Vannetta Chapman writes dystopian fiction in such a way that even those who are not fans are falling in love with the genre. The Cyber Division series is quickly becoming a fan favorite. Chapman is the reason I felt like I was prepared for the pandemic we are experiencing. Her Remnant series really made me think about certain aspects of our lives and if I could survive. Her Cyber series has made me realize how much the internet really controls everything.
Nora is a force to be reckoned with and her partner, Randall, makes the duo unstoppable. You just know they will fix everything but cannot stop yourself from telling them to hurry.
This is the perfect story for those who don’t have a lot of time to devote to reading but want to escape for a bit. Start the series from the beginning and you won’t be disappointed.
Daybreak is the newest addition to the Cyber Division series that deals with cyber terrorism across the nation. If you haven’t read the other novellas in this series, you can still read Daybreak as a standalone. I personally enjoyed reading about Nora and Randall working to quell these various cyber attacks together from one story to the next. This novella took place in Seattle, with the main characters sent to determine if a threat was imminent. If you are looking for a series filled with stories focusing on threats that could truly occur in our society today, I definitely recommend the Cyber Division series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Awesome!
I must confess that I am a fan of mystery and suspense, but dystopian? Not so much. That genre is out of my comfort zone. Totally. However, author Vannetta Chapman writes dystopian/suspense in a way that blew my comfort zone right out of the water.
Daybreak drew me in from the very beginning. I loved the banter between Nora and Randall. They make a great team and complement each other so well. On the one hand you have Nora with her no nonsense attitude and on the other hand you have Randall with his nerdiness and amazing computer skills. Yup, they make a great team indeed.
Another part that drew me in was the details. It is evident that the author did a ton of research. The details were just enough to help the reader understand everything that was important to the story without being overwhelming or redundant.
But the most important piece that drew me in was the element of suspense. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire story, and it kept me guessing until the very end.
While my prior list of reading genres did not include any dystopian books, Vannetta Chapman’s Daybreak has caused me to rethink my list. This story of intrigue and suspense was so amazing that it has me anxiously awaiting the next story in the series.
I was given a copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.
Daybreak by Vannetta Chapman has Nora Brooks and Randall Goodwin of the Cyber Division Squad in Seattle, Washington. Unfortunately, they are not there to enjoy the beautiful April weather or Pike Place Market. Nora believes the murder of Miguel Garcia is linked to some suspicious activity. Cruise ships by the dozens are docked in Seattle and have been for the last week. Nora has Randall do a little online sleuthing while she tracks down some leads. They soon find themselves on the trail of a criminal who has a deadly agenda. Daybreak by Vannetta Chapman is the third novel in the Cyber Division series. It can be read as a standalone, but I like how this series of books works together (a complete picture). I dived into Daybreak and quickly finished it. I like the strong characters in this story. Nora is the serious one in the partnership and dedicated to her job. Randall loves computer code, is a snappy dresser, and loves his work as well. I enjoy Nora’s thoughts on Randall’s expensive wardrobe. They add a lightness to the story. Nora and Randall immediately dive into the investigation and follow the various leads. I found the story to be fast paced and intense. I found Daybreak to be well-written and engaging. The story was realistic and suspenseful. I look forward to reading the next Cyber Division novel. Daybreak is a dynamic story with cyber criminals, a smirking suspect, curious code, boat bedlam, and a mysterious murder.
