How far will he go to have his revenge? When the fingers of dead women start showing up in the Supreme Court’s mail, ex-FBI Agent Jeremy Winter is brought back to the Bureau to aid in the investigation. Agent Maggie Keeley, his girlfriend and now boss, leads the search for the serial killer. Together, Jeremy and Maggie learn the five remaining cities on the murderer’s list, but they have no idea … list, but they have no idea when the killer will strike or whom he will target. When they stumble upon a clue at the scene of a young woman’s death, the case focuses on an abandoned ramshackle home in sparsely populated west Texas. As the FBI closes in, the ante is upped in ways no one could have imagined, forcing Jeremy to choose between justice and revenge.

This book is the second in a series. I would recommend reading the first book prior to this one. Although I enjoyed the first book, I liked this one much better. We still get the story from Jeremy Winter’s perspective and the perspective of the serial killer, but there is a better balance and there aren’t as many gruesome details. Knowing “who did it” makes the story all about the hunt. You won’t want to put it down. Story lines from book 1 are continued in this book, but the main mystery is resolved. I’m glad book 3 is already out so I do not have to wait to find out what happens next!
Enjoyed very much
This was an excellent book. Didn’t wNt to put it down, fast paced and great characters
Mr. Threadgill has another winner in the second of the Jeremy Winter series. While there aren’t quite as many gory details here as in The Coming of Winter, there is plenty of tension, suspense, action, and twists. One of my favorite things about Mr. Threadgill’s writing is that he proves it is quite possible to write an intense, gritty, pulse-pounding thriller without resorting to the use of profanity or gratuitous, graphic sex scenes. It is such a nice change. Mr. Threadgill also creates characters that the reader loves and loves to hate. His protagonists are relatable, fully-developed, three-dimensional characters that this reader had no difficulty bonding with. The only criticism I can come up with (and it’s relatively minor) is that I would have liked to see the background of the killer more fully developed. I like to know why and what events in the killer’s past made them the way they are. Here the things from the killer’s past were hinted at but not explored to the extent I would have liked. It didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story but was my personal preference. Now to read the third Jeremy Winter book and then see what else Mr. Threadgill has available. I recommend you check him out.
It was a good read. The plot was interesting and well developed.
The pace of the series continues to escalate in this second novel. By the end, the pages zipped past my eyes.
Excellent cat and mouse storyline with one twisted villain as the cunning feline. And, two brilliant FBI agents in search of the next steps of the maniacal monster.
Can’t wait to read the last series novel, it’s going to be dynamic.
I really liked this book & appreciated NO PROFANITY – yay! It kept me reading to find out what would happen next…very entertaining.
I like the Jeremy Winter character.
I liked the characters and the story moved right along, kept me turning the pages. Good dialogue, realistic. Satisfactory ending.
Excellent crime story
The book was interesting. Really enjoyed reading this book. A good thriller.
If you like scary page-turning mysteries, this is the book for you
Slow starting, and a bit wordy in the first half of the book, but overall a good read.
This story involves the FBI’s pursuit of a demonic serial killer who believes he is driven by God and guided by biblical themes from the Old Testament in his killings. The first half of the book was slow and spent a lot of time exploring the psyche and motivations of the killer. The story picked up speed in the second half when the actual hunt for the suspect began to take shape and the investigation progresses. Even so, the story didn’t have a lot of twists and turn or surprises. The ending was a little rushed, but overall the story held my interest.
There are some series that you find yourself wishing the author could write faster. This is one of them. Great read. I usually read a book in one sitting but had family obligations. Found myself antsy to get back to see what was happening without me.
I liked the writing style and characters. Suspenseful. Will look for one that follows.
Great read
Wow wow. This book was hard to put down even for a meal. Now i’ve read each of the winter books believe me i am ready for the next. My kind of book i read while ridding to and from work. I sware the time just flies by. Instantly i am absorbed in the story. Such good reading i happily give you 5 stars
Oooh, I just loved this book! With tending grandkids for the weekend, it was pretty hard to read, but I carried my Kindle around and read a page wherever I got a chance. As the FBI search for a serial killer, he manages to elude them. I liked the scriptural references (that were necessary for the plot) and appreciated that the book was clean. There were places that I realized most authors would have included sex or profanity, but there was neither. The repartee between the two main characters was priceless, although I felt that Maggie was too hard on Jeremy. Super good story! I do want to read the others in the series now!
Wonderful read! I’m not an aggressive reader but I couldn’t put this book down. The characters are amazing. They are dedicated to solving the crime and are always hot on the heels of the killer. This book has Biblical references which are intriguing and bring you back to your days in Children’s Sunday School where you got your foundation. Overall a very suspenseful good read. Leaves you wanting the next installment.
Follow up to Threadgill’s Coming of Winter, one of the best books I read in 2018. Adult crime thriller without the profanity or sex so prevalent in today’s books.
