Dead Silence

Robin Caroll
What a great suspense novel. This is the first book by Robin Caroll I’ve read and I would love to read more.
Dead Silence is a great story. The character’s are very likable and reading was easy to follow. “Dead Silence” is a fast read. The story got me hooked on the first chapter.
The story is about Elisa Carmichael, a court sign language interpreter, who happens to read the lips of two guy’s talking about killing a state Senator. She was unable to report information to the FBI till the next day, which was to late. The Senator happened to be her mother in law. What do you do? Turn to FBI agents or try to solve on you own. Then there’s the possibility to use both. Read “Dead Silence” to see what is the outcome of this murder.
I recommend this to anyone who love a great suspense novel.
I received this complimentary copy of this e-book from Revell and netgalley for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone
DEAD. SILENCE.
… Robin Carroll
Elsie couldn’t believe what the lips of the guard was saying, that could not be right. This person was a senator, her mother in law,. Looking at the guard as he nodded to another man at the federal courthouse she didn’t recognize either of them. A call her son had fallen at the park, now in hospital, she had to get there. He was seven and deaf, and now broken bones in wrist.
Wasn’t till morning, having the news on, and hearing of the murder, she hadn’t notify anyone, she only thought of her son. She is a lawyer, relations with her mother in law not great, she did love her grandson. They used messenger never any texts or files were ever sent to his I pad. They could not take his I pad for it was his way of communicating.
A deadly item in shoe box on her door step, the killer knew it was her. . Another box, did the FBI have a leak, who knew it was her identifying them.
A good flowing plot, murder within the family she knew. The author has woven in the heartstrings of a mother her concern first and foremost for her son. Readers will definitely enjoy reading and how it unfolds.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley and Barbour.Publishing.

I didn’t think this book was as good as the other books I have read by Ms. Caroll. There just seemed to be something lacking. The story line was good. The characters were ok. I just can’t put my finger on why it wasn’t as good. Elise is a loving mother who would do anything to protect her son. She spends a lot of time angry with God about her husbands death and her son’s deafness. Elise doesn’t much care for the FBI either. At first the FBI don’t believe her about witnessing the threat against the senator. Then when they start believing her, they wonder why she didn’t act sooner to warn her that her life was in danger.
Again, this wasn’t a bad book. Just not up to what I expected a Robin Caroll book to be like.
I was given this book by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Dead Silence is a fast-paced suspense novel that puts readers into the action right from the start. Elise Carmichael is able to read lips due to her hearing impaired son. She “overhears” a conversation about a murder plot. Things intensify when mysterious packages show up at her house, threatening her and her family.
Robin Caroll’s novels are always full of mystery and intrigue. Elise had many struggles before being threatened, as she suddenly found herself as a single mother and a widow. Her plight to protect her son and find herself again makes her a likable character. Lots of plot twists will readers engaged throughout the story. But I did find a few situations in the novel not entirely believable. While Elise is a strong and fierce character, she does act unrealistic when she decides to solve crimes with the help of a news reporter. Elise at times seems oblivious to the danger around her. She withholds a lot of information from the FBI, which would have helped their investigation. It seemed like the FBI bumbled through the investigation while the “rookies” of the story were able to find out more than the agents. I wished the FBI story line had more substance. FBI Agent Rodriguez had the potential to be a strong character, but he didn’t take charge and seemed pretty passive for an FBI agent. However, this didn’t stop me from enjoying the story.
Definitely add Dead Silence to your TBR list– despite my comments above, the story is full of action and suspense and is an enjoyable novel.
Overall Rating: 4 stars (I liked it a lot and would definitely recommend)
Suspense Rating: 4 stars (lots of action and suspense to keep me intrigued)
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Cozy mysteries are fun and exiting way to spend a couple of hours. Robin Caroll has written a number of them. The plot starts out with an inciting incident, which throws the heroine on a loop through the rest of the novel. While the plot keeps moving, just the way I like them, it does seem like a lot for a six day period. I wish the final moments and the reasoning behind the whole thing was a little deeper than it was. It seemed pretty simplistic of a reason. Once the heroine figures it out, I shook my head in disbelief. Really. That was what all the fuss was about. Definitely not a top notch cozy mystery in my book. The writing is wonderful. Caroll definitely knows how to capture the readers with her attention to detail and unique characters. I enjoyed seeing a deaf child make an appearance. Overall, I wish for more to the mystery elements to fully immerse me into the story line. But this is my opinion, this could be your favorite mystery story.
I received a complimentary copy of Dead Silence by Robin Caroll through Barbour Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Virginia Vaughan writes good suspense and this one is well done. Identical twins whose lives are in danger is the basis for this book. Wonderful suspense throughout. Good writing and nice characters. Recommended.
