“I’m a virgin. And you need to relieve me of that.” What respectable guy could say no to that? Yeah, she was my best friend. But she was also the hottest chick I’d ever known. I thought it would be simple. I thought we’d have a good time, then pretend like it never happened. It turns out, I was an idiot. Now, she wants nothing to do with me, but I’m determined. I’ve spent the last five years … but I’m determined. I’ve spent the last five years without her and I refuse to waste another day. I have a solid plan. All of my figurative ducks are in a row. I’m going balls to the wall, and I’m not stopping until I win back the only girl I’ve ever loved.
Too bad for me, Devyn Summers was sitting on a secret that nothing could’ve prepared me for.
*Deal Breakers is filled with lots of laughs, a sexy romance, and an overflowing swear jar. It’s the first installment in the Dealing With Love series, but each one can be read as a standalone.

The thing I really liked about this book was the friendship Riley & Devyn had before they became something more. After that I started to really not like Riley. He was your typical young guy who was afraid of commitment & turned into a total Douchebag.
I liked that Devyn didn’t immediately fall into Riley’s arms especially after he treated her so poorly in the past. She did cave faster than I would have for sure. But they were perfect for each other in the end. Their former friendship plus the attraction made them really well suited for each other.
This is the 1st in a new series and is Riley and Devyn’s story. These two become best friends in college, and just before graduation Devyn ask Riley for a favour, which has them striking a deal that they will remain friends afterwards. When Devyn expresses her feelings to be more that friends Riley runs leaving her heartbroken. Now 5-years later Riley moves into Devyn’s hometown ready to redeem himself and get his girl back, only to finds out that a huge secret has been kept from him and she has a boyfriend. This is a well written story which is sweet, entertaining, humorous, and steamy. I was hooked and intrigued throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
Devyn and Riley meet at college just before their freshman year starts. Riley is your typical single freshman and sees fresh meat when he sees Devyn so he makes his move. But when they start talking Devyn friend zones him and Riley finds that his disappointment is minimal because he would much rather have her around forever than just for one night. Four + years later, just as they are graduating from college Devyn drops a bomb on Riley and asks for him to take her virginity because there is no one that she trusts more. They share a night together that makes them both realize that maybe they are more than just best friends. But Riley panics and walks away. Six weeks later Devyn finds that she was left with more than just beautifully painful memories. Five years later Riley realizes that he was the biggest dummy ever and will stop at nothing to win back Devyn.
We all know that secret/surprise baby tropes are my jam and this one did not disappoint at all. I loved the progression and pacing of this one. I loved that we got to see bits of their story through their college years, then their epic “date night” and then when it came to the reunion – it was perfect IMO. While I wished that Riley had pulled his head out his butt sooner, I loved the way that their story played out. I loved all of the things with this book especially the immediate bond and relationship that Riley and Nathan formed. It was pretty heart melting. This was my first book by this author but I can guarantee it won’t be my last. I truly adored every single thing about this book.
I fell in love with Laura Lee’s writing when I found the Windsor Academy series and I fell even more in love with her words while reading Deal Breakers. There is a vast difference between bully romance and the sweet heartfelt story in the second-chance, friends to lovers story in Deal Breakers yet Laura Lee does a fantastic job of weaving together stories that grab your attention and steal your heart.
Devyn and Riley had an adorable meet cute then they were quickly placed in “the friend zone”. The chemistry between Devyn and Riley was clear the moment they met and with each glimpse of their friendship over the years it continuously grew stronger. They made a deal, one night and that one night made the chemistry explode between them.
I adored Devyn and Riley from the very beginning. The easy way they became friends and the banter they shared made me giggle. Riley was sweet but he also had some alpha tendencies that mostly showed when he finally realized he was up to the challenge of a second-chance with Devyn.
I’m was already looking forward to reading more of this series since many of the secondary characters enhanced my enjoyment of Deal Breakers then I read the sneak peek of Deal Takers that made me laugh out loud and made me want to start it right now.
Deal Breakers had me laughing out loud with Devyn and Riley’s story. Devyn and Riley are best friends. Devyn quickly friend zoned Riley and then things get a little complicated when she asks for a pretty big favor, to help her get rid of her v-card!! One amazing night and five years later leaves one of them with more than just a memory and the other fighting to win the other back. Their is sweet, funny and swoon worthy.
So I actually did the Audio Version of this book, and I really enjoyed it. This is my first book from Laura Lee and I want to continue with this series. Deal Breaker’s is a mix of a few troupes, which didn’t bother me and I found the characters really likeable. There are elements of first love, second chance romance, secret baby and friends to lovers.
Devyn is the heroine, the book begins with our leads in college. Her best best friend is Hero Riley who when they first meet he makes a play for her but she friend zones him. 4 years later they are best friends; but Devyn asks Riley to take her Virginity before she leaves college knowing she trusts him and there will be no feelings beyond their friendship. The next day Riley disappears and they don’t speak for 5 years. That night changes every thing though when Devyn falls pregnant with Riley’s son Nathan and cannot track him down to tell him.
5 years on and their paths cross again and thus starts a turbulent relationship of enemies, friends and lovers. We also get to meet some great secondary characters in Rainey, Drew, Brodie and Nathan. Deal Breakers was a sweet romance with an angsty edge and a good bite of humour. I like that Devyn and Riley’s relationship held a lot of animosity after them being so close years earlier. The reason I adore second chance romances is bringing the issues to the forefront and seeing how the characters process them and move on. I think Laura balanced the story well and kept up the pace, the characters were endearing and I want to read more in this world.
I love how this book took a different take on second chance. Friends for years, and then at the end of college Devyn decides to tell Riley she wants him to take her V-card from her. Riley who’s crushed on Devyn for four years says yes. Add in a very special night and then an awkward confession. Then years pass and after a random meeting their life gets complicated. This book has tons of humor to offset some of the more melancholy parts. It was a great read all in all.
Fantastic Story & Audible Listen A Heartfelt RomCom!
Deal Breakers (Dealing With Love, Book 1)
A Second Chance Romantic Comedy
By: Laura Lee
Narrated by: Reagan West
This is a great second chance romance, it is well written with interesting storylines that grabbed my attention right from the start and held it straight to the end. The characters are likable and easy to relate to. Devyn Summers and Riley McIntrye are freshman in the University of Oregon, Devyn catches Riley’s eye and he is determined to have her. I loved the way he manipulated their first meet. The two hit is off but Riley is not looking to date or get romantically involved. So they become really good friends throughout college. Just before graduation Devyn decides she wants to lose her virginity and she ask Riley to be the one. I loved how that played out, Riley the real romantic, who knew. Devyn was setting off to start an internship and Riley was heading east to Grad school, so their romantic interlude would not change things right? Wrong!! Devyn realized she has deep feelings for Riley but Riley freaks out and runs. They go off and live their lives, the story fast forwards to when Riley realizes he made a huge mistake not telling Devyn how he really feels, he is determined to win her back. So he moves back west with a plan. I loved how everything plays out in this book, it is plotted out nicely and there is never a dull moment. There is plenty of drama, some great humor and laughs, some heartfelt moments and some hot romance. There are some great secondary characters in this book too and I am looking forward to their stories as well. Laura Lee, thank you for this fantastic story, the laughs and the emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Reagan West is a talented narrator and voice artist. She does an awesome job portraying the characters and bringing them to life, giving each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart she puts into her work as she captures the characters emotions and projects them into her performance. She landed all the humor perfectly too, never missing a beat. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen
Deal Breakers (Dealing With Love, Book 1)
A Second Chance Romantic Comedy
By: Laura Lee
Narrated by: Reagan West
Devyn and Riley meet their freshman year in college and are instant best friends. Now senior year comes, Devyn asks Riley to take her virginity. And their story really begins. Laura Lee has written a love story that grabbed me and kept me interested. Not your typical best friends to lovers story, we are taken into their lives and get to see over the years the benefits and consequences of their decisions. It captivated me, had me full of compassion for both and loved the outcome. It’s fun, flirty and the had me laughing out loud at some of the word choices!!! Meeting a variety of people in their lives from brothers to school friends to Nathan, it’s a entertainment at it’s finest.
Reagan West always gives a wonderful performance and this one is no exception. She fit into the new adult genre with ease, and transformed from parents to young children in an instant. I loved it!

Great love story. Loved the little boy. This kept me interested until the end. Read it in a day.
Deal Breakers is book one in the Dealing with Love series. While each book can be read as a standalone, it is nice to see the secondary characters background. This is a friend to lover story with a surprise for one of the characters. Devyn and Riley were college friends though Riley wanted more from her, she friend zoned him until Devyn made a Deal with Riley to Break her free of the cherry pop. Oh my, Riley sure has his hands full years later to show her that he means business this time around. The surprise is a bonus I will say, but nothing tops that swear jar. Too funny as is the character. Let’s make a Deal isn’t always fun and games, but in the end even if you win a little bit it’s not a Breaker. I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to the other books in the series.
First time reading a book from this author and also reading a book without any reviews. I have no regrets at all! This book had all the emotions and I finished it in a day!
I was hooked from the beginning!!! This book had it all! Romance, love, HEA, etc.
Very interesting read of how to lose your virginity. I was enthralled from the very beginning. Could this happen? I for one was never given the chance to be with a virgin. This book gave me the chance to experience what it might have been like.
Friends to more is one of my favorite tropes and this is so well done. <3
This is one of those easy to read romance books…I enjoyed it, and I recommend it1
Sweet story
I enjoyed it. Good story!
I didn’t know what to expect with this book and I loved it so much that I bought the entire series!! Loved that the characters were woven into all 3 books. Great storylines and characters. My only negative was the sex was very graphic-I could have done with a bit less detail. But overall great storyline!!
