Let me preface this review by saying that I am a huge fan of Catherine Coulter and her FBI Thriller series, with Savich and Sherlock being my favorite FBI duo. That said, “Deadlock” is a very good story overall, but it didn’t quite meet my fervent expectations. The premise was promising, pulling me in right from the very start, but it failed to keep me fully engaged. Hence, it took me longer than usual to finish this latest installment to one of my favorite series. Still, if you are a Savich and Sherlock fan as I am, you will want to give this one a chance. It’s still a very enjoyable story, just not a 5-star read.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest, voluntary review. I have read every book Catherine Coulter has written except for A Brit in the FBI books. Her books are fascinating and superbly written. The characters feel like family after all these books. I love how the books could very well represent actual FBI cases; language, descriptions, verbiage, characterization are all on point like a real FBI case. Savich and Sherlock are my favorites but some of the guys can take your breath away. Enjoy!
Such a fun series and this book added to the team dynamic! I love all the books, but the ones that feature Sherlock, Savich and Sean are my favorite. I mean Sean and Marty are adorable.
There are many moving pieces in this book and the way the story juggles the seemingly different cases, towns and characters is quite creative. A new permanent character is introduced and a few favorites are mentioned. The use of blackmail, running cons, revenge and adultery painted quite the detailed backstory.
The end villains are somewhat predictable, but the route to prove their complicity was entertaining and intricate. Overall this is a great book and a great way to spend time with one of my favorite literary crime fighting couples and family!
Thanks for the chance to read this book and share my opinions.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for my honest opinion.
This book had two main story lines going at once, but it wasn’t that confusing. At times, I had some trouble keeping track of the characters, but the author gave enough information each time a character was mentioned that you can readily remember who they were. The suspense wasn’t particularly “edge-of-the-seat”, but it was enough to make you want to come back to the book to see what unfolded. If you pay close attention, you can know one piece of the puzzle. But it still doesn’t give you the whole solution. I like the way Catherine Coulter brings her books to a close. Toward the end of the book, she tells you how it all ends in little bits at a time. That way you savor the ending and it feels complete. I don’t like it when an author solves a mystery in a couple pages, and it leave you thinking, “But what about . . .”.
Color me happy. I really enjoy all of Catherine Coulters writing and Savich and Sherlock feel like family members as I have been with them since book 1.. These books just meet all my happy points. There is intrigue, suspense, there is mayhem and there are relationships built on respect. How can you not love an FBI big shot who has a sports car, who is married to a women whose intelligence matches or exceeds his own and their ability to make their team a family. The “vicious psychopath in the blurb was true evil, There are two stories running through out this book, or is there. A really enjoyable read, Took me away from all the present miseries in the world. Thank you! Thank you to Catherin Coulter, Gallery Books and NetGalley for the arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own and freely submitted. just screamed true evil.
Well we are back with Savich and Sherlock. We get two cases in this book. Savich happens to be at the right place at the right time. While one case is happening another one falls into Savich’s lap. With time not on their side the team rallies to find out the clues and get answers. I did figure somethings out took awhile but not all and the book still made me think. Which is all part of the fun reading it. You could read this book as a stand alone or read it as part of the series. Either way you will enjoy this book.
