A very solid first in series urban fantasy
This was a really fun read! I really enjoyed the characters as well as seeing some past characters from Ms. Blackstream come into play in this urban fantasy. I was pleasantly surprised at the ending twist and I am really intrigued as to what is in store for our main heroine. I really liked how the author blended fantasy into our modern world as well as why some humans cannot see the non-humanness aspects of this world. I also loved how Baba Yaga is portrayed (even if its a small bit for now) and the pixie Peasblossom. I read a lot of UF and I am glad to see an original POV. Sigh, now to wait for book two.
Received ARC for review.
Solid 3.5 for book 1 in a long-lasting series! The book is an easy read but still introduces the world and characters while solving a theft/ murder mystery. Often listed as free on Amazon!
I wouldn’t mind reading the next one. She’s kind of bumbling, but that can be ironed out. The world is interesting. The walking orgasm was a nice touch, in the fact that he wasn’t her boss. I like the possibilities. It’s not as well researched or done as Kate Daniels but I’d put it on par with early Anita Blake.
It was a difficult book to put down. I find alternate realities fascinating especially when it includes magic, vampires, fairies, pixies and witches. Mother Renard not only survives but solves the theft in the end.
Loved the characters lots of surprises can’t wait to read the next book Monster
love the spin on an old genre
A very refreshing read. Great, fully developed characters, great story with no plot holes, mix of funny and serious, it was truly enjoyable. I absolutely loved the familiar, Peasblossom. She gave a comic relief in serious situations. I look forward to reading more from the series.
A cool take on magic and witchcraft. Not a bad read.
I’ve read a lot of paranormal books but this one was refreshingly out of the box. It had great twists and turns and kept me guessing.
I would read another about Shade & her adventures.
I like the characters, cant wait to see were this goes
Deadline is the first in a urban fantasy detective series in the same veins of the Iron Druid chronicles and Dresden Files.
I’ve really enjoyed the series so far, and I’m looking forward to finding out what Shade’s big power is.
Great series! Definitely recommend.
I want the whole series and can’t wait till it’s finished.
I realy like the characters. The main character is strong and consistent, and the supporting characters have just enough distinct traits to be unique without being exaggerated.
The story is original and well planned. I didn’t notice any inconsistencies with the other series I’d read in the same universe.
Five and a half stars.
When you choose to step up from being your friendly neighborhood witch to a private investigator things are going to get rough!
Especially when you are hired by vampire.
This series starter got better and better. The Who-Done-It was layered and brought the reader smoothly into a complicated world of vampires, werewolves, valkyrie, warlocks, witches, sorceresses, rusalka, goblins, leannan sidhe… you get the idea.
Deadline (Blood Trails Book 1) by Jennifer Blackstream, is a well-written detective story, featuring an apprentice witch who’d rather be a detective, and her fey pixie familiar.
This is a fun detective story with several sub-plots. Mother Reynard, pardon me, Shade, and her faithful pixie familiar, Peasblossom, have multiple adventures with various supernatural creatures, some as allies and some as enemies. The story is well-written and flows smoothly, with some hair-raising encounters, good descriptions and interesting dialog. Looking forward to the next in the series, “Monster”.
Loved it!
I just wish there were 10 of these out already! I devoured both and can’t wait for more. Delightful strong witch woman coming into her own and her partner is a pixie–how great is that! Sassy, fun, and shows an original paranormal world. A heroine and sidekick that I would love to go out for tea and honey with.
I enjoy reading it very good read. To know more your have read it .you e
