An epic fantasy for those that like that sort of thing, I put this book on pause for a bit but found that I enjoyed it for the most part
The characters are developed over the course of the book some descriptions are heavy handed but gives you a better image of the world

Love the character developement. Kept me reading when I should have been sleeping. New story line not a twist on something already used ad nauseum.

An adventurous fantasy tale set into a vivid, complex world built with care and attention to details. I really enjoyed the premise and all the elements of the book, including the darker sides – they only added to the complexity of the book. Keelin as the main character is strong and draws attention of the reader to herself, staying true to her nature all the time, exuding the no-nonsense aura with confidence. I also enjoyed how the other characters were brought to life, shaped, and developed with each new situation. The story develops rapidly, twisting and turning, full of adventure and drama. Very good introduction to a new series, and this reading experience is motivating to continue with book 2.
Daughter of the Drackan by Kathrin Hutson is a wonderful story to read. This is book number one in this two book series that I am so hooked on and can not wait to read the next story. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and horror.

This is the most different book about dragons, or drackans as they are called here. One of the drackans takes a female child and, using her dragon venom, changes the child into a human drackan. She is shunned by most of the drackans except for one small white drackan who is equally shunned by the others. The human drackan has blackouts from which she always wakes up from beside the great lake in the High Hills where her home is located. In an attempt to find out what is causing the blackouts, she travels to the nearest human settlement where she becomes an assassin. This cliffhanger is definitely recommended for Paranormal readers.

Great new series!
This is a really great new series that fantasy lovers will enjoy reading. Right from the start we are hooked on this new and intriguing plot and a fantastic strong female main character. The story is thrilling, suspenseful and highly descriptive.
I can’t wait for the next book to see how this story develops.
This is the 3rd book I’ve read written by Kathrin Hutson; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

This is the story of Keelin a human girl raised in the mountains by Drakan. This is her story as she discovers the humans and ends up being drawn to them and trying to solve a mystery of her black outs. It was addicting and fun to read and watch Keelin grow into herself and find answers and experience life. She was a great character and I loved and hated a few others on the story. Just an interesting fun read.
I had a hard time getting into this book. Despite that…
The story is well-written, filled with mystery and dark. The story is about Keelin, a girl who was kidnapped and brought under the wings of an elder drackan. Keelin has a pull to find answers for the mysterious blackouts that she awakens from covered in blood. She has an encounter with a human who takes her to a human village and it sparks even more curiosity within her. I thought the author did a great job, but this just wasn’t for me. I still gave it 4 stars because the writing is good, the world-building is spot on and the characters are strong.
This wasn’t for me, but if you like fantasy and mystery tales that are dark, then you should give this a try.

Daughter of the Dracken
This was a unique story and it was quite good. I enjoyed the characters, their interactions were always real and believable. Nothing felt forced, or unnatural. I enjoyed the Author’s writing style. There’s a lot of action and is detailed. I could picture everything in my mind. This does end on a cliff hanger, but book two sounds like it’s going to be great!!!
Kidnapped as a human child Keelin was raised by dragons. As a young adult she is drawn to humans. She is a torn between the dracan and human world. Her journey leads her to find answers about her true heritage.
Thank you Booksprout and the author for a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
An Epic Tale with an Amazing Character
This original, well-written, adventure fantasy is the first installment of the “Gyenona’s Children” and it is excitingly thrilling. “Daughter of the Dracken” sweeps us along on Keelin’s journey of self-discovery, and her unusual fixation of the human world around her. Keelin was the young daughter of a Lord, who loved all things dracken. Her belief was so strong that she drew the attention of a female dracken, who took her as her fledgling. As Keelin grew her only memories are dracken. While still in the body of a human, Keelin is all dracken, strong, unapologetic, and she stays true to herself, even in the face of overwhelming odds. The scenes are epic, and the storyline’s plot is amazing and larger than life. This is not a journey for the faint of heart. There is no romance with the male characters that she encounters. No HEAs. This story will grab and hold your attention to the last page and make you wish that book 2 was already in your hands. This is a tale that you will not forget that you read, its haunting, in a good way. I highly recommend this tale.

Keelin is kidnapped as a human baby and becomes a Drackan fledgling. She searches for answers to her blackouts in the human world. Strong female character, suspense, mystery, action packed with great world building will grab your attention and keep it. Looking forward to the next book and hopefully more!

Her first memory was horrible pain…
This book contains the promise of an epic series. The plot is carefully developed with tidbits of backstory along the way to flesh it out. Keelin’s beginning, her present, and her future carry the potential for many future books. The storyline toggles between the Dracken and human worlds with Keelin spiraling in between. The battle scenes are frequent and bloody and the peaceful scenes are few and far between but I found myself immersed in the story from the first page. I received an advance copy but my review is voluntary and honest. Kathrin Hutson has started this series with a masterpiece!
This is the first of a two book series, and actually this book is a 5+ star book. Just be warned the very last chapter of book 2 throws everything in the toilet and completely ruins an awesome series.
The dark fantasy in this book was beautifully written and I connected with the MC Keelin right away and every chapter I loved this character even more. You actually felt her emotions at times and that really added to tention of the story. Throughout all of book 1 and book 2 until the last chapter Kellin grows as a better person and learns who she is and how to interact with people, even people she grew up being told to hate.
I really, really loved this book and I am so MAD at the last chapter and epilog of book 2. I gave book 1 three stars as it should not be totally punished for the end of the series in the next book. However I did waste a lot of time and resources reading this book only to be made to feel sick at the end of the series. This entire book and all the growth of the MC was a waste.
I couldn’t get into the book but that was mostly my preferences and I am sure many will love it. The book is full of epic world building with Keelin, named by her guardian, taken from her bed by a drackan and weaned into a part human/part drackan fledgling. The real story starts with Keelin having grown up with the drackan and recently suffering from blackouts when she wakes covered in blood. She is torn between the drakan and human worlds as she tries to find her place and answers to her questions.
I would say this an epic dark fantasy with a strong mystery storyline and it would be perfect for followers of that genre.

Keelin is not drackan, yet not human. Stolen away as a mere child, Keelin know only the drackan. Yet something about the humans draws Keelin to a settlement, over and over… The sense of the almost familiar drives Keelin to distraction… As do her blackouts…. From which she awakens covered in blood…
Riveting.. A haunting tale of a young woman caught up in the machinations of forces beyond her ken… Yet her determination and drive to forge her own destiny shines brightly throughout.
