is was the second book that I read about the International Retrieval Organization by this author. The first book had dealt with witness protection, and I thought that this book might be similar. While there were overlapping characters, I am glad that I read book one (Weeping for a Night) first, but the plots were definitely different.
Lela struggles to believe in God due to past ways that she was treated. Jay has strong beliefs about the power of prayer and of staying close to God. But he has gotten distracted by life situations and forgets to follow up on his strong standards. These two characters learn to work together to follow God.
This is a romantic suspense book. I would say the emphasis is on solving the mystery. I anticipated certain parts, but several others were completely unexpected. I thought that the plot had many layers.
I read this book through KindleUnlimited, but also because I am a part of a CelebrateLit tour. This book intrigued me. All opinions are my own. I do plan on reading the next book in the series.
This Christian romantic suspense novel drew me in and kept me hooked. Agent Lela Ortiz, part of the International Retrieval Organization, becomes part of the team looking for Jay Vashon’s brother-in-law Charles Davenport. I instantly liked both of these characters. Jay’s constant prayers disturbs Lela, who is not a Christian.
This book combines the best parts of finding God, dealing with danger, and saving Jay’ brother-in-law. I loved getting to know Jay’s sister and family. The author took some twists and turns that kept me guessing. I loved the journey of Lela accepting God as her Savior. It shows how God sometimes places people in our path with His message of His redeeming love at the exact moment we need to receive it.
I also have to say the ending left me satisfied. I would love to read more books about the tInternational Retrieval Organization team members. So check out this book for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but it in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Ready to find a new author to lose yourself in? This one is for you. Day of Reckoning will suck you in and you’ll binge this author.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I do have to say I did a mild binge of her other books. You will find that our main character from this book comes from a different book. She has a mild role in the first book so you can read them out of order. Of course, I recommend you read them in order so you don’t have any little tells of things to come that you already know happen.
I enjoyed this romantic suspense book and look forward to reading more from this author.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. People always let her down. How could she relinquish control when she only felt safe if she held the reins?
Lela Ortiz is a private investigator with the International Retrieval Organization (IRO). Having been with them for several years, she is experienced and used to making split-second decisions. A kidnapping brings her together with Jay Vashon, brother in law to the victim. Even with his military experience, Lela will not let her guard down, and continues to lead the partnership.
This is a new author to me, and one that I certainly will be looking to read again. The action just keeps you guessing, attempting to understand if the signs and evidence will lead them to Chuck, the victim, before he is murdered. How does the method of communication with a child factor in? Can the team learn to trust God and each other?
This ARC was received through Harbourlight Books, Pelican Ventures, LLC and CelebrateLit. These impressions and comments are my own and were in no way solicited.
Day of Reckoning is part of the Stolen Lives series by Valerie Massey Goree. It is, also, the first book I have had the pleasure of reading by this author. Since I have not read the other books in the series, I feel that this one can be read as a stand alone. I thought this was a pretty good read. It had a lot that I enjoy in a book. This includes: suspense, romance, inspiration and characters that are easy to relate. I enjoyed the interactions between Jay and Lela. It was great getting to know them and see how they grow as individuals.
I am giving Day of Reckoning four stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romantic suspense. I look forward to reading more by Valerie Massey Goree in the future, as well as, the other books from her Stolen Lives series.
I received a copy of Day of Reckoning from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
This has been a very intriguing story. I loved Lela and her strong desire to help others. The organization she works for does amazing work on helping find people who have been kidnapped. I thought this was a brilliant part of the story where Lela shined at her job. Her instincts are spot on and she is very determined to follow leads. There is something from her past that has affected her but she tries to hide the scars that will never go away.
Jay is a good character and helps Lela find out why his brother-in-law Chuck has been kidnapped. As they start to investigate they find clues that may help them figure out why Chuck has been kidnapped. I liked the twists in the story and how the author has two characters working together that hide emotional scars. I think for me their budding friendship was refreshing and gave readers a little background on each of them. Jay is a little timid around Lela because he doesn’t want to get hurt. Lela doesn’t want to let Jay in because she has trust issues.
I loved how the author kept the story interesting by incorporating another mystery in the book. This part of the story is genius and allows the author to show her creativity. The way she ties the two mysteries together is very intriguing and kept me on my toes. Lela has her hands full with two investigations, a past she needs to deal with and a man she may be falling for. I loved the faith element in the book and liked how Jay shared Jesus with Lela. It gives her much to think about as she starts to allow God to help her heal from her past.
Get ready for action and suspense in this story where the kidnapped victim gives clues in video taped messages. The author included a child who has Fragile X Syndrome. I learned a little about this disorder as the author introduces us to Chuck’s son. The child is able to communicate by sign language and pictures. This will become a very important part of the story as video messages are sent to the family. Overall the story is well written and characters are developed enough that you become invested in them. If you are looking for a clean suspense story this one is for you.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Day of Reckoning by Valerie Goree
Day of Reckoning is a suspenseful good story. Introducing a recovery organization that specializes in securing freedom for kidnapped victims. The characters are interesting and well developed. The family dynamics play an important role in the book. Faith is highlighted. I enjoyed this book and appreciated the prayerful interactions. From the book: “First, I want to lay the groundwork. I’ve been a Christian a long time, but I’m not perfect. I’m a work in progress, therefore, please don’t use me as an example. I’m trying to be a follower of Christ. I get it right some days and stumble others. But I know this truth. Jesus is always ready to help me up.” I would recommend this book to Inspirational fiction fans, mystery readers, romance fans, suspense readers and anyone wanting to read a good story. This book was provided through Celebrate Lit, the publisher and author for my review. The thoughts expressed here are my own opinions.
