Doris goes to live in Skegness and takes a job as reporter for printed newspaper Skegness Telegraph: this is her new life, in a new town, alone.
But the past, her problems, her ex-husband seem to go after her..
nice mistery story, well structured, good characters and well world building. enjoy!
This was a fun book to read, being a British novel there are quirky characters that are fun additions. The story was good, if you can imagine being invited to your ex-husbands wedding, ACK! There were a lot of twists and turns and it was hard to figure out “Who Done It” Good read.
My first and last time.
Doris Cudlow is a recovering alcoholic who has hit bottom in the job market. She is working for a small town newspaper and living in a bedsit. She drives a wreck of a car (when it runs) and is not quite making ends meet. When she gets an invitation to her ex-husband’s wedding, she goes, only to find herself embroiled in a murder investigation. The story is okay, but characters and events often feel unbelievable and stupid. Clues are blatantly presented, so there was not much challenge to the mystery. If you have time to spare, this book is okay.
Good twists and a surprising ending. Writing style flows well.
I read a lot, and much of what I read is good. But when I opened Deadly Chapel, I was amazed! This book rocks! I was hooked by the first page, completely fell in love with the main character, and I will read every book in this series. Probably more than once. N.C. Lewis is my new favorite author.
By the end of the first chapter you want to grab Doris, the main character and take her out for a drink, because with everything she’s gone through – she needs it! A compelling, witty, and funny cozy mystery that I could not put down.
One of N.C.’s best talents is crafting unforgettable, relate-able characters. Where some books put me to sleep, this book woke me up!
Thank you N.C. Lewis!
A real page turner!!
Main characters are depressing.
I am sorry but I could not take the female lead character. She grated on every nerve I have. She was stupid, unorganized, flighty…… and I finally could not take her so I stopped reading.
I really enjoyed this story. I would read more of the stories.
Kudos to the proofreader for the low amount of errors. The culprit’s identity was unexpected. What is a gleaming? I would find a glossary of British terms helpful at all times. I long wondered what a jumper is. I’ve read many novels located in Britain but I was reading an article when I discovered a jumper is what Americans refer to as a sweater.
The characters were flat, not very exciting. I don’t think that I’ll be looking for the next in the series
Quirky characters and a rather unbelievable starting point. The relationship between the narrator and her ex was hard to believe. Only mildly entertaining.
Cute seaside town in England is where this cozy mystery takes place. It is the first in this series and the first I have read by this author. I hope there is more to come.
Loved the story and the crazy characters. Would love to read another like it by the same author!
An interesting British cozy mystery in a sweet town by the sea. The next in the series might be investing if the price is right. Cheap.
Who wouldn’t want to see the ex-husband’s bride to be disappear at the wedding. Oops! She is found dead and the ex-husband is a suspect. An original who-dun-it with a twist.
Very entertaining story filled with believable characters and a story line that could be straight from the press. Filled with some laugh out loud moments. Highly recommend. Looking forward to the next book. Happy reading.
I didn’t like this book
so unrealistic that I felt I was wasting my time.
