Vicki Carver had seen all the carnage from what appeared to be some kind of battle and just stopped long enough to see if the big man was alive or dead like the rest of them. That large broadsword in his hand had her keep her distance. Pitching a pebble or two at his face should arouse him if he was indeed still alive.Davis Brown was thoroughly exhausted, but he couldn’t ignore the small stones … stones pelting his face. If it was more malefactors to fight he’d just have to let them do him in. He was too tired to fight again so soon. To his surprise it was a woman―not just any woman―but a feisty vixen who was not only beautiful but could see the malefactors. That meant that she was either magical or one of them―a warrior―his mate….
Vicki had her own demons to battle and to be thrown into a mystical battle with Rembrandt’s warriors to save their world from being overrun by malefactors wasn’t anything she had planned for, much less this mate business. Who did he think he was anyway? But she couldn’t seem to resist the hot, sexy man that brought her to the compound….

‘Davis’ is the second book in the “Blood Brotherhood” series by Kathi S. Barton. If you’ve read the first book, ‘Rembrandt’, then you’ll remember that Davis was the first helper sent to Rembrandt by Hector. He was a police officer that had by dying and had agreed to help the man in black. Although, after he had his first taste of what it was he was helping with, Davis was sorry he had agreed. After a particularly bloody battle with the malefactors and completely exhausted, Davis was laying in the middle of the carnage resting. That’s where Vicki found him. She truly thought he was dead but wanted to check on him being as he was laying in the middle of all the dead creatures, so she was throwing pebbles at his head to see if he’d wake up or at least open his eyes. Naturally, Davis was astounded she could see the malefactors which meant she was either one of them or had the magic of some kind. Vicki was no pushover, so when Davis first berated her for being on the street at night and then told her she needed to go with him in order to be safe, personalities got loud. Just loud enough to attract more of the creatures and they had to defend themselves. You guessed it, Vicki is Davis’ mate. The battles are getting bigger, the number of creatures being created is doubling, maybe tripling, and the warriors are seriously starting to believe they’ll never win this battle. But as each hurtle appears, more magic seems to be bestowed on them. Rembrandt and Skyler now have wings and can fly when needed! After Vicki is taken to the compound and heals it’s decided they need to retrieve her mother who is in a wheelchair. So many things are developing and so many more coming to light at this point. Randall, Skyler’s step-brother, is verbally and physically abusive. As a matter of fact, he’s who put Skyler’s mom in the wheelchair. And speaking of Skyler’s mom, once she arrives at the compound, she hands Vicki a letter written in a foreign language, that no one else can read, from her birth mother. The shock of all shocks … Vicki is an Earth Faerie!! The group is getting tighter, the battles are becoming fiercer, and the magic is accommodating before they even know they need it or what it does. Hector is doing all he can to find a cure and stop the creatures while Ward and Dolin are slowly being driven crazy. Randall worked out a deal with Ward and Dolin to help them by going to the other realm. He’s turned into a monster even stronger than Master ever thought he could be. Leonard, aka Leo, is the next warrior sent by the man in black to help this group and according to Hector, he’s been badly hurt and doesn’t trust easily. I can’t wait to see what’s going to come with his story.
Davis has just started working with Remy and Skylar on taking care of the malefactors. But as their numbers grow the Brotherhood knows they will soon be outnumbered. For as many as they kill thousands, if not millions are being made each day. On the brink of death, Davis is getting a second chance to live thanks to the man in black, now it’s just a waiting game until the rest of the people arrive to the compound.
**”You can be my warrior, and I’ll be yours.”**
Vicki never thought helping a stranger would turn her already weird world more upside down than it already is. He brother, Randall is taking all the money she can bring in and there are now pale/greyish people walking around. When she learns she’s more than human and the woman she thought was her mother isn’t Vicki doesn’t have time to wallow in pity, because Benton, Ward, and Dolin are determined to rid the Earth of Remy, the Brotherhood, and Hector to take it over.
**”Yeah, I’m not sure I’d like to know what either of them consider girl talk. They might just be trying to figure out which of us to murder first.”**
I loved Davis and Vicki’s book. Vicki isn’t one to just accept things that are thrown at her. She fights back at all costs and will do anything to protect those she loves.
