A truly amazing emotional ride, what more can you expect from Elizabeth Hunter in the Elemental Legacy series. She started that emotional ride in Night’s Reckoning, and continued it throughout Dawn Caravan.
This installment in the Ben and Tenzin series, does not fail to deliver in any aspect, from the beginning all the way to the end. There is your usual Tenzin quips, and Ben’s usual responses, but that comes later in story, much later. That is due to Ben, and his issues, and that’s about all you can say without giving spoilers. Chloe and Gavin are also featured in this book in a minor role, which makes me think that there may be another book for them on the horizon (no pressure, just wishing). We also get to meet Sadia, who seems to have come out of her shell and is a little firecracker.
Most of the book is from Ben’s POV, and we get some crazy inner monologue going on, and we get some Tenzin POV too… she is… Tenzin!
Now, the other plot of the story is in regards to the Dawn Caravan itself. How Elizabeth Hunter came up with that idea, I have no idea, but it is fascinating, and well thought out. As usual, the new characters are well developed and intriguing, and Rene DuPont shows up, our persistent thief. There is a mystery to be solved and an item to be found, only for it to lead to the real reason the duo were hired.
If you have read the other books in the series, you will not be disappointed by this one. In fact, this one is a ride of emotions, both good and bad, realizations and coming to terms. I swear sometimes I think Tenzin is omniscient, especially when it comes to Ben. It is an exceptional work of art, that will leave you emotionally drained, but worth it. Hope you all enjoy this, like I did. Oh! and the epilogue left me wanting so much more.
I was expecting this to be another good story but this turned out to be a little more than good. I was so happy to meet so many new characters who may be seen again in the future. The new setting and the chance to get information on another way of life that is not often spoken about. There is always a bit of a history lesson as well as lessons on other cultures in every book that makes it even more than just a paranormal story. I love the adventure and the relationships between everyone, which we get more of here.
Everything has changed for Ben since his time on the China Sea. His eyes, diet, and new aversion to sunlight to name but a few. He finally realizes that the world he left behind hasn’t changed, only the way he sees things has changed. And though he wants to turn his back on hi s old life and the people who have always been there for him, there is one job still on the books that he has to complete.
Radu has a job with a mystery so interesting and profitable that Ben cannot refuse it. The only downside is that it puts him squarely in the path of Tenzin who has managed to avoid for the past two years.
I started off reading this and being mad at Ben for acting like he got kidnapped and dragged into the vampire world against his will when he pretty much pushed his way in. But it was not just him and I guess it was to be expected. This book got to me on an emotional level for much of it because it felt for a while like the family was falling apart. I was very happy to hear from some characters who had not been seen or heard for a long time, which made me hope for more of this in the future. I also found myself crying along the way, which tells you the writing was exceptional. This was the best one yet!
Audiobook review: Yay! Love Tenzin and Ben as a couple. Enjoyed this audiobook immensely. Plenty of mystery, action, and sexual tension to keep my wayward attention. The narrator did a fantastic job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene.
Dawn Caravan by Elizabeth Hunter
Elemental Legacy Series
I am voluntarily reviewing this ARC.
We meet Ben and Tenzin in the very first book of the Elemental series. Ben is the adopted human “nephew” of the infamous vampire, Giovanni Vecchio. He is just a boy when he enters this strange and fascinating world, and is introduced to a miriad of character’s who become his mentors and eventually, friends. Tenzin takes an immediate interest in Ben which is unusual because this ancient vampire is very exclusive in who she lets into her life. Ben becomes her pupil, her best friend, and once he’s grown, her business partner. He makes it abundantly clear, that although he loves the world that he is privileged to be a part of, he has no desire to ever become a vampire. When he is near fatally injured, Tenzin decides she can’t lose Ben and takes him to her sire, one of the most ancient vampires in existence. That leads us to this book, and his journey to understand his new life, make piece with it, forgive Tenzin, and move on with his business and new life. Ben and Tenzin have been in this complicated relationship filled with combustible chemistry and the purest of love, so this story was a long time coming and it was so fulfilling! Elizabeth Hunter facilitated what my heart needed for these two. Both are such beautiful character’s, so different but so honest and pure. I don’t think my heart could have waited another minute for their love to be explored. This was such a great book! This series is so full of mystery and romance and complex, beautiful characters. I’ve loved every one!
Finally we get the Ben and Tenzin story we’ve all been waiting for, and been mercilessly teased with for what seems like … forever!!!
For fans of the series, Elizabeth Hunter does not disappoint. Excellent story and characters that just pop off the page. If I had once teeny, tiny criticism it would be that I would have liked to know more of Ben’s struggle coming to terms with being a vampire (especially as he was turned against his will, regardless of the reasons for it happening) but not knowing this did not spoil the story for me. Great read, highly recommended, and will be waiting patiently (*sigh*) for next in the series.
Fun, heated, fast moving, and waiting for next installment.
Oh My Word!!!! Dawn Caravan is rolling with tension. You can cut the sexual tension with Tenzin’s sword. Your stomach will rumble with the fear of the unknown, the evil, the lies, the conflicts. You mind will blow the the romance, the almosts, the possibles, the intent, the love. the hate. The tension will feed your desire to read until you reach the end. And what and ending!!!!!!
Dawn Caravan gripped me from the beginning. It was to the point I was begging Ben to forgive Tenzin. I needed Ben to realize, to accept, to be happy that he lived. Dawn Caravan is not just a journey with Radu’s people. It isn’t just a job to find an icon. It is Benjamin’s journey to acceptance. It was beautiful. It was intense. It broke my heart and then healed it again. It was everything I expected from one of Elizabeth Hunter’s books and more.
Wow! What a great next installment to Ben and Tenzin’s story. I guess time and distance doesn’t heal all wounds. You must face them. I loved seeing the other members of the elemental world. Full of mystery, passion, and love. Can’t wait til the next book!
Happiness is a new book from Elizabeth Hunter.
Heaven is when it is a book that is about Ben and Tenzin.
There is something about these two that sucks so many of us in. We can’t stop reading once we get a new book about them. Because all feels! All the adventures! All the built up passion that needs to come out!
This series never disappoints me as a reader. There is some of everything that I love. You have amazing family with B and Gio always coming through for Ben. Friends that help Ben emerge into his new life. A mystery that is a page turner. New and exciting characters. And an amazing love story.
That last one has been going for quite some time and like all good love stories it isn’t easy and it is messy. When Ben ends up in over his head, it is amazing how Tenzin comes flying in to help.
The writing in this book was outstanding as we get all those little pops of how Tenzin makes “adult” choices and how much she is trying to change. The bests part is you can’t change everything at once and her old self peeks out in little ways. But goodness I just adore her and her quirks.
I couldn’t be more excited for you all to read this awesome story! I have been in quite a book funk during this whole lockdown saga but this was just the book I needed. I am always happy to have an Elemental Series book land in my hands. I would say this story had a slightly different underlying emotion to what I’ve come to know from this series. A little darker, a little broodier. Without giving away anything, it’s the continuation of the journey from Night’s Reckoning. We learn so much more of the nature of Ben and Tenzin in this story and it makes you feel like you’ve come home to a group of your best friends. There is the usual mystery element to the story, which is a real good one! There’s Gavin and Chloe and the wonderful Sadia. That kid is so cool. I donmt want to give anything away, I just want to say that it was a dream to fall back into this world, make sure you add it to your list!
Ben, oh Ben
Two years after he has been turned, Ben is still full of anger from having the choice taken away from him. And even though all his friends and most of his family are glad that he is still alive and let him know that they would have made the same decision to save him, he still feels conflicted about becoming the very thing he fought so hard against. And then there is Tenzin…
Thanks to Tenzin Ben has a very lenient sire, so after he has learned to manage his hunger, he is free to pursue his own interests. During all this time he has tried to distance himself from Tenzin, but of course he cannot resist a last treasure hunt that leads him all over Europe. As it turns out, that treasure hunt was only an audition for a much bigger job: finding and recovering an artifact of cultural significance and it doesn’t help that Tenzin is among the suspected thieves.
Once again Ben and Tenzin are not only searching for an invaluable treasure, but deeply embroiled in vampire politics. And the longer they work together, the more Ben comes to realize that he won’t be able to hold on to his grudge. But it’s not until things come to a head and Ben is faced with the possibility of having lost Tenzin forever that he recognizes that he can’t bear to be in the world without her…
I really love this book when we finally see Ben and Tenzin working out their not insubstantial differences and becoming the couple that the previous books hinted at. With the major stumbling block in their relationship out of the way, it almost felt like the conclusion to their story, so I am all the more glad that there is going to be one more book featuring two of my favorite characters of the Elemental world!
This is a must read! Ben and Tenzin are back. There was a bit of a separation after Night’s Reckoning, but Tenzin was always there. Of course she was. The duo is back to aid Radu in finding a lost treasure/symbol of his clan. Perfect timing because these two needed to be stuck together. Ben is struggling with forgiveness, Tenzin is finding the parts of herself that she denied to survive and together it makes for a lot of self discovery as well as acceptance. I loved seeing the vulnerability in Tenzin and seeing her as more than an ancient almost all seeing vampire. I felt her emotions and connected with her so much more. Ben was so stubborn and hanging on to thoughts he had of immortals and of himself. He broke my a heart a bit with the things he said to Tenzin. I also loved seeing him interact with Sadia as well as those in his circle. They all tell it like it is! I can’t wait for more of Brigid. Dawn Caravan is a wonderfully written book that allowed me to understand and connect more with characters I thought I knew already. The intricate plots and histories kept me engaged from the first page. I was given the opportunity to read a copy of this book.
