The quaint coastal town of Port St. Joe, FL isn’t the kind of place where people go around getting stabbed to death. So, when Jake Bellamy – an insurance agent and beloved father – is found murdered in the dewy grass of a local park, it comes as a bit of a shock. Now it’s up to Evan Caldwell, the new Sheriff and recent transplant, to solve the case.
All he wants to do is live peacefully on his … and recent transplant, to solve the case.
All he wants to do is live peacefully on his boat and tend to his comatose wife, but that’s easier said than done when he’s tasked with solving the murder of a man with no enemies. Evan struggles to find a motive for the brutal slaying, but when the killer strikes a second time, even the theories he thought he had fall apart. The only thing he knows for sure is that no one will be safe in Port St. Joe until he closes this case.
This is the second book in the Still Waters series; character-driven suspense filled with rich, coastal atmosphere and dry humor.

An engrossing read!
McKenna draws her characters with depth and personality. They are fully rounded individuals that pull you into their story, making sure you stay invested. Their stories? Threads that she brings together to create the warp and weft of a fascinating, unique tapestry.
Caldwell is a reluctant Sheriff at best, and while his Deputies and Sargeants seem loathe to accept him as their new leader, he is managing – in small increments – to bring them on side. Even if it is a side he’s not sure he wants. But he gets the job done.
I’m queueing up Book Three as I type; I highly recommend these books and this author!
The second book in this series is just as action packed as the first. The characters and plot are believable and realistic, and makes for a very fast paced story. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Highly recommend!
Great character development, very unusual motive discovered…original and creative. Yet to discover the reason for the character Hannah. I`m now going back to read the first book of this series. Mimi
Good mystery with good character development. Entertaining series.
Enjoyed the charcter and plot. No overly graphic violence.
Love this protagonist – witty and sharp and smart. Great supporting characters – you almost feel like you know them. Story that keeps you reading past your bedtime. More please.
Love Dawn McKenna’s books.
Very, very good!
The combination of Dawn Lee and Axel Blackwell have produced another great series along the lines of the Forgotten Coast stories. This one pits the new sheriff against the locals of Port St Joe. Love the characters and the setting descriptions. Bring more on.
A great read.
A very good read. Really enjoyed. Look forward to reading more of his books,
Enjoyed the story, like the authors style, love reading tales set in area familiar to me.
Love love love all their books, keep them coming!
Quick read but a very good read. Good character building. Got to know the main characters really well. Good story, good storytelling.
Love these authors
I enjoyed this novels like the rest of the series. It had an excellent plot and kept ones interest.
It was an okay book. Parts were funny and witty. I hesitate to recommend books because people often hate the books I read. I love a good psycho thriller murder and not many people that I know enjoy those!
I am waiting for the next book. I especially enjoy the interactions of the main character and his cat. I am hoping for a positive outcome for his wife (in a coma), but am resigned to a fatal outcome.
One I didn’t figure
out till the last clues were given. Good read
