This is the first time reading this author but it won’t be the last. I loved it. The main character is Verity who by dumping the ashes of Frankie onto her garden and that meant he was tied to her. With his help, giving her the ability to see on the ghostly plain, helped her to stop ghosts from do harm. She decides to start a ghost hunting business with his help and this is their first case . It is funny and fast moving but they figure it all out in the end.
This series has been imaginative, well-plotted and filled with interesting characters. More importantly, the imaginative ghost story is so self-consistent that I can read the whole book before I notice how silly the plot suppositions are. Its a fun read and I recommend it.
This was another great installment in the series. I have had a lot of fun tagging along with Verity and Frankie as they set things right in the world. In this installment, Verity gets the chance to actually get paid for the things that she has been doing ever since Frankie came into her life. The only catch is that she has to help find whatever treasure might be hiding inside a house that has more than its share of ghosts, and some of them are not happy.
I really had a great time with this book. I really liked the fact that Verity isn’t hiding her skills any longer. There were some unexpected twists in this book which added to the overall appeal. There was a time or two that I was really worried about Verity. I liked seeing how the relationship between Verity and Ellis is developing and I think that his character adds a lot to the story. Frankie added some lighter moments and I love how his personality offsets Verity’s almost perfectly.
Tavia Gilbert did a fantastic job with the narration of this series once again. I love how she is able to add so much life to each of the characters that play a role in the story. Over the years she has become one of my favorite narrators and I know that her narration added to my enjoyment of this story. I would highly recommend this series to others. It is such a fun cozy series with a perfectly balanced paranormal element. I cannot wait to listen to more of this series.
I loved this book as I do the whole series. Verity is trying to get her Ghost Hunting business started and is hired to clear the ghosts from a well known mansion. When Verity finds a dead body, she realizes that these ghosts can be dangerous.
I love these characters, I like that Verity is strong but shows a side of fear but keeps on going. I love the humor that had me laughing out loud a few times. The story behind the whole mystery of the haunted mansion was interesting with the different stories of the ghosts and how it all wraps up nicely with answers.
I will definitely continue on with this series.
Good story. Good characters. Fun read.
Verity and her ghostly sidekick are trying to give this ghost hunting business a real go. Pity her beau’s mother is a bit of a PITA and her first client wants to pay her in veg!
Killer title, right? Yeah, sorry couldn’t resist that one. However, that’s really what snagged my attention first. The whimsical cover screamed cozy mystery to me and that’s fine because I’ve been meaning to try more of them.
When I finished, I looked around and lamented the fact that I really needed to go back for the whole series. I’d missed out. Southern gal ghost hunter, quirky small town and residents, colorful ghost companion, swoony Sheriff’s Deputy flame, ghost-riddled mansion, cursed family, and Egyptian tomb treasure made my interest perk right up and stay there.
Verity was a heroine that I enjoyed though there were times that I shook my head over her lack of self-preservation. She’s bubbly and an all-around nice girl. She’s at the stage where she’s making the most of the circumstances that have her tied to a ghost. Instead of getting down about being the town kook, she wears that t-shirt with pizzazz. This is her first job in her new business after doing it all for free in the past. I admired how intrepid she was and concerned for the interests of all involved.
This was great fun with the humor splashed on liberally, but also had a pretty gritty ghostly mystery, too. I was nearly hyperventilating in one scene (take that with a grain of salt since I’m a wuss about scary stuff). The mystery had me curious and I had pieces of the solution, but not the entire thing before the reveal.
I experienced this story in audio edition. This was my first time with Tavia Gilbert for a narrator. I enjoyed her voice and her storytelling style. Her general narration voice is soothing without being soporific. She nailed the humor and had me figuratively chewing my nails during the scary crazy moments in the haunted mansion. I thought her Frankie the gangster ghost was perfect. She didn’t over do the gangsta schtick, but got the wry pragmatism. I’d definitely listen to more of her work.
All in all, this was a great first outing with a new to me author and series. I’ve got book one ready to go and would push this one at those who enjoy cozy mysteries that shade a little dark blended with the paranormal.
Another great series from Ms. Fox!!
suspense, supernatural, urban-fantasy, murder, mummies, murder-investigation, cozy-mystery, law-enforcement, ghosts
Read 2 times. Last read April 20, 2019.
More suspense. More malicious ghosts. Some absolute terror. One needn’t have read the earlier books in this series, but this will make you want to, even if only to find out how she came to have a pet skunk! Publisher’s blurb will give enough clues, but you really need to read it for yourself without spoilers!
Tavia Gilbert is perfect for this series!
I normally do not like books about spirits. This book was written with the right amount of sarcasm! Great read with unexpected twists!
Fast-paced as ghostly revelations help Verity understand who the true villain was as she struggles with issues both on the mortal and astral worlds.
This is the second of Angie Fox’s books with these characters I’ve read and can’t wait to read others! Lighthearted and fun, they are an easy read and kept my interest to the end.
Loved the main character. Easy read. Fun to read.
It is a fanciful read. Getting lost in the characters, ghosts and goblins is as much fun as l have experienced in awhile. Fun to read.
I really enjoyed the variety in this story…humor, suspense, a bit of romance. Also, good twists and turns to keep it from being predictable. Interesting characters (Lucy is adorable).
Great book with great characters.
Loved this book. The characters were very entertaining. It has just the right amount of scariness and humor!
Love these books. I’m more of sci-fy guy but got turned on to this series by a friend and was very happy that I took her advise!
Fun read.
I have read the first couple of this series and am hooked. While I read this out of order, it makes more sense if you read them in order, I really loved the story and could follow along.
