I loved this book. It is a much more involved plot than I thought it would be, but that is marvellous. Tamerlan and Marielle have escaped their home city of Jingen and moved to the next one – Xin. Unfortunately it is not any safer there, as the Dragon Jingen is still at large and bent on destroying everything. They eventually join up with someone whom they regarded as an enemy, but find that they must trust them. Marielle joins with another group also, but is inevitably drawn back to Tamerlan. They do all they can to try and make things right, but things don’t always go the way people want them to and the two find themselves in a really bad situation with life and death choices.
Jingen the dragon had completely destroyed Jingen City, Marielle was saved by Tamerlan and they escaped with Jhinn in his gondola to another city but were stopped from travelling further because the Queen Mer’s retribution boats were stopping anyone from travelling on the water. They were forced to stop in the city of Xin. Both Marielle and Tamerlan blamed themselves for unleashing the dragon and bringing ruin to so many lives, and both wanted to atone for their sins by killing the dragon. However Tamerlan told Marielle that she was not at fault and that it was he who had caused this when he had unleashed the heroes of legend who crossed over the bridge. Marielle could not decide whether Tamerlan was a demon or an angel and she had very strong feelings for him but justice was everything for her. Tamerlan on the other hand put her on a pedestal thinking she was the only good thing left in the crazy world. As the city of Xin prepared to celebrate the festival of Dawnspell, and the start to a new year, the dragon re-appears and chaos reigns once more with people fleeing for their lives, and refugees having no place to turn to. Tamerlan is forced to smoke his herbs once again and seek further help from the heroes, but these never do what is expected of them and Etienne does the same with terrible results which they would both have to see reversed if possible, but time cannot be reversed. Tamerlan was adamant that he would save the one currently paying the price for their magic use! Can they save the islands and restore peace by binding the dragon once again? This series is so exciting, the characters really charismatic and I am really immersed in the story and have to go on reading the next book!
what a terrific second book. I love the whimsy involved. Can not wait for the next one.
Dawnspell by Sarah K.L. Wilson is book two in her Bridge of Legends series. Book two picks up where book left off. Jingen has been destroyed by the dragon the city was named after. Thousands of lives lost, Tamerlan wounded, Etienne – a Lord Mythos without a city, and Marielle without a City Watch to call herself a member of. They are on the run. The dragon is on the loose and the survivors of the slaughter and destruction are fleeing in hopes of finding safety. Now, we continue forward to learn what happens next. The Bridge of Legends has been opened…and there is no closing it until things are made right.
Dawnspell reaches out from the beginning, grabs you, and doesn’t let up or let go as you read along to learn what happens next. Tamerlan set out with a noble goal in mind – to save his sister from being the Lady Sacrifice for the dragon. He and others thought that the rituals were just based on dusty old words, nothing actually based on fact. Tamerlan has been burned by his experience with the Legends. The shocking truth is that they are still with him. They “haunt” him waiting for their next opportunity. But things are changing. They’ve sought refuge at the next city, but the people at this neighboring city are less than welcoming.
I was honestly shocked at the differences in the city. The City Watch are cowards and instead of stopping trouble before it starts, they slink away and hide. There are undercurrents of danger and mystery as Etienne seems to be keeping strange company. The Lady Allegra, has her own agenda, but it remains hidden for the moment. Tamerlan has his secrets, but how long will they remain so? The Legends are pressuring him to use him. They say that they can help him, but they each have their own agendas. New characters are introduced and danger slinks in their shadows. I have to admit that I like and appreciate their no-nonsense demeanors.
This book is seriously full of twists, surprises, and a shocking turn of events near the end. I kept thinking and hoping that there would be a last minute intervention, but that’s not the case. I will admit that when the first book ended the raging question for me was…what happened to Tamerlan’s sister?? The author answers this question, but still leaves me with questions concerning her. I’m hopeful that I’ll get more answers in the third book. Things are getting really interesting and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you enjoyed the first book in this series then I seriously encourage you to pick this book and dive in.
Tamerlan, Marielle and Jhinn are making their way out of the remains of Jingen and end up in the City of Xin. Marielle tries to get help for Tamerlan and ends up getting help form the last place she would expect. All things come at a price however, and some are harder to pay for than others. So much is going on, and there are surprises and twists along the way. I can’t wait to see how things progress in book 3.
A fantastic read. Especially if you love Dragons. A fast paced read that has you on the edge of your seat. This is a fantastic storyline. And the Author makes the Characters come to life in this read. I can see the Characters vividly as the book goes, I definitely recommend

After finishing up the first in this new series I wasn’t sure where the story would go in Dawnspell or if I was even going to like direction. I like this book more than first one even though the scent explanations were still a little overdone for me.
I feel like there was more action in this book than the first too. There was more lore involved in this story. You get a different viewpoint on the legends as well, and I found myself enjoying the banter going on in Tamerlan’s head. He is determined to to set right what he previously set in motion, but it’s not as easy as he thinks it will especially with Lord Mythos now involved as well. Who knew Etienne had so many connections outside of Jingen.
Marielle plays a central role in this book which I am quite happy about. Her Scenting ability can still be distracting at times, but overall she is a strong character. I like to see how she is changing, but not at the same time. She is pulled in many directions during the chaos that is the aftermath of the destruction if Jingen.
I am very much looking forward to what happens to our heroes and heroine in the next. I would definitely recommend this book
TITLE: Marielle is freed —but so is the dragon! Now what?!
This episode opens with Tamerlan and Marielle fleeing the destroyed Jingen City with Jhinn in his gondola. Tamerlan is feeling deep guilt over: 1) his actions (in book 1) when he was under the influence of the Legends; and in 2) choosing to save Marielle rather than allowing her blood fed to the dragon to keep it bound for another year, as so many people had suffered and died when the dragon awoke. Now, the dragon Jingen is still free to wreak destruction on mankind. We see Lord Mythos returned in new, less royal role, as he, too, works to find a way to control the freed dragon. Can the dragon be stopped?
The fast-paced action in this book keeps the reader turning the page until the very end. Tamerlan and Marielle begin a tentative friendship that feels as if it may have potential to blossom into something more—if only circumstances would allow it! Ms. Wilson has created another clean epic fantasy that delights, excites and hooks readers into this enjoyable series. Perfect for teens—action, fantasy and thoughtfully drawn characters that are dealing with their own coming-of-age issues. However, I am a testament to the fact that it appeals to readers of all ages!
I received a free copy of this book. My review is voluntary and my own opinion. I have no financial relationship with either the author or publisher.
