I thought that this was an excellent book and a great addition to this series. Gio and Marissa’s story was hot and juicy. I loved the chemistry, banter and tension between these two. This is a poignant and emotional romance that will capture every bit of your attention and quite honestly steal your heart. I fell so hard for these characters. I truly believe it is impossible not to. Their anxieties and doubts make them very relatable and genuine. Gio was a temperature raising combo of swoon worthy dominance and heart melting sweetness. Marissa was fiesty and fierce but also very vulnerable. Together they make a pair that will have you rooting for them every step of the way.
What starts out with two people starring in each others nightmares, turns into a torrid affair and much more.
Until new and old resentments are putting all in danger.
But still another Tacone brother takes the way out of the family business and into a new, a very different future.
Gio’s wake up call!!! I loved watching these big bad tough guys go down one after another for the desire of their hearts. It’s always sweetly hot to see a soft spot in a mafia guy. The steam heat just rolled off my kindle as I read this. I loved the undeniable connection between Marissa and Gio from the start and it only got hotter as the story played out! I felt empathy for Gio-the PTSD and the bad boy that wanted to play piano. Tugging on my heart strings hard! I liked how Marissa pushes the envelope with Gio nonstop. Nothing less than a fiesty strong queen for a Tacone man and that’s what he gets and more! They take care and treasure what they OWN!!! Marissa’s family may be well intentioned but interfering and too harsh on Gio. Her family manipulated and took advantage of her over and over-not cool at all. I can’t wait for Paolo and Caitlin’s story. I hate leaving Tacone land!! Be back soon!!!!
Gio! He’s back and with his own story. Yay! If you’ve been following this series, then you know that Gio was the one who was shot outside Café Milano all those months ago, and since that time, he’s been…existing. Admittedly, anyone who has lived through something so harrowing will have difficulty finding meaning in life. That is until he’s back “in touch” with Marissa and suddenly, he’s looking downright “rejuvenated.” Okay, so I was trying to find a better euphemism even though I’m sure, if you’re reading this review, you know what I mean, but I’ve hit the mid-afternoon slump while I’m writing this review and couldn’t think of a better word other than to drag it out. So…re-ju-ve-NA-TED! All-righty. This wouldn’t be a Renee Rose without a hefty dose of humor, some serious female sass, electrifying chemistry, and a happily ever after. So what are you waiting for?
We met Gio in a previous book, Jokers Wild. This is part of the Vegas Underground series, and my opinion should be read in order so you know the back story for everyone. Not necessary, but it would be better to do so. Makes the reading experience better.
Oh my Gods, I love, love Gio Tacone. He’s the right amount of alpha to handle someone like Marissa. Totally alpha, but still so sweet when it comes to her.
Gio hadn’t been quite the same since he was shot, and he wonders about a lot in his life. Including Marissa. Almost dying changed a lot about who he is, and what he wants out of life.
Marissa herself is a firecracker, not bending to what the Tacone’s want of her. She kept the peace when Gio was shot, and that bought her some good grace with them I think, but other than that. She does her own thing. Until she needs money for something. She goes about that all wrong. You don’t blackmail a Tacone and get away with it. Unless it’s Gio you’re blackmailing, and you’re Marissa.
They have something real, and it gets serious pretty fast when she realizes that Gio isn’t like how she thought he was. He’s not the hard core mafia guy she thought. He’s so much more than that. For Marissa at least. He makes a lot of concessions for her. More than most would.
You see early on how they’re relationship will go, but when Marissa’s grandparents have an issue with her being with Gio, or any Tacone things go a bit off course.
I also loved that we got to see Nico in this book. Always good to see those from Vegas when this book takes place in Chicago. Can’t wait for Paolo’s book.
OMG I loved this,Gio is a dream and you will devour this and fall in love as he shows his posseviness and love for Marrissa, they are perfect and so steamy and fierce together I think I melted with a whole lot of Aw’s.
A second chance for both of them but not without some hurdles to jump over first.
Absolutely loved Gio and Marissa’s story. An almost tragic event happens to Gio and Marissa. Can they overcome it? Will this event bring them closer? Or will it destroy them? So good. Can’t wait for more from Renee.
Each book in this series gets better. Definitely 4.5 stars. Although there are situations referenced from previous books in each book, they can be read as standalones. There is just enough information provided so you know what is going on, and possibly enough to make you go back at read the earlier books.
Gio and Marissa fit so well together. They both were vulnerable after the attack Him survived, and somehow managed to make one another whole. They filled a need in not sure either Gio or Marissa recognized.
I could completely understand Marissa’s hesitation about getting involved with a member of the Tacone family. In fact, I’m surprised she didn’t spend all of their time together looking over her shoulder.
I was actually struggling with another book and I picked up Dead Man’s Hand for a couple of minutes. Just to clear my head so I could finish the first book. I started reading about Him and Marissa, and didn’t put it down until I finished the last page.
A steamy romance with a hot, older, dominant man who spends all of his time showing a hard working, aspiring chef how much he cares for her. A fast paced, sometimes slightly intense read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy received from the author.
This is almost a Romeo and Juliet story except nobody dies Gio almost died before and it is his nightmares that bring about the change in him and draws him to Marissa. It is about two families who are enemies and two of the children fall in love, there is a setback and unlike Romeo and Juliet there is a happy ending. There is a lot of hot sex and sweet, albeit different, romance and a feeling of ahh at the end, it is perfect. I can’t wait for Paulo’s story.
This is another great addition to the Vegas Underground series that revolves around Gio and his budding relationship with Marissa. A year ago Gio is gunned down by the Russian bratva outside the cafe that Marissa’s grandparents own and almost dies. Ever since this happened, both of them have had nightmares about what occurred and find it soothing to be around each other. Marissa helps Gio come put of his funk that he has been in since the shooting and from there the attraction only increases. I loved the story. It is well written, entertaining and holds your attention. I love how Ms. Rose portrays Gio with a heart and a soul adding so much to the story. The sexual and emotional interaction between the two of them is both erotic and sensual. I would highly recommend this book as a great read along with the previous books in this series.
