An epic tale of adventure and intrigue, Daughter of the Empire is fantasy of the highest order by two of the most talented writers in the field today.Magic and murder engulf the realm of Kelewan. Fierce warlords ignite a bitter blood feud to enslave the empire of Tsuranuanni. While in the opulent Imperial courts, assassins and spy-master plot cunning and devious intrigues against the rightful … intrigues against the rightful heir. Now Mara, a young, untested Ruling lady, is called upon to lead her people in a heroic struggle for survival. But first she must rally an army of rebel warriors, form a pact with the alien cho-ja, and marry the son of a hated enemy. Only then can Mara face her most dangerous foe of all—in his own impregnable stronghold.

I love this trilogy – Daughter of the Empire, Servant of the Empire, and Mistress of the Empire. I have read these books at least five times. I only hope my own fantasy series – Wall of Doom, Wall of Peril, Wall of Glory, etc. measure up to them because Daughter of the Empire was my watermark for excellence.
Daughter of the Empire (and 2 following books) by Raymond Feist & Janny Wurts
This marvelous epic fantasy trilogy is full of political intrigue and subversive machinations set in an alternate medieval Japan where magic is real and the aliens landed a long time ago.
Feist & Wurts gave me one of my favorite characters of all time, Mara, who conquers an empire with the power of innovation, social acumen, and a trickster’s luck.
This trilogy is a frequent reread for me. I love it so much.
I had read several books by Janny Wurtz prior to her bringing out this series. I had also read several books by her husband, Raymond Feist. Both authors were good, but when they did this series together, it shined. I think this represented the best work of either one of them. I loved it. Well-developed characters, good plot, and good storytelling.
ONE OF THE BOOKS IN THE SERIES BASED IN THE WORLD OF MIDKEMIA. WITH WIZARDS AND WARRIORS AND STRANGERS INVADING FROM ANOTHER WORLD THAT SEEM LIKE ASIAN WARRIORS OF A PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN EMPIRE. THEY ARE INVADING WITH THE INTENTION OF CONQUERING ALL OF MIDKEMIA. A GREAT SERIES.
Feist turns everything he writes to gold.
A strong female main character coupled with a complete twist on the handling of magic and how a medieval fantasy world might be structured. Genius!
Just my cup of tea. Started me down the road to books by both authors all of which are good enough to read more than once.
I like this trilogy a lot more than any other books by the authors.
Alternate universe, spys, war and a bit of magic. What’s not to love.
I read this in paperback several years ago. I still find myself remembering several phrases and parts of the story line. This means it stayed with me.
Read this a long time ago, and remember thoroughly enjoying the deep and intricate machinations. I’m looking forward to reading it again and hope it lives up to my memory.
great read. very convoluted and takes careful reading to keep up.
A fun book to read.
All time favorite series
I collect all of the Feist series and grab any new additions!
excellent story development best of the 3 book series
I love this book! I’ve read it multiple times and enjoyed it every single time. The characters are three dimensional, even the ones you start out thinking of as cartoonish with absolutely no depth at all.
This book was fantastic!! It goes along well with all the other books from this Author. I have every book he has written.
This is my favorite series by Feist. Not on does it have a strong female lead character but it explores the Kelewan home world for the view point of that character. While it has elements of the Japanese culture it also has its own distinct overview.
Mara is my favorite strong, brilliant heroine. Everything Feist writes is wonderful, but this series is the best of the best. The fantasy setting in a oriental feudal kingdom is magic.
