From bestselling author Emily Goodwin comes the epic start to a sexy and exciting paranormal romance series…Never trust a vampire.I might have learned that lesson the hard way. But when I find myself in a vampire-owned bar, I don’t have much of a choice. With vampires still trying to assimilate into mainstream society, I’ve done Lucas King a favor by stopping one of his patrons from draining a … patrons from draining a human dry in the basement of his bar. A favor he’d prefer to repay in bed than in kind.
Vampires and witches have had more than a jaded history, and when witches start showing up dead in surrounding covens, all signs point to something old and powerful. Something that knows the ways of the witches.
Something–or someone–like Lucas.
What’s worse than trusting a vampire? Falling in love with one.
Dead of Night a vampire/witch romance and is book one in the Thorne Hill series.

Dead of Night by Emily Goodwin is book One in The Thorne Hill Series. This is the story of Lucas and Callie. Lucas is a old and power vampire (young in looks of course) who is immediately attracted to Callie. Callie is a witch that is working to solve the deaths of her fellow witches. Callie thinks at first that maybe Lucas is the reason for the witches that are disappearing. Vampire and Witches are usually enemies so Callie and Lucas shouldn’t even have the attraction they are feeling but they can’t stop it from growing.
Great dark paranormal read…can’t wait for the other books.
The last and only book that I have read by this author was Stay (2014). Which I loved now I wish I had kept reading her books, not sure why I haven’t read more of her books.
I was drawn into Dead of Night from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. This is Lucas and Callista’s “Callie” story.
Callie is 24 and is already a powerful witch. Lucas is a 1600 year old Vampire. Lucas likes that Callie is a sassy talking witch and she keeps threatening him that she will stake him if he tries to kill her because witches and vampires don’t mix and are enemies of each other. But, they are drawn together.
I want to clean house like Callie does! A little bit of magic is all it takes.
Emily Goodwin gave a shout out to one of my favorite authors, T.L. Smith. I love when an author mentions another author that they read their books.
Dark of Night, Book Two in the Thorne Hill Series will be coming soon and I can’t wait to read it!
4.5 Stars
I loved this story didn’t take me long to be pulled in.
Callie is a witch that doesn’t fit with her normal family so she becomes the black sheep. Her passion is to hunt evil and she is darn good at it too.
When she runs into a vampire, Lucas, she thinks he is just another blood sucking jerk.
He was far from it.
I fell in love with Lucas and the relationship between the two of them. They are perfect together and their relationship leaves you wanting more.
This isn’t a cliffhanger but it does leave you on a slight hook for the next book.
Definitely a series I want to continue reading.
I picked this book up when it was free, not expecting much ( shame on me ) but the adventure started with Callie, a witch, and soon involves Lucas, a vampire and I was HOOKED! I loved this storyline and how they navigate through a murder mystery plus their feelings for each other though it’s not really permitted for her to be with a vamp. This is the first from this author and I’m eager to get to book 2 to see where this story goes. I’d really recommend this book if you’re looking for a PNR to sink your teeth into.
Two people who the rules say shouldn’t be together but are use their powers for good and are very good for each other. Steamy.
I loved this book. Callie is a good witch that protects her friends and town from demons. She owns a bookstore with her best friend. She has serious family issues. She happens to go to a vampire bar that is owned by a very old and powerful vampire, Lucas. She stops a vampire from draining a human. Lucas is intrigued by her and offers her a ride home. They start a friendship which turns into a relationship. They have to overcome hurdles to stay alive and together. A true page turner. I could not put it down.
109-year-old Edward Cullen had far better control on his sexual needs and thoughts than this apparent 1600-year-old vampire called Lucas.
On second thought, I’d bet that even Emmett Cullen would have far better control than Lucas.
What’s not to like..kick ass witch and hunky vamp save the world! Hooked. Need to read all in the series.
I didn’t think much if it but the story keeps drawing u in
Enjoyed this book so much I had to purchase the rest of the series and read one right after the other in 3 days. Great characters!!
Omg!!! Loved it!! Can’t wait to read the rest!
I love how Callie took life by her terms even when her own family was against her for being the only witch in the family the book kept me on toes for pass 3 days of reading it I love it nothing gets better than reading Emily Goodwin books she is amazing writer
Callie is an easy to like character. Lucas is the perfect forbidden fruit. The danger is exciting and plenty of sex romps with a vampire.
Needs proofreading.
Good enough to go buy the entire series. Including the pre-order
Loved this book. Hard to put down.
Great paranormal romance.
Loved the story. Action packed, steamy romance, mystery, intrigue.
Loved Callie an Lucas. Both strong characters.
There was still questions to be answered.
Great start to the series.
The primary storyline was pretty good, but the sex & romance were fairly mechanical. The dialog between the lovers was not what most lovers use & stripped the romance of any affection.
Loved it
