What would you do if your husband became obsessed with turning your cat into an internet sensation? Mollie McGhie is excited about the Coconut Cove regatta. She’s looking forward to sailing to Destiny Key, enjoying the Fourth of July festivities, and dressing her cat, Mrs. Moto, up in adorable costumes for her hubby’s crazy new YouTube channel. Instead, they lose the race, get caught in a … the race, get caught in a dangerous storm, and find a dead body in their dinghy.
The local chief of police claims that it was an accidental death, but Mollie is convinced that a murder took place. During her investigation, Mollie gets drawn into the local art community, worries that her cat is going to turn into a diva, learns more about the mysterious Destiny Key, and even does a waitressing gig in exchange for bacon.
Can Mollie prove that someone was murdered in her dinghy or will this horrible crime be covered up?

Love this series. Mollie McGhie keeps finding dead bodies. Ms. Jacobson’s main character gets better (and funnier) with each book. The cast of secondary characters are becoming more fleshed out, adding a delightful element to the mystery series. If you enjoy quirky characters and a fun mystery along with some serious suspense, you’ll enjoy Dead in the Dinghy.
A breezy cozy mystery that’s fun and easy to follow. Scooter and Mollie McGhie are repairing their sailboat, ‘Marjorie Jane’, and decide to participate in the Coconut Cove Regatta. Their vocal and photogenic fur child—a calico named Mrs. Moto—lives and sails on the boat with them. Rowing ashore to a small island, Destiny Key, during the race, Mollie and Mrs. Moto find a corpse in their dinghy and a police chief unwilling to call it what it obviously is – a murder. Come aboard as Scooter and Mollie and their sailing friends put their heads together and figure out whodunnit.
Moving swiftly as the ocean currents, the story is original and humor-filled. I’ve read the prequel and the previous three stories in the Mollie McGhie Sailing Mysteries and highly recommend this series.
I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by the Author and BookFunnel. Thank you.
Fantastic series featuring or favorite UFO Investigative Reporter! Mollie is really becoming a sailor, but Mrs Moto stole the show, and she is the Admiral! So many funny moments, multiple murders and lots of suspects!

This is my favorite of the series so far and the whole series has been a fun ride. I am glad to know that more installments, at least one, is on the way.
I barely figured out who did it before the big reveal and wasn’t sure I was right until that moment. Nicely done on Jacobson’s part.
What really made me love this installment:
1) Mollie gets to show off her sailing skills and finally embraces a marina life. I’m happy to know that she’s content in her life.
2) Mollie finally gets some respect for her role as an investigator. I won’t give away spoilers but it’s nice when a character like Mollie receives respect from her peers.
3) Mollie has made mistakes in the past that haven’t given me much confidence in her abilities, but she’s always made me laugh. In this book, even her mistakes make sense. I was right there with her.
4) Misses Moto never stops being cute.
5) Sailing/boating rituals.
6) Some real touching moments that evoked real emotion.
Disclaimer: I received a digital ARC of this book for an honest review.
Another really fun read. Highly recommended to fans of cozy mysteries, humor, and this series.
So much fun!
Mollie & Scooter have the Marjorie Jane ready for action and they sure find it during a regatta.
Mollie is a fantastic character and I love following along on her adventures.
This is a fun mystery with great plot twists that had me turning the page for more – a great read!
This cozy did it completely right: 1. Engaging, interesting characters, 2. Plenty of good suspects, 3. Well paced and constructed plot, 4. Great clue placement, 5. A cute cat (okay, that last one isn’t strictly necessary, but it does check one of my boxes!).
In addition the author pulled off the story without making everyone around the sleuth seem stupid and clueless which has always been a bit of a pet peeve of mine in certain cozies (Seriously, how do these detectives get their jobs if they are so incompetent?). And she laid out the clues so that I figured out who the killer was right before the protagonist, which gets bonus points from me. There’s nothing worse than either realizing who the killer is in the first couple of chapters or having it come so out of left field that you’re left wondering how that happened and that wasn’t the case here.
This was the first book I’ve read in the series, but it read perfectly as a standalone (though I will be checking out the rest). If you are a fan of cozies, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. If you aren’t, this might actually make you a fan. Book received from Booksprout, it’s my pleasure to leave a review.
Mollie is finding dead bodies again! What a way to spoil a splendid Fourth of July festival. This is a really good series and this is a really good book. I love Molly and I adore Mrs. Moto! Who could not? What do you mean diva? Is not that what cats are? Either way, I love the whole set up, the story, the characters, and the town!

Excited that Marjorie Jane is finally seaworthy, Mollie and Scooter enter the regatta. Along for the journey is the next YouTube sensation, Mrs. Moto. They spend the night at an artist retreat during a storm. Undercurrents in the art community create tension and lead to another murder. I look forward to each novel in this series. The characters are appealing and the mystery engrossing. I recommend Dead in the Dinghy.
