I have read every book Baldacci had written. I love his style of writing and all the characters he brings together.. if you have never read the Will Robie, Memory Man, and the King and Maxwell series now is the time to start! His books always leave me want to read more. So yes I’m hooked.
David Baldacci is the king of suspense thrillers in my opinion. He has a way of weaving a storyline that fits perfectly in what is going on in the world today. He really gets you thinking. This is the third book in the Atlee Pine series. She has issues from her childhood that have left her somewhat flawed, but becomes an FBI agent. She wants to do what’s right for her country and the people she’s supposed to protect, especially children. She’s still trying to find out what happened that horrible night when she was six years old and her twin sister went missing and she almost died. She finally has a lead on who might have taken Mercy which leads her and Carol Blum to Trenton, New Jersey. While checking on that lead she inadvertently finds herself in the middle of John Puller’s case. It turns out her investigation partially coincides with his, so they decide to work together. As the story unfolds, they find his case reaches into high places in America’s government, military, police, financiers, etc. As they finally are able to wrap up John’s case, Atlee finds out where Mercy was taken to thirty years ago. She and Carol head there. There were so many twists and turns that I couldn’t put the book down. And what an ending. It appears to me that David Baldacci has more in store for Atlee. A fourth book in the series? I also really enjoy when his characters from his other series join forces. Awesome read!
Special Agent Atlee Pine has some serious anger problems and is told by her boss to sort out her underlying trauma’s or leave the FBI. So, now she’s looking for the person who abducted her twin sister and almost killed herself when they were 6-years-olds. After a long series of adventures (that are told in the 2 previous books), she has discovered a large part of the story and the identity of the culprit, Ito Vincenzo. Who has disappeared a long time ago. His son is currently in prison and the grandson is involved in a drug ring. At the start of the book, she disturbs a raid on the grandson’s house/pill factory that was organised by John Puller. Since they have a mutually shared interest in the same persons, they join forces. But they soon experience that they get stonewalled everywhere, even when there’s an attempt on their lives in which another CID agent dies. The local police try to use a black boy as the scapegoat for the shooting. Someone high up in the chain of command must be involved to organise such a massive cover-up. The conspiracy involves people with a lot of power to pull strings in almost every direction the investigation goes. It’s more than dangerous with people dying all around them; friends, witnesses and suspects alike. Both Pine and Puller refuse to give up, though.
I must admit that Atlee Pine is a new character and I’m really sorry that I didn’t read the 2 previous stories as that would have given me a better insight in the kidnapping story, her family relations, and history. As for now, I could piece everything together as the author gives an oversight of the major discoveries she made when she talks to Puller. Him, I do know from earlier books. He was never my favourite character but as a cat-lover, he can’t be too unsympathetic. His brother Robert, whom I like better, also appears in this book. There are also 2 memorable recommendations to make. Carol Blum, Atlee’s administrative assistant shows phenomenal courage under duress and Puller’s cat AWOL not only warns him for intruders but remains stoic after a gunfight. I luckily do not have experience with gunshots but my cat apparently knows that I’m at the door from the moment I step of my bicycle before putting my key in the lock.
Baldacci writes very patriotic books. Even as a foreigner, I feel sympathy for the armed forces and FBI while reading his stories. They’re so suspenseful and compelling that I have problems putting them down to perform my other activities. The plot is rather complicated because of the different crimes they must investigate in various places. There are also so many people involved in the crimes that you have to keep your wits with you. The cross-over between the 2 series is a great success, Puller and Pine strike up a beautiful friendship, but there’s no romance between them. Maybe that can still happen in the future because the storyline of Atlee’s sister Mercy is not finished yet.
I thank Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing for the free ARC they provided and this is my honest, unbiased review of it.
Great story with great characters! Another fine book!!!
A good sequel and nice set up for the next in the series.
Love series
Where is Mercy? Where is the Mother? Where is the Father, so many questions left unanswered!
Title: Daylight (An Atlee Pine Thriller #3)
Author: David Baldacci
Pages: 416
Year: 2020
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Atlee Pine is an FBI Special Agent and a woman on a mission! She is focused, tough and doggedly determined to locate her twin sister. Readers are encouraged to read this series in order to fully appreciate the developing tale of Atlee Pine. The first book is titled Long Road to Mercy, followed by A Minute to Midnight. Each book reveals just a little bit more of what occurred one night when Mercy and Atlee, twin girls, were in bed. At the end of that night, Atlee is severely injured, and Mercy is nowhere to be found. Each book not only tells a little bit more of Atlee’s background and that of her family, but there are cases Atlee is caught up in and helps to solve.
In Daylight, Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum are chasing down a recent lead that might help Atlee find her sister. The revelations in the book about what Atlee didn’t know about her parents is surprising and creates tension that kept me reading for hours. The story has a character from another series in the Baldacci world of fiction named John Puller. John Puller is a top-notch Army CID agent, and Atlee inadvertently steps into his current investigation. So, they set out together to solve their respective cases because they seem very entangled and so huge that each person couldn’t solve their case alone. What they didn’t expect is the amount of danger and risk rises exponentially from sources that are supposed to be helping them.
Throughout the book, readers can expect surprises in the plot and maybe characters from other Baldacci books. In Daylight, David Baldacci takes his time weaving a masterpiece of a story that pulls readers in with an ending that will take your breath away! Join the adventure and continuing tale of FBI Agent Atlee Pine as she scours the country looking for her sister Mercy. You won’t regret it!
Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.
Well written tale of right wing conspiracies an corruption in the Vatican.
DAYLIGHT by David Baldacci didn’t waste any time imprisoning this reader. The haunting sense of impending tragedy kept me breathless to the last page.
Not as smooth as most of Baldacci’s books. Surprised that he brought John Puller into the mix, since Atlee has been on this crusade alone for the past two books.
So, was Mercy named wrong?
This is only my 3rd David Baldacci book, it’s a page turner. I just couldn’t put it down.
When you read a book by author David Baldacci, you come to expect a certain level of writing that you know will keep you locked in for the entire book. In Daylight, the third Atlee Pine FBI thriller novel, Baldacci does not disappoint. This book can be read as a standalone, however the first two books are equally as good, so I really recommend reading them if you can.
From the very first chapter, Baldacci had me captivated by the action-packed plot. In the third book, FBI Agent Atlee Pine is following leads on a personal quest to find her missing twin sister, Mercy, who was abducted when they were both six years old. While following leads, Pine crosses paths with CID John Puller whom she has worked with on other cases and it appears that his case has some overlap with Pine’s case, so they decide to work together.
We have seen Puller before in another Baldacci series and it is nice to see him again in this book. When an author can interweave a character into two different series, I think it is magical!! It’s like revisiting an old friend. If you haven’t read the other books, Puller is a likeable character and you get to know him pretty quickly in this series. Working together, Pine and Puller uncover a gigantic cover-up and find themselves crossing paths with a threatening killer, all while Pine is trying to find leads on her missing sister!!
Baldacci is a one of the best writers of action-packed thrillers!! In this novel, the action is non-stop and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. Daylight
ends on a cliffhanger, so I am already looking forward to the next book in the series!
Gripping thrill ride!
From the first page, Baldacci grabs you and pulls you in to an action-packed, thrill a minute roller coaster ride of epic proportions. Atlee Pine and her assistant Carol. Blum are new to me, but Baldacci fleshes them out effectively enough that you get a feel for their distinct personalities without dragging down the story line. The brothers Puller, John and Robert, are back in all their hard-hitting, tough as nails, all-American veterans glory who will go beyond the extra mile to keep America great still!
Atlee, still looking for her long lost sister, is sucked into a mystery of complexity that increases with the number of bodies that pile up like cord wood readied for winter. The solving of this ever increasingly dangerous situation requires not only the hard-hitting straightforward bull in a china closet norm of both Pine and Puller, but the highly intellectual computer skills of the third P, Robert Puller.
At the last final second with all available witnesses and helpful friends either killed off or transferred out so that it is virtually only themselves they can rely on, they pull off a one in a million last ditch thrill a second chase ending in the epic gun kata battle of good vs evil… the question to be answered is if good is good enough?
I really enjoyed this classic Baldacci. Don’t pick it up expecting to read Shakespeare, this is Baldacci like you either know and have come to love – or are about to!
Gritty, pacey, and menacing!
Daylight is an action-packed, suspenseful thriller that sees FBI agent Atlee Pine working with Army CID investigator John Puller when cases from the past and present collide and bodies are piling up everywhere, suspects are numerous, coercion and corruption seem to be rampant, and danger lurks around every corner.
The prose is crisp and precise. The characters are driven, tenacious, and resilient. And the plot is an engrossing, fast-paced tale full of twists, turns, intrigue, action, greed, power, duplicity, violence, and murder.
Overall, Daylight is a riveting, sinister, edgy tale by Baldacci that highlights just how fine the line between right and wrong truly is and reminds us just how ruthless and cruel those with something to hide can often be.
Daylight by David Baldacci is an Atlee Pine thriller. Spoiler: this is the first Baldacci book I have read. I have listened to plenty of the, though, and loved every one. Atlee Pine is a thirty-five year old single FBI agent who is still looking for the kidnapper of her twin sister, 29 years before. She is joined in her search by her “secretary,” Carol Blum. They worth work in a one-agent office in Arizona but are now on the East coast pursuing the case of Mercy Pine. It is a complicated story, best left to the book. She wasn’t sure why this had happened although it was looking more and more like retribution for her young mother turning states’ evidence in the trial of a gangster. The gangster’s brother had apparently kidnapped Mercy but then the trail grows cold. They were about to apprehend Ito Viscenzo’s grandson, Tony, when things took a wrong turn. John Puller, an investigator for the military, also wanted him and it appeared Atlee had gotten in the middle of the bust, and Tony was once more a free man. Atlee didn’t even know if Ito was a live to question and now her one link was gone. Things went downhill from there.
Atlee is a single-minded FBI agent, resilient and clever, whose one goal was to put away the bad guys. Her secondary goal was to find out what had happened to her sister, her twin, all those years ago. She had plenty of help, but it was still slow going. Carol was always there with her, not an agent, but smarter than most. The clues were old. This crime family had a lot of other things going on so it was hard to get a straight answer or any answer, for that matter. The story is like reading through a maze. Right urn, left turn, go back, go forward, try again. Inching closer but never quite reaching the goal. Like all Baldacci’s books, it is compelling and convoluted, but one there, it all makes sense. Loved it. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free ARC of Daylight by Netgalley. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #daylight
The story surrounding the disappearance of Mercy Pine is finally getting clearer. Atlee, still in search of her sister, gets some important answers, but still has no clue where to find Mercy. As always she has Blum by her side to assist her. And, while being on the search for her sister, Atlee stumbles into a murder investigation involving high ranked members of the U.S. military.
I love the story of Atlee and Mercy Pine. There is always action and it’s a real page turner. Highly recommended series!

For many years now, FBI Agent Atlee Pine has been searching for a clue to the location of her sister who was kidnapped. When she gets a lead, it takes her into a situation that is fraught with danger. She lands in the middle of one of fellow agent John Puller’s investigation and arrest.
She finds her search is tied to Puller’s. She, too, is on the trail of Ito Vincenzo.
This book is filled with action, bad guys, crooked politicians, danger and a threat to the very country they serve. (Kind of like real life, eh?)
As are all of Mr. Baldacci’s books, this one is very well written, plotted and is exciting. (Do I stay awake and read or not? Will I remember anything if I do?) I really like Puller and Atlee. They seem like honest, competent agents. And I applaud Puller’s remark about social media. I don’t have Facebook or those other instant messaging platforms for that very reason. I like the action in the book, but the conspiracy stuff frightened me a little, given the current state of US politics I am very worried.
I want to thank NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for forwarding to me a copy of this very good book for me to read, enjoy and review.
I loved it so much. There are always things in one’s past that stay hidden forever, but there are resilience and faith that someone knows what truly transpired and how and most of all, why everything had to happen like that.
It’s darker, it touches some topics that can be triggering for certain people but it’s a great thriller series that has its own voice and wants to be heard.
Twists after twists, the story progresses from a criminal investigation to a personal interest, to discover what happened with her estranged twin sister and who was the real kidnapper. Atlee discovers secrets carefully kept for so many years and finding the truth is not always easy to digest, but I love how strong and human she is portrayed.
It’s captivating and so striking that I’ve read it in one go. I highly recommend it.
WWII historical fiction books are my favorite genre and the fact this is a dual timeline book makes it even more appealing. The characters are well developed and I liked all of the women except one. You will know who I am talking about once you read the book. There are so many emotions expressed throughout the pages…from PTSD and abuse to hope, love, bravery, and relationships. This is a really well researched book and the focus was on a different aspect of WWII than I have typically read. This is definitely a book to put on your to-be-read list.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoutre for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
