Humans weren’t meant to live underground, but then artificial intelligences weren’t meant to feed on souls. Shit happens. They say being a Potential is an honour. I say it’s a death sentence waiting to happen. It means the possibility of being picked to be a Guardian. It means leaving the safety of the Hive, and only a fool would willingly do that.Turns out I’m surrounded by foolsTurns out I’m … a fool would willingly do that.
Turns out I’m surrounded by fools
Turns out I’m supposed to be one of them.
Monsters roam topside. Metal beasts that power themselves on human souls, and I don’t intend to end up as battery juice.
Being a hero means nothing if you’re too dead to enjoy it.
Better to stay safe in the Hive and hangout with my wolf-shifter co-worker or spend time with my enigmatic nephilim mentor. Heck, I’d rather be doing anything else then going topside. But I’ve made a promise to my best friend, a promise to get her to the finish line in time to win a spot as Guardian.
How hard can it be, right?
We have a plan.
So why do I feel as if something is about to go seriously wrong?
It’s a game. Just a game.
Or is it?
A Post-Apocalyptic Urban fantasy world with a slow burn Whychoose Romance.
(Deadworld is set a century after the events of Chronicles of Midnight and Chronicles of Arcana, and there may or may not be some familiar characters parading around. However, you don’t have to have read the previous series to enjoy it.)

I don’t think Debbie Cassidy can write a bad book. This was just as amazing as all of her books I have read. It really is scary thinking about AI turning on us and this book played right into that fear oh so well. Of course when everything goes to hell that is when true heroes rise up and what a hero Echo is. She is smart, sassy and has a heart of gold. The guys in this story are also really interesting as well. Deacon is in the lead with me so far! We also got to see Wila again and she has always been a favorite of mine! I cannot wait to read the entire series!
A magical PG15 post-apocalypse adventure that can be read in a day. I read an Advance Reader Copy and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
I loved everything about this book and just couldn’t put it down, fantastically written with stunning and captivating characters. A must read for so many reasons. I am sure you will love this book as much as I did as it really is Debbie Cassidy at her best!!!!
First came Chronicles of Midnight which is still one of my favourite set of books by Debbie, then came Chronicles of Arcana which again was a fantastic set of books, and now we have Chronicles of Deadworld which is going to be Epic.
A hundred years have passed since so Deadworld is set in the future where the veil between worlds has collapsed and the world has gone to shit. Creating a new Post-Apocalyptic world with a stunning kick ass Heroine who (in the words of Serenity) becomes Fates Bitch. Although there are some crossover characters this is a completely new scenario introducing Willa and Azrens Son plus one of Serenity’s son’s – whose father I think will become apparent in later books, but I have my suspicions based on one tiny snippet and it isn’t who you would initially think. Debbie is very good at this i.e. leading you down one path and then Wham sideswiping you with a different reality. This is a slow burn RH where the fist book is full of action and sets out who Echo’s potential significant men may be so there is also a little heat which will hopefully be ramped up in book two. A wonderful Urban Fantasy with brilliant storey telling, world building and cast creation.
Its definitely a book that once you start reading you won’t be able to put down and when you have finished you are left seriously wanting more and hating having to wait which in my opinion is the mark or a very good book.
WOW!!
This is fantastic. The author does what author’s don’t do, she continued the story. In previous series, the good guy beats up the bad guy, now the author tells what happens after the good guys ride off into the sunset. She tells how the world is broken, how they tried to patch it up and now how the bandaide has to ripped off to kill the infection that still oozes Love how the author sprinkles in characters from the previous world showing how everything all evolves and forms. Though Bane could have had more than a cameo, just saying.
Debbie Cassidy will astound you yet again with her masterfully written words in her bold new series, Chronicles of Deadworld.
This new world emerges in a post-apocalyptic setting 100 years into the future after the earth is decimated by the wars and life is forced underground. Only the chosen few known as Guardians brave the ground above scouting, harvesting crops and fighting Genesis, the artificial intelligence that has taken over, leaving death and destruction in its’ wake, to keep those who have survived below safe.
Branded at birth, because of her bloodline, Echo has known from childhood that she will be one of the few ‘potentials’ chosen to compete for the honor of becoming a Guardian, following in her father’s footsteps. A destiny she has no desire to claim. She desperately wants to stay in the Hive, her haven, in safety away from the metal monsters and AI that now roam the earth. She wants to cling to the normalcy of her family and friends and the job she loves and let the rest slip away. But fate has a way of being a constant presence that will not be ignored and Echo is about to find out exactly what that means and what she is made of.
“One thing I’ve learned from being fate’s bitch is to never take no for an answer and be prepared to slap fate in the face whenever you get a chance. She likes it rough.”
Chronicles of Midnight and Chronicles of Arcana both set the background foundation for this new series. You do not have to read either of these in order to enjoy this new world; however, the children of the heroes/heroines in those series are the new generation of heroes/heroines in this one. And heck, why would you not? They are both fantastic in their own right and they will give you the added background for history. I love when authors toss in tidbits showing connections to other stories.
Deadworld is setting the stage showing Echo as a strong young woman with buried fears of the unknown, the burden of family obligations and responsibilities, who is struggling to find her place in the world and do what is right for herself, her family and the Hive. Her journey will be a long road full of challenges, despair, joy and triumph (and let us not forget the romance) as she discovers what she is truly capable of. It is going to be a wonderful adventure watching her mature, grow more confident and take her rightful place. This story will be a reverse harem and we get to meet some potential love interests who already have an invested interest in her. It is going to be fun to see how things progress for Echo and these men as they each learn their place in this new world.
