Charming Calhoun heads to Witches Forge, in the beautiful Smoky Mountains, because her employee has gone missing. She received a voice mail from him and when she checked it, found out that it had been sent two days prior, and now he’s not answering his phone.
Charming’s not your average employer. She’s a witch (with very little power) who’s combined her powers with math and is the preeminent supernatural match maker. She’d sent Jimmy to Witches Forge after a plea from the Mayor. You see, Witches Forge is in serious trouble. Magic there has backfired, spells go awry daily, tourism’s gone, and the kudzu is growing like wildfire and it has a nasty bite.
With Jimmy missing, Charming heads to Witches Forge to find him and help with the matchmaking. When she meets the first couple that’s been matched, she finds out that really, they aren’t a match. There’s something else going on and Charming needs to find out why on paper the witches show up as soul mates, but when she meets them, she discovers who their true mates really are. So now, she’s looking for Jimmy, and trying to match up people with their actual mates, which is impossible because of a very old law that says witches must marry their own. Fire witch with Fire witch, Earth witch with Earth witch, you get the picture. But the craziness doesn’t end there! She finds out that the town’s cop is actually a vampire (a witch’s mortal enemy) and boy is he a hottie.
As if this isn’t enough to make Charming go crazy, her world famous mother shows up to assist, as well as her aunt. They’re staying in a magical house that can change or add a room as needed, it will also cough up information, if you ask the right questions.
I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful story. Charming’s a sassy character with a mouth on her. She has to deal with her over the top mother and somewhat crazy aunt, the hot vampire, his minions, the hot for marriage witch desperately seeking her soul mate, a wild pig, and more. Oh and at the same time, solve the mystery of her missing employee, figure out why the matches aren’t matching, help the dying magical town, and figure out what creature is now committing murder. I became invested in the story and characters, laughed out loud a few times, and now can’t wait for the next book in the series!!
A good paranormal mystery series starter
Charming Calhoun arrives in Witch’s Forge to find her missing employee. Jimmy was supposed to matchmake witches and warlocks in this town where magic is broken but something happened and he disappeared instead. Charming has a bad feeling and to make everything worse – the chief of police is a vampire! She hates vampires!
This story is well-written and quite enjoyable. There is humor, mystery, and a possibility of romance in the future. I liked the plot and want to read more in this series. Loved Pig and Broom!
