She’s back, and they’ll regret what they’ve done. Mildred Wells had a miserable life that carried over to a lonesome death. In the end, they betrayed her–played her the fool. She was the last to know, but there’s still time to catch up. She’ll formulate her painful plan as they live their lives in blissful ignorance. With no more family, only vengeance drives her; in fact, it’s all she has … anymore. She would rather have rested in peace, but for Mildred, dying isn’t so easy.

Book 2 of The Patience of a Dead Man series picked up where the first book left off and man, it did not disappoint. In Dead Woman Scorned, we learn more about Mildred and how she was molded and manipulated into what she became.
Mildred sets out for vengeance at the beginning of the book and never stops. What she went through in her early life was absolutely horrible and it deserved vengeance. She is single-minded in her mission and truly is a woman scorned. The author really has a knack of making the reader cheer for the villain in this story because I was pushing for Mildred for most of the book.
The book ends by setting up for a third book (yeah book three!!!) but it left me a little miffed because now I have to wait! I think I can wait, hopefully I can wait.
The Patience of a Dead Man series is wildly entertaining and scary as hell. I really enjoyed book one but book two exceeded my expectations. Michael Clark knows how pen a cast of lovable characters, even the antagonist is someone you anticipate with delight and anxious terror. Dead Woman Scorned takes the reader on a grim journey that explores the occult and those who practice the dark arts. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking a spooky read that will leave you with the feeling of dread at the sight of the common house fly.

Dead Woman Scorned was a refreshing change from the normal witchy reads you read today. This is the second book in The Patience of a Dead Man Series; however, it could be a stand-alone book. I found I enjoyed it much more than its predecessor.
Michael Clark did a fabulous job showing what made Mildred Wells the tormented soul she was in the first book. She wasn’t always the mean, vindictive revenant she that she turns into but a once sweet innocent girl who was tortured and manipulated by a power-hungry man. That man broke something inside her and turned her into something that wasn’t completely human long before she ever came to Sanborn or the house that she would one day haunt.
I found myself sympathizing with her as I read her backstory. How can you truly judge her for all the horrible things she has done when you find out the sinister backstory of her own life? This poor woman never knew true love and support that would end up making her the monster. When she finally discovers what she needs, it’s pulled away from her harshly and she then shuts down and lashes out in a horrible manner. To make matters worse, due to the witchcraft that was performed on her she had to live her days in the afterlife with the guilt of her actions and never know any peace, driving her mad, making her worse monster than she ever was in her “human life”, and that monster was set on performing her revenge on everyone who had ever wronged her.
The thing I found fascinating about this story was that even the most horrific and vile monster can still find their humanity sometimes. Just when you think Mildred Wells has lost all sense of good and is all lost, you see her interaction with Tim’s girls. In those moments it was like that sweet and innocent girl came back to the surface and just wanted to be safe and loved once more.
Clark took me on a wild ride with this gothic enchanting read that would make any Salem witch proud to be included in this tale. I enjoyed the entire journey and cannot wait to read the conclusion to the series.
Thank you, Michael Clark and R&R Book Tours for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.
Are you ready for a great villain back story?
I am always up for a good back story, this is not one of those cases where you see the Villain having a reason for the way they are. I believe that Mildred was never good but due to circumstances, she is now much worse.
This book begins with the back story of Mildred Wells and moves up to the present-day from her perspective. Then it covers the space between the last two chapters of the first book there is a time gap from April 1971 to October 1972, these are from the perspective of Tim, Holly, and Mildred. Then the book continues on beyond that.
I was pulled into this story from the beginning and did not want to put it down. I was just so sucked in and this is the perfect time of year for stories like this. And that ending I can not complain.
I really want to gush but there is so much that happens that I do not want to spoil it since this is the second book. So If you have read it and want to talk let me know.
I can not wait to pick up the last book to see how all of this ends.
This is a series that I highly suggest to read in the fall!
It is once again Freakish Friday, My Fellow Book Dragons and this Friday is especially Freakish. Look at this Gem. It looks as though it is made of Ivory. A small cube, a die, carved with odd symbols. Hold it in your claw and it feels warm. Hold it too long and it cools the blood to ice. That’s it, yes, best to put it back in the black velvet bag it came from. But it’s not Ivory, it’s made from bone, human bone. It is formed of magick. This is Gem Maker and Dragon Feeder Michael Clark’s “Dead Woman Scorned” and is the second book in the ‘Patience of a Dead Man’ tale.
First, I want to let you know, at the end of this review there is a link to an interview with Michael about his third and final book in the series “Anger is An Acid”. You won’t want to miss it.
A first happened with ‘Dead Woman Scorned”. For the first time ever, in all my long years of reading, the sequel warranted a 5+! Unfortunately, my rating system only goes to a 5. Millie is unlike any antagonist I have ever read. I have never felt my heart strings pulled over a character as nasty as she is. Michael did it. He made me sorry for her.
Tim and Holly are finally free of Millie at the farm, or are they? Is this a respite or are they truly liberated? Will she let them live in the peace they have worked so hard to earn or will she decide that no one shall have peace?
The Simmons’ family is back in the picture as well. Seems Elizabeth has a great-grand nephew. Wonder how that ill turn out? He’s a police officer. Will he be the one to solve the case of Millie and his aunt?
Oh Book Dragons! What a lovely, horrible, cold, terrifying bit of book this is. Four hundred pages that flew by far too quickly! I stayed up far into the night and on into the next day to finish this one! And you will, too! And it’s currently available on Kindle Unlimited for FREE! And Amazon has KU for 60 days FREE! Now is the time to get your deal. If you are like me and love to keep and read books like this again and again, you will definitely want to pick up the paperback, which is definitely reasonably priced.
Now for the interview link I promised you at the beginning: https://www.ericarobynreads.com/interview-with-michael-clark/?fbclid=IwAR1sFQ4O0tZ1KCg-5LbtbprG8twNoczBYEx7UtuZG6Bd8on9JSaQeeolaMQ
Enjoy! Until tomorrow, I remain, your humble Book Dragon,

I received a review copy of this book from the author #MichaelClark . My opinions are my own.
Dead Woman Scorned is another unsettling tale from Michael Clark filled with cults, the living dead, and a bloody quest for revenge.
This tale is the follow-up to The Patience of a Dead Man. I had finished the first book yesterday and dove into the second book immediately. Finishing it in just a few sittings… Now, I will anxiously await book three!
If you haven’t yet read book one, I definitely recommend starting there. While the author did a brief recap to catch the readers back up to speed on where things left off, knowing the entire backstory is critical here.
I was so thrilled to see that this story focused mainly on the backstory of our amazing, rage-filled, revenant queen, Mildred.
My heart absolutely broke for her time and time again during her upbringing. Her strength was awe-inspiring considering the torture she was going through… Of course, her upbringing doesn’t excuse the actions she took later in life, but it helped to paint a better picture of her mental state, that’s for sure!
Her revenge tour was filled with unabashed violence, lots of blood, and a bit of magick. Mildred certainly proved that she isn’t a force to reckon with.
When the story caught back up to current times, I was immediately nervous for Tim and Holly again. They were almost in the clear! Ugh!
But also in the current timeline, there were a number of new characters introduced that got my blood boiling. Man, if only people could mind their own business!
And remember my comment from my review of the first book, I found myself turning on an extra light in the house… just in case. Make that double this time around.
Yet again, another book I could go on and on about, but I’ll leave the grisly and exciting details for you to discover on your own!
