My sincere thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for allowing me the opportunity of reading and reviewing this advance copy of Dead Cold Brew.
Another gem of a mystery (pun intended!) by the very talented Cleo Coyle! This Coffeehouse Mystery begins in 1956 aboard the historical Italian ocean liner Andrea Doria just before that fateful moment of impact. A murder of self-defense, a lost diamond, and a mystery that spans the decades brings about surprising present day consequences that put Clare and Matteo on a rollercoaster of an adventure, fraught with hazards along the way.
When Quinn’s partner is injured in the line of duty, Clare’s eyes are opened to the potential heartache of loving a police detective. You’ll have to read the book to learn where this path takes them!
Great, fun read, 4.5 stars.
I love this series. As for this book, blackmail, wills, murder, and a decades-old scandal. What’s not to love? Cleo Coyle always weaves a great story.
4 1/2 Stars
Wow. Well, that was one HECK of a ride, and not what I expected from a cozy series that I totally love.
This book had my moral compass all catty-wompuss and there were moments when I wasn’t sure I could finish it. To be honest, I love these characters like they are my friends and I knew that people in this book were going to get emotionally hurt and that really bugged me [for reasons I am not even really sure about]. The only thing that kept this book from being 5 stars was the ending; I do not believe that it would have been that easy-peasy to wrap things up. I get that it is a cozy, but if you are going to start this book out the way that they did and then drop a million bombshells during the book, at least have the decency to end it like it would have in real life. Don’t get me wrong, I liked most of the end and I am glad that things were taken care of, I just don’t think it would have been as easy as they made it out to be [for the sake of the readers I suppose].
In spite of that, I loved this crazy book; what a story. I highly recommend this series; it just is SO good.
This 16th installment in Cleo Coyle’s coffehouse series was the most entertaining yet. Intrigue and suspense ensues as Clare and her ex-husband Matt become entangled in a mystery revealing a dark family secret. As usual, the cast of characters introduced along the way are colorful and entertaining. And the recipes that are intertwined in the story are delightful! Each book in this series leaves me looking forward to the next! LOVED it.
One of her best! The plot was fantastic!
I love all the books in this series! Characters are interesting and in-depth, and Cleo Coyle knows how to write an exciting story.
I love this series. Great characters that you know deliver sparkle and charm to each mystery. I highly recommend.
I love all Cleo Coyle books very well written
Great book, interesting story.
Fast paced, fun, and full of adventure, this book was over far too quickly. Which is saying something because at 349 pages, it is already longer than many cozy mystery books. The author does a nice job weaving multiple story lines together and keeping you hooked until the very end. There is a massive section of recipes in the back of this book. I can’t wait to get into the kitchen and try them out (especially Clare’s Cannoli Cream Cupcakes!)
Sub-Themes: coffee, coffeehouse, business owner, New York
Can You Start the Series in the Middle?
This is a series I have jumped around in. I have read multiple books in the series, but I haven’t read them straight through in order. You can follow the story starting in the middle. I’m sure if you read them straight through you’d have a deeper attachment to Clare’s love life and the plight she has been on to get to where she is in this book.

This was a great story. The phrase diamonds are a girl’s best friend should be changed to diamonds make people do crazy things. I really enjoy this series for so many reasons. The situations Clair gets in are crazy dangerous. Shes so brave, and always gets her eggs in so many baskets. It’s always entertaining how she ALWAYS ends up in some crazy outfit. Always makes for a giggle. Can’t wait to read more.
I am giving this book all the stars. This is book 16 in this lovely cozy mystery series and I have read them all from the first. This is a series for me that I read one maybe two a year. Each time its like going home. I love the way this husband and wife writing team keeps you wanting to read more of the series. This book gives a lot of great history into the family. I also love the covers for this series that is a star all on its own. The narrator Rebecca Gibel is wonderful too. So the story on its own is a 4 star for me I just had to add the last star for everything else. I bowerred this audiobook from Overdrive from my local library.
Not her best. They all start to sound the same.
An entertaining story with a satisfying ending. Well drawn characters and an engrossing plot.
Solid cozy mystery with great recipes.
All of Cleo Coyle’s Coffeehouse mysteries are good reading.
I’m number 16 into the Coffeehouse Mystery series with our main heroine, Clare Cosi. This series seems to be slowing down or I find the plots get more convoluted from book to book. This installment had so many subplots that you needed a scorecard to keep up with what was happening. We had Clare Cosi investigating a kidnapping and also eye witness to a sniper shooting down the police in costume no less. This story had a cold case murder, an attempted current murder, Diamonds from a sunken ship, etc. The prologue was very good and peeked my interest right away but then the author threw in, Mike finally proposing to Clare! Was that to keep all the minute details of the plot interesting? I did enjoy this installment but everything started to feel familiar as in “Deja Vu”. I want to continue the series but I still can’t see how a Manager of a coffee house can get away with as much as Clare is allowed, cop boyfriend or not. I had to read the epilogue twice to figure out the resolution to the diamond. Interesting but not one of the best in the series.
The twisted plot was a surprise.
From a favorite series, this one doesn’t dissapoint.
Always a fun read with informative tidbits. I’ve learned so much about the coffee business. How I’d love to visit this coffee shop and meet Claire and Mateo!
I always enjoy her books! Nice to read another one.
