It’s all in the state of mind… debilitating flashbacks, and not feeling fit to do her job.
But when the suspicious death of a sixty-eight-year-old woman becomes a murder case, it activates Madison’s sense of duty and compulsion to find justice. What she discovers, though, will shake her faith in humanity and remind her that trusting the wrong person can reap harsh consequences. Madison must reach deep inside to find the strength to keep going. If she doesn’t, the killer will walk free, and she’ll risk losing the two things she holds most dear: her badge and her boyfriend.

deadly ,encounters with bad people..
Loved it
I found it hard to sympathize with characters, esp. heroine who just seemed too self-absorbed.
Entertaining murder mystery

Great from start to finish.
Held my attention
Quite a few twists
Nice read
It was okay but really was page turner because I wanted to get to the end. Not one of her best books as I have read some others that I did like. Sounded more interesting to me than it actually was. Where did this mafia kidnapping thing come in? Was it in a book I did not read. Way too fake to sound real, her short marriage & 2 children, then best friend turned boyfriend??? The enticement of Boudeaux is very interesting & I like his story with his old nanny & her daughter.
I’ve read another book with the lead detective Madison solving crime. The book starts out with a murder of an older woman in a wheelchair outside a hospital….interesting. Then when another woman ends up dead and is related to the first victim, I became really excited to solve the case.
Madison is a great character with many flaws and her partner Terry is well written as are her friends. But the plot gets away from her and so many red herrings are thrown in….and yes I know families can be dysfunctional but this family was not given any depth so I didn’t really care as the process of solving the murder went on. Heck, I felt worse for the homeless guy killed during this case. And all the men and throwing in a strip club and cheating husbands and lovers…way too many. Enjoyed some of her other books much better…get this from a library or friend or read one of her other books.
She had good dialogue and the characters were believeable. The ending was surprising kind of a number of actions causing a murder. Showed different peoples who made bad choices.
Heroine not pĺausibĺe
Great mystery with a surprise ending…
Confusing characters . Phony dialogue. Hard to follow. Typical for this author. Only took it because it was a free. Hoped it would be better than past books. She needs to retire.
