A dead body.A missing daughter.A silver blade. All the clues point to one person: Me.My name is Evangeline, and I¿m a retired assassin who wants nothing to do with the underworld. But an edict from a Demonic Lord forces me to return to the man and the life I left behind.I have seven days to prove my innocence.Whoever set me up is going to die.
Great action-packed, passion-filled story! A winning combination of a strong, snarky heroine, a to-die-for leading man, a great mystery to solve and a preponderance of paranormals in many shapes and forms make this one great read. There’s a wonderful cast of supporting characters and it’s a great introduction to the world of The Dark Provenance, an organization of Nephalim that will have our MCs Eve and Xia as their leaders. The book is extremely well written and edited and it’s most definitely a series I look forward to reading and hope that the author plans on giving it a long life.
Just what i needed, a dark paranormal sexy sexy book. Chemistry off the charts, Evangeline is muy type of chick…. definitely need the next book
This book was amazeballs!! This is the type of story that draws me in when I am reading paranormal. It had all the elements I need for a great story. This book had some wonderful plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. I did not want this story to end!
Where to start as I am crushed the book had to end. This was a fantastic read right from the start, it pulled me in and kept me there until I read the very last page. Amazing character building and visualization it’s as if your watching instead of reading.. Would recommend this book and this Author to anyone that wants to escape to another world
Amazing book was truly hard to put down, but when did I got lost in the story feeling I was actually there. Looking forward to the next book. I loved it.
Evangeline is a Fallen Angel that has retires from her old job. Unfortunately she’s summoned by a Demon Lord. The messenger is the one man she loves, but hates with a passion, Xai. Accused of murder, can she and Xai clear her name in time? Loved this book. Looking forward to book two.
Ok so I had mixed feelings about this book. But for the most part I enjoyed it, greatly. The twist and turns it took kept me interested. I really didn’t enjoy Eve’s “whininess” that much when it came to Xai and his treatment of her, but over all I did like how self sufficient she was. I am glad that being a paranormal book the author still made most of it believable.
This was a great paranormal read. Eve was an awesome female lead, she was strong and capable and could take care of herself. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more.
I have not read anything by this author before and let me tell you she wowed me beyond belief. This is a story about fallen angels and the deeds they have done and will do to prove their innocents. It is dark, dangerous, thrilling, exciting, with assassins, demons, and sexy with wonderful characters and a thrilling action packed plot that keeps you invested until the end. Eve is strong, caring and exciting, she is trying to keep it on the download, she just wants a normal life and put her assassin ways behind her. Someone doesn’t want that and is doing everything they can to pin her for a murder she didn’t commit. Now she has ex number of days to prove she is innocent. Xai is a dream with his sexier than thou self. He loves dishing out pain to those he feels deserves it. Really he is an emotional person and uses his dishing out as a way to hide behind it. When they called for bad boys he raced to the head of the line and took all they could give him which makes him one exciting sexy man. He and Eve have been at each other’s throats for thousands of years but love each other they just can’t get along and kind of go together like oil and water, grass and weeds, flies and people…you get my meaning. One thing they have is chemistry wow it is hot, deep and strong and burns up the pages.
The demon’s daughter comes up murdered and Eve’s knife is found at the scene Xai knows it can’t be true. Now he is on the hunt along with Eve to find the true killer. Being so close working together old feeling come to a head, can they get over the past pains and hurt or will they forever be at odds?
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this story from the plot, mystery to the characters. It was a very exciting thrilling ride one that I plan to read again. If you are looking for a Paranormal that is dark, dangerous, demanding, with villains, demons, angels that are ruthless, with twists and turns that will keep you guessing and romance that is hot, exciting and thrilling this is the book for you. It was a story I couldn’t put down and read at one setting. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Daughter of Death is an amazingly full story of paranormal romance.I couldn’t put this book down! I loved the roller coaster ride that brought this book to life for me.
The main characters in this story were so real I fell in love with them. I loved that Eve is a strong woman who could handle her own. She had mad fighting skills and a heart of gold.
Xai was a character that just made me have that love hate relationship with. All I know is that that all the characters in this story were written so well I felt like I knew them all.
Daughter of Death is full of so many elements it was like being right there in the story. Things between Xai and Eve, will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more as soon as you begin this book. I couldn’t get enough of this story.
I truly love books that have female main characters who are strong, compassionate, sexy and can totally kick A$$!!! And this book truly delivers, the first in its series, it’s action packed and has a main male character Xai who is sex on a stick!!! You have demons, angels, sexy and and a whole lot of fun!! Can’t wait to read the next book in this fantastic series!!
I’ve never read this author before and I definitely have been missing something. Her world building and characters and stories are excellent. I was drawn in from the beginning and oh I really LOVED Evangeline. Her strength and spunkiness and tenacity and plus she’s beautiful and badass! Xai…it took me a little bit to like the guy. He’s betrayed her before. They’ve got some history and its wrecked her and broken her in ways she never felt 100% whole and never would again. He’s one of those guys you love and hate but when they hurt you….you cant help but go back and fall back into that hole with. I really had a love/hate with that guy. He had his reasons though. Eve didnt understand for awhile and they still have their issues but it ended well for them. I dont want to give away spoilers but wow this was just a great and very involving book. Kept me on the edge! This is book 2 but I didnt feel lost. First book has different characters it seems so I think thats why it worked out.
Phenomenal! This story worked its way into my heart and left me hungry for more! I absolutely loved it! That characters were exciting and entertaining! I couldn’t help but fall in love with them and their sexy crazy chemistry.
I enjoyed the originality of the story with all different types of angels and demons. The story was fun and had my heart racing till the very end.
I highly recommend this to lovers of PNR!
I have another book boyfriend thanks to Lexi! Xai is an angel who is hot but needs to learn some communication skills, I won’t hold it against him though! Our heroine Eve is a lovesick fool for Xai, but she is also the daughter of Death, literally, and a kick butt (retired) assassin. Eve and Xai’s way of flirting is bloody entertaining, sometimes it’s more bloody than others. I loved this adventure into a new world filled with angels and demons. I have a ton of new characters that I can’t wait to read about. Oh and before I forget, I licked Tax and Remy they’re mine!
If you were sent to Earth to save humankind from a war, how would you do it? Would you know what to do? What about the pressure of having all of that weight on your shoulders? For Evangeline, the mission is unclear from the start. What she fell for was love, love of an angel…a manipulative, backstabbing, dishonest and cryptic angel. Foss creates an intriguing and creative story filled with action, romance and mystery.
Evangeline is an angel who fell to Earth for one purpose…and his name is Xai, the son of Chaos. As a bar owner—and former assassin, her reputation and retirement still harbor resentment among some. When a Demonic Lord summons her regarding the death of his daughter, she has no idea that she is in serious danger…and not just her heart upon seeing the only man who has ever gotten close enough to shatter it. Xai comes bearing bad news…one of her blades was found by ashes that reek of the Demonic Lord’s daughter. With Xai’s assistance, she has been given the opportunity to amend the frame job and find out what is really going on. It could be the start of a war brewing and the world, oblivious to the shift, may be doomed to the underworld’s bidding forever.
Foss has a superb story-line and wonderful character development in this installment. The main characters are snarky, mysterious, humorous, and most importantly—immortal. The pace is very fast and provides a sense of thrill and urgency to the story.
A copy of this book was provided to Turning Another Page by IndieSage PR, but this in no way affects our honest opinion of the book or the review that has been written. We provide a five-star rating for Daughter of Death by Lexi C. Foss.
This book is a PNR, it has a strong female lead, physically and mentally. This story is a stand alone with incredible first and secondary characters, I can easily see the author one day changing it into a series. It does have a darker overtone with a dash of comedy relief throughout.
We first meet Eve in your everyday-average-human setting talking to her best friend… well that’s where the average stops. Then cue the chaos, and in walks Xai. This guy, everyone hates to love, or is it loves to hate. There’s no denying the author breathed life into these people, but it’s the character development, with a fantastic storyline, that’s really out of this world.
Get ready to expect the unexpected, nothing in this book is what you think, I think. What you can expect is, it does get very hot. 😉
What can I say? I loved this book, no I floved this book. Daughter of Death brought back the urban fantasy genre for me! So many books claim to be UF, but are just washed out versions of it. Daughter of Death has everything my fantasy and paranormal little heart craves. Paranormal beings, kickass characters, exploding love, action, and mystery.
Eve is who I want to be when I grow up. She’s a fierce warrior but with love and humanity flowing through her. Xai is everything I hate. A warrior, a arrogant asshole. Yet I fell so far in love with him. Lexi C. Foss weaves a tale with intriguing characters, hilarious banter, and some awesome action. The way she makes you simultaneously hate and love Xai, as Eve does, is so frustratingly perfect. One second I’m on the wagon of hate, the next he has me swooning.
This book obviously blew me away and made me hope that UF is making a comeback. This book was so captivating that I couldn’t set it down for even a second. The love between Eve and Xai is a confusingly beautiful love. One that makes you wonder why Eve puts up with him while also wondering where you can find a Xai of your own. I’m excited to read more of Lexi C. Foss and have my fingers crossed that I’ll see more of Eve and Xai!
I am sooo loving this collection of Bad Girls
If you are looking for a strong kick @$$ heroine look no further than heavens own fallen -Evangeline
And if you like your men sexy with just a touch of darkness than Xai is definitely your demonic angel – though I am still on the fence about kicking his rear side – He needs to learn to communicate something fierce
The world Foss built was so distinctive and remarkable she brought forth and interwove so many new and unique ideas for her characters – it was delightful to have a new flavor of
Angel vs Demon vs a whole lot more – No, I am not telling you
The plot line was compelling and kept me engrossed and lost from the opening to the closing – I seriously read this one without stopping
The chemistry between Eve and Xai is potent if not explosive – as a reader I could feel their clashing emotions -their deep seeded need of one another versus the “correct” choices they each had to make
The supporting cast is out of this world – and I do mean that literally
I could go on for days but trust me – You need to one click this one – I promise you an adventure of a lifetime
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.
I enjoy books in this genre and thought I would really enjoy an urban fantasy story with a strong heroine at the helm. Well, that’s not quite what this is. I grew tired and even irritated at the amount of times I had to listen to her inner monologue discussing her relationship with Xai. It was constant – she loved him; she hated him; he walked all over her; she deserved his poor treatment; okay, let’s have sex; can I trust you? and repeat. At times their relationship seemed to be on the verge of being abusive, yet she still came back – every time. This indecisive behavior for a strong heroine and her inability to set some boundaries quickly grew very tiresome [or at the very least stand up for herself or demand some answers from him]. And part of the problem for me was that I really didn’t like Xai either.
The narrator, Sarah Puckett, carried most of the water for this narration and she did a great job. She did various voices for the characters and narrated at a good pace. I have to confess that after listening to Sarah’s narration for an hour or two to suddenly hear a male narrator [Tristan Hunt] was a bit jolting. I cannot disparage his narration – as he did a good job – but nonetheless, both times I heard him start narrating, it put me off the story a bit as I had gotten used to listening to a female voice [Sarah Puckett].
This audiobook had you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story. The characters were great and memorable. Could really feel the angst and pull between the H/h. This story was very unpredictable, which made it so enthralling. I am a huge fan of the narrator, Sarah Puckett. As for the male narrator, Tristan Hunt, I loved his voice but could have listened to it a lot more than the little it appeared in the story. Look forward to more from all involved.
