Day 2 of the zombie apocalypse
The story picks up from Day 1. Selena wakes up with a mean hangover on a lovely sunny day after a night of careless drinking with her friends, only to find a couple of nasty surprises. The first one being her little sister’s birthday party. The second one is the zombie in the back garden, turning the birthday into a totally different party altogether …

Excerpt
The girl from the field comes crashing through the rosehips. The thorns are tugging at her clothes and leaving bloody scratches on her arms, yet the girl doesn’t seem to pay notice. She just stumbles out onto the lawn with stiff, staggering steps.
The face of the girl leaves Selina speechless. Her messy hair can’t hide the greenish hue dominating the skin nor the milky white eyes which belong to a dead fish rather than a teenage girl. The gaze is fixed on one of the girls who is standing with her back to the rosehips only a few yards away.
“Selina?” Dad asks, pulling her back. “What’s wrong?”
Selina lifts her arm and points.
Allan has already turned his head to look. “Shit!” he exclaims, spinning on his heel and running to the hallway.
“Allan!” Soren exclaims, getting up from the table. “What are you doing?”
But Allan doesn’t answer, and a second later the front door slams.
Selina is still pointing and staring at the window, unable to move or speak, trapped as though in a nightmare, everything suddenly moving painfully slow. She sees the girl who’s got to be Jennie Nygaard descend upon the girl; it looks most of all like a clumsy embrace, causing both of them to fall to the grass. For a few seconds, they scramble around.
Then the girl screams. This time, it’s a genuine scream. A scream of pain and fear.
“What the heck?” Dad says. “What’s she doing? Is that the girl you guys are—”
“Stay in here,” Soren commands, running through the living room and opening the terrace door. Dad follows him.
Selina still can’t move. Events seem to speed up again, reaching an unnatural pace. She sees and hears everything from the window, which is ajar.
Jennie Nygaard is sitting astride the girl who is still screaming, now in very shrill, batlike tones. Jennie Nygaard throws back her head, and Selina sees the bloody chunk between her teeth. It disappears quickly out of sight, as the teenager gulps it down and promptly bends down for another bite.
What the fuck? She’s … she’s … biting her!
“Hey, you!” Soren calls as he comes running across the lawn. “Stop that right now!”
Jennie Nygaard doesn’t react the slightest to his call, but keeps doing what’s she doing.
“Hey!” Soren yells, grabbing her by the shoulder. “I told you to—”
Selina sees him freeze in place, his expression turning to utter horror. “What the hell are you doing? Stop! … Stop that!”
He shoves Jennie Nygaard aside, giving Selina a clear view of the girl on the grass. The sight makes her gasp. There’s a giant bloody crater in the neck of the girl. She’s no longer screaming …

What a great continuation of the zombie apocalypse!
Day 2 of Dead Meat centers around a young woman named Selina. At her little sister Louisa’s birthday party, chaos erupts. When Selina steps up courageously, she finds that zombies are real. Can she stop the spread, or is it already too late?
It’s rare that I like a sequel more than I do the first book in a series, but I have to say, this was my favorite book so far in the Dead Meat series.
The main reason behind that is most likely the setting and Selina’s perspective. Selina is a brave, smart young woman. She not overly emotional and doesn’t spend a ton of time questioning things, something I think is pretty rare for a teenager these days. She steps up when it counts, and it really sets the story in motion. I will say I would’ve liked to know more about why she is such a courageous kid or if there was an inciting incident in her past that made her this way, but overall she is a great heroine.
We also get to see some other familiar faces in this book, but the focus is primarily on Selina, and I enjoyed that.
As always, the writing was done very well and was fluid. I blazed through this entire book in three short sessions.
I love me a good plot, and the setting was perfect for this book. I’m not sure why I was so crazy about a little girl’s birthday party as the setting for tragedy and why it worked so well, but it did. I was hooked from the first page and didn’t want to stop. I liked where the adventure took us and was grateful that there was less emphasis on the setting and events of Day 0 and what happened there. Pacing was great, and there was never a dull moment, which only spurred me on faster.
This was a wonderful part of the series, and I can’t wait to read what happens next!
In Dead Meat: Day 2, the zombie outbreak has begun to spin out of control but thanks to two teenagers, they are trying their best to control the outbreak.
Can the virus be stopped before it becomes a full blown epidemic?
This was such a suspenseful tale! Once you pick it up and start reading, you won’t want to put it down.
I highly recommend this one, but make sure to read Day 1 first!
Zombies. A missing girl, Jennie Nygaard. A bloody bite.
Selena, a young girl with big courage.
Allen, a cop who saw the truth.
Dan, my favorite character and brother of Jennie, knows what’s happening.
Nick Clausen gives us lots of gruesome violence and tons of action.
There’s a moment in time when in could have been stopped…but what’s the fun in that?
The saying about courage overcoming fear is pertinent to Dan. Does the world rest on his shoulders and his refusal to quit?
Nick Clausen does not hesitate to kill off his characters, regardless of how good they are, so be careful who you choose as your favorite.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Dead Meat: Day 2 by Nick Clausen.

Dan is trying to stop this disease from spreading and every time he thinks he’s got it, something more pops up. His sister has taken off and he needs to find her. But what he finds instead are a few cops that got caught up in this mess. And while one of the cops has figured things out, it doesn’t mean he played his hand wisely, and so the madness continues.
Dead Meat Day 2 picks off where Day 1 left off, right in the middle of the action. There’s a bit less “horror cheese factor” in this one, and I think it’s an interesting change. But the scenes are gruesome and what you expect to happen during a budding zombie apocalypse. I appreciated that the kids weren’t immune to what they had to do, that it wasn’t just senseless killing. Another well-written, edge of your seat thriller from Clausen. I’m looking forward to continuing this story with Day 3.
This one was even better than day 1.
Selena is introduced this time and from beginning to end its suspenseful and keeps you gripped till the end.
Cant wait till book 3
Well I finally find out Jenny’s fate!! Oh boy does she cause a zombie domino effect! So be ready for a crazy ride.
Jenny has managed to end up in Selina yard and causes so much trouble. So tragedy strikes at Selina’s house and she goes into survival mode. Then the chase is on. She is trying to prevent this domino effect to spread. Do you remember Dan, well he is helping Selina. Are they successful? Will they be able to warn everyone?
Get ready for a wild ride? Once you start this series you will not stop! Now I need to find out what happens with Selina!
