Dead to the Last Drop is another exciting addition to Kappes’ Killer Coffee series. Roxy finds herself drawn into another mystery when the town’s play goes from a fictional murder to a real murder of the play’s director. Roxy’s Aunt Maxie is at the center of the mystery as one of the actresses in the play, and Roxy’s friend, Loretta, becomes a murder suspect because of her connection to the murdered director. With Roxy as a witness to the murder, she has no choice but to try to solve this mystery.
Kappes does a great job at setting up an entertaining story that captures the reader’s interest from the beginning and never lets go. I always enjoying reading this series and catching up with old friends because all of the secondary characters are enjoyable and add to the story. I also liked the smaller stories such as Roxy facing a possible new business venture, and Roxy having the opportunity to solve this case with the sheriff’s blessing. The mystery was well done and helps to keep the reader guessing since there are so many suspects. Overall Dead to the Last Drop was an entertaining read that I would most definitely recommend. I look forward to reading Roxy and friends next adventure.
Received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Welcome once again to the small southern town of Honey Springs, Kentucky. Where everyone knows everyone and their business. I mean this in a good way. Walking into the Bean Hive Coffee Shop right away you feel the cozy warmth of the place and smell the delicious aroma of the coffee beans. Roxy, owner of the coffee shop, feels something is not right. She overhears conversation between people associated with the new play at the community theater and gets a weird vibe A murder takes place at the local community theatre. Roxy becomes part of the investigation aiding the sheriff. What a wonderful, entertaining story! Tonya has scored an hit! Don’t miss this charming story. I received an ARC for my honest review.
Dead To The Last Drop is a wonderful story about a small town Coffee Shop owner who witnesses a murder. Will her perviousbyears of experience as a lawyer help her solve the case?
I absolutely loved this story. Author Tonya Kappes gives such amazing detail about this small town you can picture the characters walking through town and see the shops in a row. The characters are funny, whitty and down right real! I was glued to my seat as I tried to figure out who the killer was. I was even more shocked by the ending!
I highly recommend this story.
I recieved an ARC and this is my honest opinion of the story.
Back to Honey Springs and The Bean Hive Roxy and the gang are back this time there is a play at the local community theater. Roxy finds another dead body and inserts herself into the investigation and Patrick is not happy. I loved this and can’t wait until the next one. I highly recommend this one.
I received a complimentary copy and left my review voluntarily
So good! It’s always a pleasure to read about Roxy and her gang of friends really . This is so funny to see how they can all get together to help and at the same bickering over little things.
This book made me smile really, the investigation is very well done with false hints and everything , the romance is super sweet, the pets are too cute ( i would have loved to find a Mocha^^;;) .
This is really the kind of cozy read that bring you a sense of comfort like a good cup of coffee ( or tea in my case) could. You are immersed in the story but you feel at home with friends so it’s easily read but a real page turner as well.
For once, Roxy is asked to snoop ^^ after a murder but she must stay discreet which doesn’t seem easy in that area especially when she must try not to tell her protective lovers….and all that while thinking about new idea for her coffee and saying goodbye to a friend…..Roxy is for sure very busy!
The added recipes are always a wonderful bonus as well.
A great cozy mystery, can be read as stand alone ( but even better read in order). To recommend
This is wonderful as always. This cozy mystery that takes place in a small town in Kentucky is always fantastic. I would start to worry if I lived in this town or visited it because there seems to be a lot of deaths that occur here. This town has great characters and I love how Roxy is allowed to bring in rescue animals to get to know the customers in hopes that the animal will be adopted into a loving home. There is a very good mystery also. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Honey Springs is the setting of this cozy. Winter time and a snowstorm knocks out the internet. Coffee is brewing at the Hive, and the locals are getting ready to put on a play. A “famous” actress and director come to town and stir things up. What happens next?
This is the first book in this series that I have read, the 8th book in the series. The story kept my attention and flowed smoothly. Well written. The characters were down to earth, I could feel myself sitting in the hive listening to them talk. All around a very good read
I was given an advanced readers copy and am giving my honest review
Honey Springs is one of my favorite places to visit. Tonya Kappes brings it alive with her loveable, and quirky characters. Roxy Bloom, is the owner of the Bean Hive, a place to grab coffee, meet up with friends for breakfast, or a light lunch. This time Roxy has her hands full with her Aunt Maxine, who is so excited to be the lead in one of “Low-retta” Bebe’s community productions. She is the lead, until a famous Broadway actress comes into town and takes the lead away. Needless to say, this does not sit well with Aunt Maxi! The hijinks begin when the producer shows up, as a favor to Loretta, changes the play, gives the lead to the “famous” actress, who called in a favor, and then, the producer ends up dead. With several suspects, in town, Aunt Maxie and Loretta have become one of the suspects! It’s up to Roxy to help find the killer, and clear Aunt Maxi and Loretta.
Ms. Kappes is a great storyteller and writes fun, laugh-out-loud stories. This one kept me laughing with the antics and Southern sayings that would pop up. I really enjoy all her characters and look forward to visiting Honey Springs each time a new book comes out, it’s like visiting family! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy, an appreciate the opportunity to do so.
It’s a keeper! I enjoyed this quick and adorable cozy. I will definitely be reading more! The characters were easy to get to know and relatable, and I enjoyed the flow of the story. I want to visit the Bean Hive and enjoy a cup of coffee with the crew!
This is the first book I have read in this series, but the 8th book in the series. I wasn’t lost at all and had no problem following the characters or the plot. I will go back and read more now that I’ve found them!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy.
Loretta aka Low-retta is going out of her mind trying to make the upcoming play a Broadway type success. Aunt Maxi is flipping her wig now that the lead has been taken away from her since an off Broadway producer and a washed up diva actress take over. When someone dies Roxie is on the case while juggling her coffee shop, making friendly with the diva’s overworked assistant, Aunt Maxi and Bunny’s bickering while trying to keep her husband Patrick from worrying, Roxie certainly has her hands full. But good coffee and some baked goods certainly make things a little better.
Welcome back to Honey Spring where Roxy’s Aunt Maxi thinks she is going have a major role in the local theater production Everyone is abuzz at the Bean Hive Coffeehouse when a Broadway producer, Alan and actress by the name of Gretchen show up to take over the local play upsetting everyone. During their first rehearsal Alan ends up dead and Roxy is the only witness, putting her right in the middle of another mystery.
Another fun cozy mystery in this series. I did guess who the killer was early one just not the reasons why. It was still fun to read about how Roxy figures out who the killer was. Roxy also has some changes coming to her life. Patrick needs to help his wife not hinder her even if she could be in danger, more reason to help her. He does love her something fierce though. It was fun being back in this small town and seeing all the familiar faces and catching up with the neighbors.

Time to curl up in your comfy spot and settle in to read…Roxy and the quirky cast of Honey Spring characters are back!
The acting bug has hit the charming town Honey Springs, Kentucky. The local community theater is putting on a play and Aunt Maxi has the starring role, or so she thought! Tensions are rising and then the unthinkable happens…death strikes again.
Honey Springs is about to have a play featuring Maxine Bloom. When Loretta calls in a favor, the play takes a turn with Alan Bogart, a big producer to spearhead it, and Gretchen Cannon, as the star.
Roxy gets hired to supply Gretchen daily with coffee, and maple pecan breakfast ring, which are made by Emily at Bees Knees. While Roxy was at the theater, Gretchen is upset, then storms off the stage along with her assistant, Sidney, following Alan’s insulting comment.
Roxy moves up to the stage to stand by her friend, Crissy and Aunt Maxi, when she notices ropes moving, calls out, and pushes her Aunt Maxi out of the way. Aunt Maxi is unharmed, but Alan is dead. When Sheriff Spencer Shepard shows up and refers to the accident, Roxy isn’t so sure, since she heard footsteps and a door open from above. Roxy is the sole witness and already has a list of suspects.
This play brought a ton of hissy fits that had me laughing out loud! I envisioned a volcano erupting when Aunt Maxi got upset, and her “face turned all sorts of colors before it landed on red.” When Gretchen, who is unaware that Loretta tells everyone that her tan is natural, but Gretchen tells her: “Honey, you’ve got to stop going to the tanning bed.”, which made Roxy spew her coffee right into Gretchen’s face! Lots of humor with a good mystery!
I received an ARC and I have voluntarily reviewed this book!
Great story. I haven’t read all the books in the series but it was easy to get drawn into the book. Characters and setting were fun to get to know and I will be looking into the rest of the series.
Another trip back to Honey Springs, Kentucky where I feel like I am back visiting good friends.
The town is getting ready for the local theater community play. Loretta has called in some favors.
That has brought an off Broadway actress and director to Honey Springs. New script, constant arguments and the whole thing is now a hot mess.
When the director gets killed, questions are asked.
Accident or Murder??
Well, Roxy is determined to get the answers.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.
Welcome back to The Bean Hive, where the coffee and gossip are equally hot. A has-been actress and her entourage arrive in town for a play at the local theater…and someone doesn’t survive. Tonya Kappes books are a blend of community, crime and southern charm. The writing is top-notch, the plot is tight and multi-layered, and the characters are well drawn and believable. I’m looking forward to future books. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
I loved Dead To The Last Drop. This book if fun and entertaining. I love the setting of Honey Springs and the wonderful characters. The mystery is complex and interesting and has many twists. This book is engaging and will keep your attention until the end. I highly recommend this book!
Back in Honey Springs where all the locals feel like family. I love how close everyone is, even when they’re at odds with each other, but are always willing to jump in and help when needed. Lots of exciting changes are in store for Roxy in the next book and can’t wait to see how that unfolds. I could feel the town’s frustration with the internet being out because that always happens when you need it the most. A determined Roxy finds a way around this problem to help her friends. Great addition of the mystery club meeting at the coffee house and looking forward to seeing more of them in the future. The murder involved someone from out of town and there were some interesting twists to the solution. Glad the rescue kitty found a loving forever home by the end.
I read an advanced copy for an honest review.
Welcome back to Honey Springs.
Aunt Maxine surprises Roxie with purple hair and the fact that she is the leading lady in Loretta’s new community play.
Maxine’s dreams of grandeur are cut short when off Broadway star Gretchen Cannon sweeps into town announcing that SHE is the new leading lady for the play. Not only that, but the famous Alan Bogart will be the new director/producer.
The story is filled with small town squabbles, big city egos and the clash of both. Add to that the crash of the internet, due to a snowstorm and you know that something has got to break! It does in the form of a sandbag crashing down and killing one of the big egos. Was it an accident or did someone cut the line? Roxie looked up and thought she saw a shadow move and a door open. Looks like ANOTHER murder for Roxie to solve.
There are tons of suspects, with tons of reasons to be the one whodonit. Our job, as the reader, is to sort through the suspects and see if we can figure out the mystery either before Roxie or at the same time Roxie does.
It’s always a pleasure to visit this town. We learn some new things (this time how to roast coffee), laugh at the antics of the town’s ladies and their “southern way” of insulting eachother and sadly say goodbye to character’s we have read grown up and are leaving the nest/and the town.
The author generously shares recipes with us, of the goodies she has described in the book. Yum! (less)
