I really enjoy Nolan’s storytelling and the characters in this series. Jake is a very strong lead and there is quite a bit that unfolds in this book. Tons of detail that helps you definitely plug into the exact place the author wants to transport you to. I really hope to read more of Jake and his adventures and see how Nolan continues shaping the series.
I read about 10 chapters a day in this book because so much happened in every chapter that I did not want to put it down. It’s about mysterious killer who calls himself The Artist that is assassinating wealthy lawyers in San Francisco. Jake Wolfe is a photo journalist who accidentally takes a picture of the assassin during a murder. The Artist adds Jake to his kill list and he becomes a target in a deadly game of cat and mouse that only one of them can survive. All the characters work well all through the book and there are so many surprises.
Not only is the story a “page turner”, it is an extremely well written story, with some very good editing, one’s reading isn’t slowed by either constant typos, or misuse of words. Simply a very good read.
I have read over 100 books in the last year and this was one of my favorites. His writing is on par with Clancy and Flynn. I think it is a must read for those who like action packed crime novels! I am now reading his new book Vigilante Assassin!
Mark Nolan brings his characters off the page and into your heart. Some you will love, others will be hated but there are none who will not get any reaction. Dog lovers will laugh and cry along with the delightful military canine who will steal your heart. A brilliantly written novel with unending surprises interlaced with humor and thrills.
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie is book one in the six volume Jake Wolfe Novel series and the beginning of what will be a roller coaster thrill ride. I had read nothing by Mark Nolan, but after having friends, whose opinions I trust recommend that I read him, I bought the first three volumes of this series as a box set. I’m a very critical reader where thrillers involving government agencies like the FBI, CIA and the Secret Service, as well as city, county, and State LEOs are concerned because I have an intimate working knowledge of those organizations. Most writers drop the ball at some point, but Mark Nolan surprised me by getting everything right.
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie is a book that you won’t be able to put down once you start reading it. It’s nonstop action from the first page to the last page with an ending that will blow you away as surely as a block of C-4 would. The title is appropriate, at the same time a little misleading because this story goes much deeper than dead lawyers. There’s an international conspiracy, a super secret group out to control the world by employing an international assassin. There’s a retired marine dog handler who works as a photojournalist and is framed by the assassin for the assault on a congressman’s pregnant wife. Everyone is out gunning for him, the SFPD, the FBI, with orders to shoot him and his war dog on sight. No one believes him innocent except for a couple of friends that work for the SFPD and a veterinarian. After the FBI, the Secret Service captured him and the veterinarian frees him and he becomes instrumental in taking down the assassin. As an added thrill, there’s a neurotic SFPD detective sergeant who wants to kill Jake and his dog because he looks like her dead fiance.
Although you can read and enjoy this book reading none of the volumes that come after it, you’ll want to read them because the ending to Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie leads right into Book 2 Vigilante Assassin. I’m starting Vigilante Assassin now.
Really liked this book. It did have a lot of what some would call fluff, but it was woven into the story so well you actually liked reading it. Will read another book in the series as liked the Jake Wolfe character. If the next one is as good, Mark Nolan may move to the head of the class!!
Mark Nolan sets the stage for a mystery that keeps you guessing till the end . A killer who proclaims himself The Artist killing wealthy lawyers in San Fransisco. Jake Wolfe puts himself and his loved ones in a game of deadly pursuit after taking the killers picture. Jake’s past as a war veteran and skills give him an advantage to surviving that the killer didn’t expect . Jake’s love of dogs, his strong friendships and skills helped develop this story to where I had to keep reading to see what Jake would do to survive and protect those he loves. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and where this story goes.
Jake Wolfe is an ex-marine with a non-nonsense attitude that you are sure to love! From the first page, this book is difficult to put down as you just fall in love with the characters and the incredibly gripping story! Mark Nolan has done a wonderful job leaving me both satisfied as a reader and wanting more!
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie: A Gripping Thriller (Jake Wolfe Book 1) by Mark Nolan
4 out of 5 Stars
This book is the first in the Jake Wolfe series and let me tell you that it is very fast-paced. I love crime, drama, mystery, and murder genres. But the book had my head reeling. This wasn’t at all bad at times. I loved the fast action most of the time. Similar to when you are watching a good movie and the fight scene is just THAT good. But I did find myself having to go back and reread a few portions to figure out something because there was much to the plot that I could not remember it all. However, having said all that, If I was ever in trouble, I would want Jake Wolfe to come to bail me out, because, dang. That man can really help a girl out. Jake is a war vet who is determined to protect those around him from the trouble that seems to find him.
This is a good book for lovers of mysteries, suspense, action, and adventure. The character dialogue is hilarious and the action is fast.
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie by Mark Nolan is a fantastic read. I couldn’t put it down until I was done! Mark Nolan does a fantastic job of breathing life into his characters. The storyline was well written and the characters relatable. I can’t wait to read the next book.
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie (Jake Wolfe #1) by Mark Nolan
Was a thrilling 5 star read that pulls you in right from the beginning.
Jake is working on a job that had him following a lawyer, things take a dangerous twist when the lawyer is killed and he captures a picture of the killer known as The Artist. The Artist is fully aware of Jake and adds him to his list, he has a job to take out three dirty lawyers and he won’t let anyone get in his way.
Jake has a friend on the police force that he assists, he was also in the Marines with him so they have a bond. Can they find the killer before he strikes again?
Overall this was a great read. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. You won’t want to put it down until you finish. We get multiple POV which I love so we can get into the killer’s head as well. If you’re looking for a great read, 1-click and get started today.

Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie: A Gripping Thriller (Jake Wolfe Book 1) by Mark Nolan
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie is the first in the Jake Wolfe Series. This is a story packed with action, suspense, and danger. Once you start reading you will find yourself on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what happens next. There’s a lot going in this book but it all flows well . Jake and Cody, Cody is a dog whom Jake adopts after his owner dies . Jake is a retired veteran who is working as a photo journalist. While trying to dig up info for his story he witnesses a Lawyer getting murdered. Find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
This book starts with an attorney at law winning yet another case and letting a guilty party go free and destroy another life in the process and when they go to celebrate with their colleagues at one of the exclusive country clubs with a round of golf, they find that they are not as immune to the repercussions as they thought when they are killed by an assassin and one of the witnesses is Jake Wolfe, a photojournalist who has been tailing him for a story and manages to take a picture of the assassin. Jake is not your typical run of the mill photojournalists either, he has a direct line to his friend and police officer Terell who he calls the incident in to and tries to help with the investigation as best that he can, he also has the ability to remain calm under pressure and take note of situations in a more concise manner than most.
We next meet the assassin as he leaves the scene in a meticulously planned manner, he has planned everything about this murder down to the smallest detail and is more than happy with the result, apart from the photographer who managed to get a picture of him, but it is something he will deal with in the future, it is only a photographer after all, so he returns to his hotel to plan the next stage of his plan. Meanwhile, Terell has arrived at the crime scene and is speaking to Jake while also receiving the evidence that he has collected, which is also being shared on the media by Jake as a live update on what is known about the case as it develops, this infuriates the assassin and he decides to up the ante and to make Jake his next target after all.
These two, the assassin and the journalist will soon be entangled in an epic chase around San Francisco as the bodies keep piling up and the investigation gets more and more convoluted as the police try to find out who the assassin is and who his next target is going to be. Add into the mix other members of the San Francisco Police Department who are not all on the right side of the law themselves and a highly intelligent dog who knows more than he is letting on and this is going to be a case that nobody will forget in a hurry.
Will Jake manage to use his skills and catch The Artist, or will he fall victim to The Artist’s employers plan and lead to them getting what they want? This is a thriller which is fast paced, action packed and will leave you wanting to know what happens in the next installments, well worth a read.
I give Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie: A Gripping Thriller (Jake Wolfe Book 1) by Mark Nolan 4 stars.
The characters are what really make this book for me. Jake and his dog have both been through a lot and struggle with their pasts. Finding each other was the best thing that happened to them both. These characters I found so endearing and realistic. The secondary characters round out the story well too and really make this a great book.
Then there is the story itself. Very detailed and suspenseful, the author has a way of making you feel like you have been dropped right into this book alongside Jake. I loved the progression of the story and could not put it down until I was finished.
If you are a fan of strong characters and a thrilling story, this book is for you.
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie (Jake Wolfe #1) by Mark Nolan

I am a huge fan of Mark Nolan’s; his writing abilities are absolutely incredible. I had previously read the third book in the Jake Wolfe series and loved it so I knew I had to start the series from the beginning and I am so glad I did!
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie is a phenomenal thriller read. From the very first chapter I was hooked! I found the characters really easy to connect with and the storyline was highly entertaining. It’s action-packed, intense, funny and incredibly detailed, a real page turner. I loved all the thought that went into this series, it’s truly one of a kind! I can’t wait to dive into the rest of this series.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for their next thriller read!
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie is the first book in the Jake Wolfe series.
The story line is intriguing. There is a good amount of action and suspense as you read. I love the addition of the dog as an integral part of the book. That being said, there are a few places where the story is slowed a little by some filler that could have been cut and still left a superb adventure.
Overall, a good read.
Oh my this book is good! I love a good mystery and this book definitely gives you that. The characters are wonderful and they make such an impression you think they are jumping off the page. The story is of a longer length however once you start reading you will not mind a bit. I didn’t want the story to end. Mark Nolan has created a novel that I will recommend to all my friends! I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review.
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie: A Gripping Thriller (Jake Wolfe Book 1)
By Mark Nolan
This book drew me in from the beginning. I found this story to be full of action, suspense, humor, twists and turns, and wonderful characters including Cody the dog. There is a lot going on in this book but it all flowed nicely so you aren’t confused in any way. Even though this story is a little long I kept finding myself not wanting to put it down because I needed to know what was going to happen next. This book kept me entertained and at the edge of my seat at times. The author did a great job in writing with vivid detail. This is a good mystery novel that I recommend reading.
Dead Lawyers Don’t Lie is the first book in Mark Nolan’s Jack Wolfe series. It’s an exciting mystery that keeps readers on the edge of their seat throughout!
In this book we get to know Wolfe, as well as Cody, the dog he adopts following the death of Cody’s previous owner. The affection Wolfe has for Cody and the growing bond between the pair is really special and helped me to grow to like Wolfe as a character! As a retired military dog, Cody is well-trained and very intelligent – a perfect sidekick for Wolfe!
Wolfe seems to constantly be getting himself into trouble, which adds to the tension. The story switches between viewpoints which further serves to heighten this tension! The viewpoints also help the reader to see different sides to the story – I definitely found myself sympathising with the killer from time to time.
For me, this is a five-star read. It’s a fairly long book – a good companion for a holiday (if you’re lucky enough to be able to travel…) or to snuggle up with on a staycation. I’d recommend to readers who enjoy action and mystery, and have a soft spot for four-legged heroes!
