I love legal thrillers and when you combine romance with that, I’m hooked. Deadly Proof is both and I know you will like it. And you have the added benefit of knowing the legal information is accurate, as the author is an attorney. As far as characters go, I especially loved Landon. He’s a swoon-worthy hero for sure. So grab a copy. You won’t be disappointed.
My first Rachel Dylan book! Can’t wait to finish the series!!
The storyline of Deady Proof instantly intrigued me. I found it very interesting to see how the kind of lawsuit presented in the book would play out. I had never really thought about how it would work from both sides of the lawsuit as well as in court. Ms. Dylan did a very good job of cluing me in about that without it feeling like she was just telling me information.
There were several different characters whose viewpoints were presented throughout the book. While I have read some books that did not do this well and ended up being confusing, that was not the case with this book. It was very well done in this book and I really appreciated the opportunity to get inside the mind of more than just one or two of the characters. Having a little time in the minds of the chosen characters, getting to see their thought processes as they encountered different situations, seeing how they decided to take the actions they did and what motivated them made it all the more engaging. Because of this aspect of the book, I was able to better grasp the internal struggles of the characters as they decided how to handle things. For some, decisions that needed to be made were clear to them while, with others, lines were not so clearly drawn in their minds of what they were willing or not willing to do. It was interesting to see how that played into their decision making.
I did struggle a bit with Kate’s character because I did feel she was a little too naive at times, a little too soft. I was glad to see Bonnie’s character there to balance her out a little. I believe that it’s good to be “gentle” at times, but there are other times when more is called for. That aspect of my personality made it a little difficult to relate to Kate at times. I likely would have handled some things a little differently than Kate did if I had been in her position. With that being said, I could still appreciate the fact that Kate stood by her methods and her way of living even when others pushed her to be different than who she was.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and it’s development. I thought it was a well balanced book with a good amount of suspense, mystery, and romance.
**I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Net Galley and have chosen to review it. All opinions are my own.
Legal Suspense with a Romantic Twist
If you want to read a romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of the seat, this is the book. It kept me turning pages until The End. Great story with a very unexpected turn of events.
This was the first book I have read by Rachel Dylan, and my goodness, what an action packed, faith filled story! Great blend of legal suspense, interesting characters, and slow build, sweet romance. This story offered everything I enjoy in Christian suspense fiction, and this author is on my favorites radar.
Deadly Proof is Rachel Dylan’s suspesnefu firstl book in her Atlanta Justice series. This installment is about an idealistic litigator who is fighting for justice for victims of a large pharmaceutical firm that might have not been as careful as they should have, with a new drug. I won’t reveal any more about the plot, but I found the characters to be both authentic and well-formed. I was emotionally invested in this trial, even though my own experience has been in Superior Court and Juvenile Court (as a Victim Advocate), rather than civil trials. With lawsuits against flu vaccines because of suspected links to Guillain-Barre Syndrome in some cases, and other drugs taken off the market because of hazardous side effects, this story could have come from today’s news. With Dylan’s own experience as an Atlanta lawyer, she is familiar with the way things work in this court system. I look forward to reading future installments in this series.
It’s so awesome to read a real thriller that’s also Christian-based! Well done!
Good story line but a little predictable.
I loved this story. Action packed and full of suspense.
As an attorney I really enjoyed the explanation of legal process simply written by an author who was able to keep it simple plus entertaining. A fun read with a story that moved along at a great pace!
Love it! Hard to put down
Deadly Proof is the first book in Rachel Dylan’s Atlanta Justice series. This legal romantic suspense novel will capture the readers’ attention from the very beginning and keep them eagerly anticipating what will happen next. Rachel Dylan’s descriptive writing makes the readers feel like they are right there in the courtroom as the action is taking place. Readers will fall in love with lawyer Kate Sullivan, private investigator Landon James, and the cast of supporting characters who will be featured in the next books in the series. I really enjoyed the faith of the characters and their spiritual growth throughout the novel. This was the first book I read by Rachel Dylan, but it definitely won’t be the last. I am already starting book 2 in the series. I definitely recommend this book to fans of legal thrillers and romantic suspense. You won’t be disappointed!
i love the characters and how kept me swept up then the pages keep you intrigue and suspense and was surprised as every plot turn ! deadly proof i could re-read over again defiantly a keeper adding too my list of favorite authors ! You won’t be disappointed by this book !
The adventure is packed with surprises. When you don’t know who or what to trust do you keep digging to expose the truth? If you don’t who will. An exciting race to expose the truth, stop the evil plot and find a trusted companion. Thankfully this is the 1st in a series. Need More.
Very good , interesting subject, law suit, unpredictable outcome, not too much romance, just enough.
The book was okay and I finished it but struggled with the stilted and choppy sentences.
Tiresome reading
Great legal thriller with suspense, mystery, courtroom drama, and romance
When your Law office gets a multi-million dollar drug case and you are chosen to be the lead council! Wow! Look out! Danger around every corner, maybe in your office or someone you thought was a good friend.. wonderful twists and turns, attacks, murders and a handsome investigator who decides to be your bodyguard. This one has it all! Had me guessing to the end!
I was gifted a copy and my review is voluntary..
Five stars aren’t enough to show how exciting Rachel Dylan’s new legal thriller is! This is much more exciting than mainstream fiction offers as the protagonist is a Christian with ethics one is hard-pressed to find in today’s business world. The writing style, the breathtaking suspense, and characters whose vivid honesty is refreshing and makes the novel even more appealing.
Kate Sullivan is a partner at the prosecutorial law firm she joined after three years of working as a defense attorney. She believes she is doing what she was meant to, defending the rights of those who don’t otherwise have a voice. She has been named as lead counsel for a huge, multi-firm lawsuit against. MPC – Mason Pharmaceutical Corporation with regards to its migraine drug, Celix, considered the cause for cancerous brain tumors that killed thousands while many more are suffering. It is believed that the pharmaceutical company knew about the deadly side effect before it was released.
Ethan Black is a defense attorney who went to law school with Kate. He recently acquired MPC’s account for the firm he is a partner at and is their attorney for the case. These two friends are now pitted against each other in a lawsuit that is going to call on everything within them to win. Kate is a Christian, and chooses to be honest and upright in her dealings. Not just because she doesn’t want to get into trouble, but because it is who she is.
When Kate meets Ellie Proctor, a senior Research and Development scientist at MPC, the woman is nervous. Very nervous, very paranoid that if she were seen with Kate that the consequences could be dire. She suggests that Kate request copies of testing documents not only for Celix but other drugs by MPC. Two days later, hours before Kate is scheduled to meet her on neutral ground, Ellie is killed in the parking garage of MPC, and the security tapes indicate a probable professional hit. Not a robbery gone bad, but a hit. Thus, Kate prepares for the trial of her life.
Kate is the kind of hero I appreciate. She is intelligent, kind, wise, and hard-working. She is a woman of faith, yet one who has a secret from even her closest friends, one that I empathize with. This reader really wants to appreciate Ethan, as well, but can’t quite get there, especially as the trial prep continues. The PI Kate hires for help on the case, Landon James, is in some ways a mystery man. When it comes to business, however, he goes above and beyond searching out leads and people, including bringing in security experts for her protection.
The plot could be taken from today’s headlines. It is written with skill, weaving in legal definitions and proceedings that readers may not be familiar with. Twists in the novel altered who looked guilty time and again, and this reader began to feel bad for Eric, as lead defense attorney. I did guess what MPC was trying to accomplish, but didn’t know who the real bad guy/ gal might be – and it was a complete surprise who was – and wasn’t – involved! I highly recommend this novel to those who enjoy suspense and legal thrillers with a Christian worldview, or even those who are seeking a “clean read” with a minimal violence.
From a grateful heart: I won a copy of this novel by the author with no obligation to provide a review. This is my honest review.
