From bestselling author Emily Goodwin comes the epic start to a sexy and exciting paranormal romance series…Never trust a vampire.I might have learned that lesson the hard way. But when I find myself in a vampire-owned bar, I don’t have much of a choice. With vampires still trying to assimilate into mainstream society, I’ve done Lucas King a favor by stopping one of his patrons from draining a … patrons from draining a human dry in the basement of his bar. A favor he’d prefer to repay in bed than in kind.
Vampires and witches have had more than a jaded history, and when witches start showing up dead in surrounding covens, all signs point to something old and powerful. Something that knows the ways of the witches.
Something–or someone–like Lucas.
What’s worse than trusting a vampire? Falling in love with one.
Dead of Night a vampire/witch romance and is book one in the Thorne Hill series.

Wow i loved this book so much i couldn’t put it down i was hooked from start to finish. I can’t wait to see whats next in this series and i will definitely be recommending it.
I was going crazy banana pants waiting for this book!
Callie is a witch, Lucas is a vampire. There’s a spark right away but since witches and vampires are natural enemies there’s a little push and pull before they give in. The beginning felt a little off too me, I wasn’t sure if it wasn’t clicking for me because I wasn’t quite sold on Callie and Lucas connecting or their characters as the book opened but something wasn’t grabbing me at first.
Once the story moves on it got so much better for me and I felt like I was watching an episode of Supernatural (an episode where the sex was on screen HA! Hawt!) and stopped trying to figure out what wasn’t working with the romance and got fully engrossed in the action/adventure. Callie and Lucas make an AMAZING team! Seriously I cannot wait for more of them! This is book 1 and book 2 will be here before we know it! YASSSSS
If you aren’t normally a fan of Paranormal Romance but enjoy watching shows like Supernatural or heck even Buffy the Vampire Slayer (LUKE PERRY FOREVER!) then give this book a try, I think you’ll be amazed at how much you enjoy it!
Dead of Night Book 1 The Thorne Hill Series by Emily Goodwin
5 +++ Stars
Wowza! This is usually not the type of book I read but I am soooo glad I took the chance and dove right in! It is so MARVELOUS!! LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!! I couldn’t put it down! It is action packed and full of suspense.
“Light of the moon, dark of the night, cloak us from all, hide us from sight.”
Can not wait for Book 2 in the series!
While I don’t read a ton of paranormal romance, it is one of my favorite genres. There is something cathartic about living in a world so far removed from our own for a few hours that feels like a balm to my heart a soul. Dead of Night stood up to my high standard for PNR, and I loved seeing Emily Goodwin’s take on a world beyond humans.
I fell in love with Callie in the first chapter. She was sassy and strong, but a vulnerability and self-deprecation were simmering just below the surface that made her intensely likable. As the novel went on, I found myself more and more fascinated with Callie. Lucas was not instantly enchanting, his broody moodiness called to me in a different way, a more intense way. He’s precisely the kind of book boyfriend I appreciate most. I loved how intensely they connected and respected each other’s wants, needs, and abilities.
While the developing relationship between Callie and Lucas was the highlight of Dead of Night for me, the suspense and drama kept me equally glued to my kindle while I was reading. I was desperately trying to hold onto each reveal and put together all the answers I needed before the pages quit coming, I didn’t quite get all of them, but it left me salivating for the next book in this series, Dark of Night.
Dead of Night by Emily Goodwin is an action packed paranormal romance that will have you hooked from beginning to end. The storyline was intriguing with its twists and turns, the romance between the witch and the vampire was intense and steamy and the mystery/suspense had you on the edge of your seat throughout the story.
Callie was fierce and could take care of herself, Lucas was an old very powerful vampire and these two had an intense attraction from the moment they met and their chemistry just skyrocketed thereafter. The secondary characters were amazing and provided great support to the MC.
I loved this page-turner. It was well-crafted and engrossing and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of Paranormal/fantasy romance.
What a great read!
I so didn’t expect to get sucked into this book as fast as I did. Let’s face, most paranormal books are very similar. This most certainly wasn’t the case for me. The worldbuilding is fantastic, you’re quickly drawn to Callie and all the other wonderful characters who are so relatable. Even the dysfunction of Callie’s family is easily relatable, in a sense. There is always that one jerk sibling you can’t stand.
I really can’t wait for more
I AM OBSESSED
I cannot explain how much I love this book, the characters were amazing. I was so nervous since I haven’t been into the vamp/witch stories since years ago, but boy am I happy I picked this up. This is EVERYTHING.
Emily has me so obsessed and so in love with these characters. I couldn’t put it down; I didn’t want to finish it so fast but like I said….. i couldn’t put the book down for a second. This book was very difference, but everything about it was perfect. Lucas OWNS MY HEART!!! Gosh, the way he was so possessive and protective of Callie had me swooning like a crazy person.
Callie and Lucas are the last people that should be together, they are so different yet so much a like at the same time. These two weren’t expecting to meet, but after everything they have been through they were meant to meet. Callie and Lucas were destine to meet so they could see what they were missing, these two were meant to find each other.
The chemistry and sexual tension was off the charts!!!! I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, because it’s all I think about. Like I said, I AM OBSESSED !!!!
Dear world, I love paranormal and vampire romances were my first jam! There’s only so many vampire romances that I truly adore and Dead of Night has easily become one of them. I am all for contemporary romance authors diving into the paranormal genre especially if I love their books already.
Dead of Night is a witch/vampire read and I can’t say that I’ve read a book about this kind of duo, but I am here for all of it. Give me all of these reads.
I just love vampire reads, there’s always something so dark, alluring and damn right erotic about these creatures of the night. I simply can’t get enough of them. Lucas and Callie are just steaming off of these pages the entire book.
Callie is BA of a witch who can definitely hold her own in any fight. And I loved the confidence that she constantly had in herself, she’s sooooo strong and someone you don’t want to mess with. PERIOD. There’s still the big question about what she actually is, I was hoping it would have been answered in this one, but it looks like we’ll have to wait for book 2 to find out. I have my theories, so I can be patient to find out.
To complement Callie’s badassery, we have the 1,600 year old vampire that is Lucas. And he’s everything that I want all my favorite vampires to be. Badass, strong, oozing sexiness … don’t mind me as my fanning myself, and just downright caring and protective in their own ways. But it’s nearly impossible not to fall in love with Lucas. Behind all that persona, he definitely has his soft side when it comes to Callie, he wants nothing more than to keep her safe, but he ultimately respects what she’s capable of and would never ask her to stay out of a fight. I loved that.
From beginning to end, I loved every moment between these two. Let’s not forget Callie’s familiars who have her back no matter what and her friends/coven. There’s definitely dark times ahead for Callie and that’s huge arc of this story. Someone or something is hunting these witches and killing them, but it seems that whomever is doing this is looking for one certain person.
I’m obsessed with these two, this world, book and series! You’ve got the romance AND suspense/mystery all in one. Emily, you’ve done good with this PNR romance and I am so ready for more!
major thank you to social butterfly pr for the complimentary copy in consideration for a review. this does not affect my opinion of the book or review.
