon refuses to allow her to retreat. She does not want to risk her heart a second time, but the threat of blackmail forces her into his arms. Their spark if passion becomes a flame, but nothing is ever easy. If they can withstand the fire surrounding their marriage, perhaps they will claim the love they almost lost. – The book would have been much better if the marriage and Ella’s departure had been part of the book. As it is, I felt that I missed a lot. I enjoyed Devon’s seduction of Ella, the escapades that Devon and his duke friend encountered, and the times with the 3-year-old child, Maddie. Otherwise, the book drug and was a disappointment.
You know how it will end before you’ve finished the first page. But it’s an easy way to help time pass while in virus lockdown.
A much-needed escape right now!
Easy to read romantic fiction, lords and ladies
Bob it was a good book to read! Good plot, some steamy sexy moments, plus some rather different twist to the book. I would recommend this book!
Fast reading because there were many pages of steamy sex that I skipped over.
A really nice story
Some grammatical errors were a little distracting, but the story was generally decent for light, rather mindless reading.
Heroine did not have enough faith! Drove me crazy that she couldn’t commit. I am sure that that was the author’s intent. However, I loved the story line and the characters. Great concept!
I enjoyed it
Glad someone got their dream.
Great story line….original
Loved the characters
Captivating story line with wonderful characters!
Steamy, entertaining and heartfelt throughout!
From beginning to end, this book held my attention, with wanting more! I only wish there were an Epilogue at the end.
This was a very different story than I am used to reading but I was not putting it down until I had finished reading. Ella Bowen-Thorn Renwick and Devon Viscount Renwick’s story has some very good twists and turns. Those where two very sick men I am glad they got what they deserved. This is a new Author for me and I know I want to read more of her books. I recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
