Days of Panic is book 1 of an EMP, post-apocalyptic survival thriller series. It’s a powerful, action-packed story about the ones we leave behind and the risks we must take to survive.

Interesting take on not so severe apocalypse
Plausible
Good book….not exactly an original idea bu very well written
scary concept made all too realistic, but oh so interesting, I kept waiting waiting for the next shoe to drop…..
Great series written by a fantastic writer. Read 1 free and bought the whole series.
I loved this book so much, that I read it in 1 day. Then I went and purchased the rest of the series. This book gives the ready many things to think about. We would hate to find ourselves in the predicament that these characters are in.
Kept me on the edge of my seat. I learned a lot of what I need to do in the event of an EMP.
I finished this 1st book in the series in record time, for me. And, I’ve started book 2 in the series and am over half finished in one day. That says a lot for me. Excellent read.
Great read! The story could be an event in our future.
What will you do to protect your family and survive.
Reasonable coverage of what would likely happen after a high level explosion above the earth.
I wanted to like this book, I really did. The characters were interesting, the premise was set, the writing was decent…. But the book…. Slow, methodical, boring. Even the few bits of action were unemotional, quickly described and it moved on… plodding. Sorry but I rarely give up on a book but I kept waiting for something interesting to happen and when I looked to see I was half way through and I was still waiting for them to attempt to leave the city I suddenly realized I could force myself no more. Pass on this.
This was a pretty good introduction to a series about surviving after an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP). The book follows four strangers who find themselves together in Times Square after a probable EMP hits. A downed plane takes out most people and these four decide to try to find a working vehicle in order for one of them, Eliot, to return to Lake Placid.
The book has some good survivalist info, a pretty predictable story line, and a bit of character development. There is enough action to keep the reader interested and I loved the addition of a dog to the mix. I have read a lot of books in this genre, so there wasn’t a lot new to this one. But, it was well-written, the characters each had something intriguing about them, and the research was sound.
The narrator did a good job and helped in my enjoyment of the book. I was given the chance to listen to this book by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.
Good start for a series
Days of Panic charts the progress of four main characters during the first couple of days after an EMP strike on New York City, which kills off the power grid for the whole state. Elliot is a homeless PTSD-stricken Iraq veteran, Damon an ex-con, Maggie has just escaped from an abusive boyfriend, and Jesse is a loner motorbike messenger still mourning his dead wife.
Another story runs alongside, that of Elliot’s wife Rayna and their two kids, living in a small town upstate, with the luxury of Elliot’s prepper shelter for when society collapses, as it begins to do almost immediately.
I liked how Hunt, in good disaster movie tradition, sets up his characters by illustrating their pre-disaster lives. As those lives become entangled and they traverse the chaos to escape to Lake Placid and Rayna’s house, though, I felt that Jesse and Maggie got somehow lost along the way. Elliot and Damon were clear to me all the way through, totally 3D, but the other two became just names on a page. I liked the Rayna story, that worked very well.
The suspense in this novel is terrific, and I enjoyed it all; I particularly liked how feasible it was, with Elliot (Hunt) knowing his stuff about both EMPs and bug out shelters; I found it completely convincing. My only problem with it was one I keep finding with books of this genre, though this was better than others ~ it reads like it’s been written quickly, checked over a few times, then bunged up on Amazon. Jack Hunt is an excellent writer and I shall definitely download the next book, though only because I can do so on Kindle Unlimited; I may not if I had to pay for it. There are lots and lots of run-on sentences (I don’t think there is one semicolon in the whole book), and lazy grammar and missing punctuation. Then there are instances such as Elliot estimating that the four of them could walk the 285 miles to Lake Placid in four days. Dude, that’s over 70 miles per day. Even experienced, fit hikers with proper footwear would consider half that distance pretty hard going, and Maggie had an injured leg, which makes me sure that the book has never seen either an editor or very thorough re-drafting. Shame – if it had a couple of good re-writes and a proofreader/copy editor who knows his/her stuff, it would be terrific and the stuff of which 5* reviews are made. Having said that, Jack Hunt publishes a new book every five minutes and sells tons of them, so I doubt he will care too much what I think!
I did like it, quite a lot in places, which makes it worthy of 4*, but in the interests of objective reviewing I feel I can only give it 3.5*, rounded up on Amazon and down on Goodreads.
I enjoyed reading this
This was a really good book, reminded me of the extinction series!
The interesting mix of the party of four trying to get out of the unraveling city sets the tone for the book. Misfits really, all of them finally concede to the danger at hand, fully realizing the danger of they stay. From a millennial who wants to help everyone to a recently released convict, the party of four use their strengths to press on. Quick read. Helpful hints. Remember, it’s about survival.
I’d never read an EMP (electric magnetoc pulse) novel. I’d heard it said that an EMP is what countries should worry about. DAYS OF PANIC was excellent. The second book CHAOS, not so much. ICHAOS had me trying totie in things from the first book due to the lack of back story.
Good first read. Not series material.
I liked this book. Good characters
great book
