Yep, it’s a regular Tuesday. When you kill a demon there are consequences.Centuries-old witch, tattoo artist, half-demon… none of those titles are going to save me this time. The only way I’m going to get out of my death sentence is to take down the biggest, baddest demon there is… … to take down the biggest, baddest demon there is… My father.
And I thought being burned at the stake was bad…

great book, I love her writing and her characters. Great second book in the Rogue series, full of action and angst. Looking forward to book 3.
First off, I love Annie Anderson. Second, I love Max. This is the second book in this series and they must be read in order. Max is in trouble again. The council has passed judgement however there is a way to escape this death sentence. All she has to do is kill her father. A man she has never even meet and a demon. She could say no but that doesn’t mean that they will leave her alone, the council or her father. Things are about to get interesting. As if that wasn’t enough there is Ian. This book takes you on one wild ride. Max must decide who she can trust, who she can live without, and who to let help her. Max’s life has never been easy but this maybe as bad as it has ever been for her. She is a rogue half witch, half demon and they only people looking out for her and people she doesn’t want to get hurt. She must sacrifice to make sure they stay safe. I can’t put this book down and I need the next one NOW!!!. I love Max so much. She is such a strong resilient woman. I wish she could be my friend in real life. In fact I wish a lot of Annie characters could be my friends in real life. Annie is a fantastic author and I highly recommend not only this book but all her books. Now good read them right now. Congrats on another fantastic book Annie.
Daughter of Souls and Silence was amazing! I’ve been waiting for another Maxima story. She’s such an amazing character. She’s strong, loyal and a kind hearted individual with a great attitude. Maxima also kicks butt and I love that about her. In this book she finds herself in quite the predicament. She most choose between her own life or the life of her father. Maybe there’s an option C?
I seriously devoured the pages of this book. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen. If you love well written paranormal stories with a strong female heroine I would definitely recommend this book.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Okay I think this one just might be better then book one. We pick up right where it ended with her having to go before the council for killing Micah. Well of course she has to change things to go her way but the council has a hidden agenda that includes her father. Given a task she cannot stand she has to figure out a way to make everyone happy while still being true to herself. Great world building and so full of surprises it will really keep you guessing. If you like fantasy I bet you will like this one. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
4.5 Cranky Stars
I wish I could be like Max. Stare danger in the face, laugh, snap my fingers and wait for the inevitable explosion of mayhem.
Max is trying to make sense of her life. She feels that she should leave town and start somewhere new. Everyone seems to be keeping secrets and she’s not sure where to turn. When she is tasked with killing her father and saving her estranged mother, she remains defiant till the bitter end. Amidst all this she is still struggling with her feelings about Ian. Aiden acts like he’d rather see her dead then with his brother. She learns a secret that has been long kept and now she really feels out of sorts.
I’ve said it before I love Maxima. She has a heart under all that rough exterior. She just needs someone to love her and while she acts like she doesn’t deep down she is lonely. I wanted to see more of Ian dang it! I know this is Max’s story, but I just love his strength and well him in general. He is going through a transition as and I hope it works out in the next book. I like that Max is faced with some life altering decisions. It gave the story some more depth. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book!! I know everything Annie Anderson writes will be a journey full of action and heart. I have a lady crush on Maxima and Annie! I can’t wait to see where the next adventure takes us.
Daughter of Souls and Silence is an action packed page turning read that had me captivated from page one. A great story line and strong heroine make this a must read. This is my first book by this author and I loved it so I’m headed off to get book one so I can catch up on this amazing series.
Max is a fabulous character, the kind of sassy, smart and kickass persona I love to read about! A one of a kind hybrid with immense powers. Rogue since being banished from her family. Now the Council of all supernaturals need her help but she’s not having any of it no matter what they do to her. I really like her style! And someone is positively manic over the relic knife she has, the one empowered by the souls that it reaps, and will do anything to get their hands on it. A really mesmerizing story that sadly ends in a little cliffhanger.

It is just so stinking hard for me to review Annie Anderson’s books! I always feel like I have been drained emotionally after reading them! But, that is one reason that I absolutely, positively love to read them!
Our heroine, Maxima (better known as Max) has been called before the Council for killing a demon. First of all, Max didn’t even know there was such a thing as the Council. And, secondly, didn’t Micah deserve to die? To top it off, she used a forbidden bone blade to do it and everybody is after that blade.
Max is a Rogue Ethereal, half Witch and half Demon, and even though she is over 400 years old, she still has issues with both her parents. Instead of being able to just live her life as a tattoo artist, she keeps being drawn into battles with otherworldly creatures that she didn’t even know existed.
Add in the complication of a possible lover in Ian, his brother Aiden (who really doesn’t want their relationship to happen) and loads of demons from Hell, and you just have another typical day in her life. Oh, and don’t forget her b***h of a Mother, her Demon of a father, and a sister that she hasn’t seen in years (just to complicate things!).
The description of the Demonic Corax is truly horrifying and I will probably never feel comfortable when I see a crow after reading this book. And, this cover? AMAZING! I just love it! I would buy the book just for the cover!
Two quotes that really stick with me:
“Judgment comes to all who enter.”
“You should know, poppet, even death doesn’t break a contract.”
Ms. Anderson has a wonderful writing style, with just the right mixture of action, humor bordering on snarkiness, and foul-mouthed heroines that make me keep coming back for more. Each of her characters deserve a book of their own and I hope that she continues writing for a long, long time! Now, I need a glass of wine to relax after this fast-paced ride along with Max and her friends!
Max is awesome. I love strong female characters. She has the attention of brothers Aiden, and Ian, and then there’s Stryker.

ONE SPICY MIXED-UP ADVENTURE!!!
Man, oh man! Talk about mixed company. This is one action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, nailbiting, heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, page turning bombshell that’s as riveting as it is captivating. No holds barred, no pulling punches, just one kick-ass female who doesn’t take anything from anyone. With so many twists, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner make for one phenomenal experience. You get it all, a whirlwind of emotions and events that really brings this treasure to life flawlessly. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. Remarkable job Annie, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
Yes Max is called up before the elders and the only friendly face is her grandmother Bernadette. But she’s still sentenced to death for killing a demon. There is a way out…her father has killed his father and brother. The council has declared if she kills her father ( the most bad ass demon there is) she lives and takes Bernadette’s place on the council. This book is a fast beat story that you don’t want to miss.
I received a free copy of this book and have chosen to review it.
Eeek! I really enjoyed this book. From the very first page, I was hooked. It was even better than the first book in this series. It was unique and full of so much action and drama. I would definitely recommend this series.
I freaking love Max, she’s so strong, she manages to endure some humour into everything no matter how bleak things seem to be and she loves so strongly. The books in this series are fantastic, full of action and emotions. Ive read both the ebook and audiobook, and I love the narrator, I highly recommend this book and this series and I can’t wait to read the next book!
Adds surprises to Max’s already powerful bag of tricks
Max, a witch of unusual power, has only slightly come to grips with the events from Woman of Blood and Bone. As the story progresses she is voluntold to assassinate her father, her past still repeats itself, and along the way more secrets surrounding her and everyone coming to light could be her final curtain call. Annie Anderson’s second installment of her Rogue Ethereals series continues to provide the thrills and adds a few more characters and surprises to Max’s already powerful bag of tricks. I will be reading the next book and eagerly await the rest of the series.
Loved this book – more action than book 1, but full of more Max and that is the best part of all. Page turner all the way. I just can’t get enough of the story and stayed up way to late finishing the book. Just when I think I have it figured out, Annie throws something in there to surprise me. You won’t be disappointed with this series. Thanks for another great one Annie!
This is the second book in a series about a witch who is banned by her own people at the age of 14 and has to find out for herself what her powers are.
In the first part, Maxima (Max) killed a demon. Max is the only living creature who has a weapon to kill demons. Then she is asked by the Council to kill her father, also a demon, because of all the bad that he did, including the murder of his father and his brother. At first Max refuses until her friends and herself are being chased by a demon. When her sister threatens to become a victim, she goes after the demon.
Again a lot of action and unexpected turns that make this part very catchy. As a reader you get to see more and more of the background of Max and her lived life. Never trained as a witch, she has taught herself everything and finds out that she can do more than other witches. That she has more powers and this is what she uses to make the world a safer place for others
I recommend everyone to read these books if you like the paranormal world with all its special creatures, if you like tension and like to be misled. Nothing is predictable in this story
Book two in this series starts up right where book one left off. The council confronts Maxima on the death of the incubus and tasks her with an impossible request. She must find and kill her father. Max, a long suffering Rogue witch/demon hybrid must figure confront her estranged family to uncover secrets, appease a non forgiving council and try and salvage her friendships. A harrowing task. This story is just as good if not better than the first one. I could not put this book down.
Overall rating: 4.8
There is nothing better than picking up a book and being willingly kept in the dark while still being blindsided by plot twists! Everyone loves that one great read that just holds you captive page by page and of course this book proudly wears that title. But it’s not just this book! This is book 2 of a series and I give huge kudos to this author for her brilliant writing style and flair. From the mysterious possible mates to the love me-hate me elusive parents to the fear inducing demons clawing to get to grandma, what else could these poor characters go through? And yet, there is more to come, and there I will be, stalking yet another release! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
I really super enjoyed this story. The characters were so well developed that it seamlessly weave its tale with great detail and depth kept me totally engaged throughout the entire book.
What an incredible adventure! Once again, Anderson delivers a fast-paced, non-stop thrill ride! From the very beginning we are thrust back into the chaos that is Max’s current situation. The mystery and the action is riveting. I found myself tearing through the pages.
Anderson writes the most amazing female characters. Max’s strength and courage is mesmerizing. The pain of abandonment and isolation is apparent but the woman that Max has grown into is inspiring.
Not only is the storyline gripping and the characters spectacular, but the writing is utterly captivating. Anderson brings you into her world with beautiful words and vivid imagery.
I love this journey. My pulse was racing and my heart was in my stomach. I’m not sure which direction Anderson is going in but I am loving the ride. While we are left with some answers, we are still searching for many more. I’m eager to see what is in store for Max and the rest of the gang.
