I loved this book, so much angst, hotness, and hilarity. Really intriguing stroyline that was a fast paced page turner. The mystery in this one really kept me guessing, which is not a requirement for me, but it’s a nice bonus. Royce and Marc had some explosive chemistry, the tension prior to them getting together was so delicious. Then after they got together…SO YUMMY!!!
The cameos in this one were some of the most amazing in the whole series. I’m not about some spoilers, but the Clue refrences were so hilarious and that bonding over similar losses (ugh that kinda gives it away a bit, sorry) with the hug…I melted in to a sobbing puddle of emotional goo.
I did get a little frustrated with the end, that particular type of relationship conflict irritates me, and I felt they resolved the issue to easily. It felt like some serious groveling was in order…but oh well.
It was still so great, and really surprising to me how much I loved it because Royce hadn’t really pinged my radar as a character I was very interested in. Highly recommend this, and the whole series. While these could maybe stand alone, to really understand the references and relationships, it’s best to read the series in order.
Marc is a millionaire and after the second attempt on his life goes to Ward Security for help. He hates to admit it but it looks like the one after him could be a family member. Royce is hired to play his boyfriend to help solve the mystery and protect Marc. The play acted soon becomes real but then Royce’s past comes out to tear everything apart. He tells Marc the problem and Marc also has a past… some of his acquisitions aren’t as easily or legally obtained. Marc calls in a friend and they go to get a painting to help both get it in a museum where it belongs and free Royce of his past.
I think this so far is my favorite of the three Ward security books. Though I have loved them all, something about Royce and his past and Marc just mesh and the touch of humor when they bring in Marc’s friend seals the deal. There are so many twists and lots of smoking sex and of course a happy ending.
Again, this is a great book But Kenneth Obi’s narration just adds so much more to the story. I love his evil laughter, the grunts and emotion he puts into the sex scenes and emotions when someone is in danger. Iy just adds so much to an already good book.
Jocelynn Drake and Rinda Elliott can write romantic suspense like no other author I know. They effortlessly weave the danger, suspense, heat and romance to create utter magic. Being introduced to Royce in the first two Ward Security books really had me curious how they would approach his story. He was so closed off. I didn’t see how he would ever open up enough but Marc turned out to be exactly what he needed. After repeated attempts on his life, Marc is forced get help from Rowe. I love visiting each of the characters I fell in love with going back to the Unbreakable Bonds series. The world building of those stories as well as Ward Security series, is one of the best I’ve seen. I love the family aspects of not just blood but of a bond chosen. I already know any book I pick up by these amazing authors will be five star plus reads and this was certainly no different. I can’t wait to dig into the next one!
Romantic suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat with characters who would not seem to be a logical pairing. An art dealer and a bulky bodyguard? Royce didn’t do boyfriends, and even acting as a boyfriend wasn’t an attractive assignment and his gut reaction to the stunning art dealer was a definite problem. Marc, the art dealer, had no qualms that the bodyguard, steely strength in a compact body could protect him from his toxic family member/s, whoever was trying to kill him.
Unexpectedly, the problems come from all sides and the sexual tension adds to the overall suspenseful tone. This story has everything that contributes to an interesting story: The characters are likable although each has his own attitude problem and difficulty truly connection, either because of a lack of trust or fear of loss. The characters connect early in the story. There is a journey – almost like a dance, push and pull. The story has suspense, plenty of suspense, and finally a very satisfying ending.

This series, this ‘family’…it really is a delight to revisit these guys with every new release, I love the world the authors have created and that is the reason I will come back for each new story these authors write. The short, but effective, appearance of Rowe and Noah had me in stitches, even at the most tense moment in the story.
That said, I know I will definitely be in the minority with my review, but so far, Marc and Royce are my least favorite couple in the Ward Security series. *sad face*
Don’t get me wrong, the complex storyline was definitely engaging, but unfortunately, I just didn’t connect with the portrayed personalities of these men. This is simply my opinion, so if you’re a fan of this series, please don’t let it stop you from enjoying this adventure.
