A YA urban spin on Beauty and the Beast that will have you coming back for more.
Such an adoring read! I loved the whole dynamics, from the family set up and love for each other, to Morik and his awkwardness, and even Tessa and her fearlessness. This novel reminded me a lot of Hopeless, another one of the author’s other novels. The main characters “played house” as in slept in each other’s beds a lot and went through the daily motions of life all while being cute with each other. And Morik was kind of silent like Clay. So pretty much exactly like Hopeless only with demons. But that’s okay because I loved the characters. Even Beatriz and her brother.
I highly recommend this read. It’s clean too! (I really wanted some more steam, but alas, this is YA.
Haag out performs consistantly. Her use of a demon universe straining to attach itself to ours gives you pause and then upends whatever preconceptions you may have.
Made me rethink “otherness”.
Demon meets blonde and falls in love! Actually not right away but it sure blossoms beautiful! Must read!
This is one of my favorite books from Melissa Haag. I’ve re-read this so many times, I’m glad I have digital, a paperback would be worn out! Even though this is a YA book, adults will also enjoy (I’m 54). I have all of Melissa Haag’s books so far, really enjoy her stories (she also writes adult books under- MJ Haag -also awesome books). Melissa Haag is the only author that I have ALL of the books she’s published so far. She can get you so involved with her writing, you can’t put her books down, & you feel all the character’s emotions! I can’t prais this author enough, well worth the money!!!!
I love this book so much! Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down! I love Tessa and Morik! Their interactions and the way they fell in love is realistic and so beautiful. I’m fascinated with the story, and it reminded me of Beauty and the Beast for some reason. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a stand a sweet story.
I enjoyed this book. The characters were very likeable.
Love the story, to break a family curse with a love story behind it, great read
I didn’t love how Melissa Haag’s Judgement series ended up turning out (I really liked them until the last book) so I was hesitant to read a story from her again. However, I took a chance on this book and I’m so glad I did! I really loved the story, and it ended well. I would love an epilogue to this! Highly recommend!
This was my first time reading anything by Melissa Haag, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Mystery. Suspense. Romance. All wrapped up in a paranormal package with demons. What’s not to love?
It was an intriguing tale that gripped me from the first page.
Tessa knows her family is far from what most would consider normal, although she doesn’t understand why she must abide by special rules. Like being home before nightfall. When she meets the being called Morik, she’s scared and reluctant to trust him. But he knows far more about her family than anyone else, and she’s ready to end the nightmarish cycle that’s befallen her family — cursed to lose the men they love at an early age. The question is WHY does it happen? Only Morik can answer that for her.
Watching the two of them learn about one another, grow closer as friends, and then as something more, kept me engaged and eager to flip the next page. Their relationship was a slow build, and I started to wonder if Tessa would ever realize she was in love with the demon. The more we got to know Morik, the more I wanted a hunky demon of my own.
The only downside to this story is that it’s a stand-alone, which means we don’t get to find out what happens with the other demons in the book. I hope one day Ms. Haag might sit down and write about the other two. I’d love to know more.
Started great but stalled and became very tedious
I really enjoyed this book and was sad to reach the end. Even though the storyline is Supernatural, you can still relate to the characters. You sense the female protagonist’s incredulity, frustration, angst, and acceptance. You feel what it’s like to be young and in love again. You can’t help but love a demon when he’s written about so chivalrously. A great read! I would love to see a sequel!
This title was formerly known as Touch and is such a sadly sweet story. Tessa is condemned to choices that she doesn’t want to make and then Morik comes along and helps to open up her life to other possibilities. Giving her a chance to actually live her life, but at what cost?
Melissa gives us a new story about love and sacrifice. Before I started reading this book I was a little skeptical about a “demon” as a main character, but I fell in love with Morik and you will too. She also expanded the original version with some longer scenes and extra from Morik. This has become one of my favorite books, but I still hold out hope that a sequel may still come in the future.
