Calvin finally has a second chance with the star who features in his dreams, but does she want him, or his billions? Layla was destined to be a star, but when her agent dumps her and she’s evicted from her apartment, she’s forced to admit she doesn’t have what it takes to make it in Hollywood. Desperate for money, she goes back to her home town and applies for the one job that nobody else wants … and applies for the one job that nobody else wants – personal assistant to Calvin Montgomery.
Calvin may be a billionaire business mogul now, but in Sweet Bay, he’s still considered nothing but a no-good Montgomery, especially when he decides to build a tourist resort in the small, secluded, seaside town that wants to stay off the map.
Despite her lack of qualifications, Calvin can’t say no to the girl he had a crush on ever since he was a poor, bullied teen and she was the brightest star in Sweet Bay, even though he doesn’t think she could ever return his feelings.
Working for the guy she used to bully is the ultimate humiliation to Layla, and every time her competence is challenged, her ego takes another hit. But she can’t help falling for her boss when she realizes he’s a lot more than just brilliant, handsome, and wealthy.
Calvin soon realizes Layla just might be the key to convincing Sweet Bay to embrace his resort. But can she convince him she sees more in him than dollar signs?

Rachel’s new release is a fun twist on enemies to lovers. The old high school nerd, who crushed on the pretty, popular girl is now that pretty girl’s boss! But the years have changed them both. Maybe it’s time their relationship changed as well. You can check out my video review at https://youtu.be/kJ9iRJ4G2Ow
Second Chances
Layla was the girl that was in the popular crowd in high school and wanted to become an actress, so she moved to Hollywood did some but parts but nothing big, now she was having to come home temporarily to make some money. Calvin was the smart boy but from the wrong side of town, always thought of as no good. Now he was a billionaire opening a resort in his hometown against some people. Layla comes to work for him
I have a weak spot for billionaire stories, no matter what the heat level. Rachel Taylor’s Dating Her Billionaire Boss (Sweet Bay Billionaires) is a fun one. Her stars are interesting. Layla, the former High School queen who left for Hollywood stardom at 18 only to find herself a “D list” wannabe with no job prospects 12 years later, and Calvin the former low class outcast from a no-class family now a billionaire who always had a crush on Layla and hires her on her return to town despite her total lack of skills. Of course both of them prove to be more than what they appear to be on first glance, and to have unexpected hidden reserves. Yes, there’s a guaranteed HEA here but the book is also fun because of how the characters grow and develop over the course of its pages. I wasn’t sure of Layla on page 1 but by the end she’d become a gal I’d love to have as my friend. Calvin is still a work-in-progress with a bit of a “chip on his shoulder” despite his wealth by the end but he’s well on his way and has proven to be just what Layla needed, and thanks to her to be more than he ever expected of himself. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises – the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
Layla and Calvin’s story is full of twists and turns which makes it so interesting to read.
Rachel Taylor is an amazing writer as is proven in this book.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
Calvin and Layla are great characters and this is a good start to this series. Calvin has finally risen above his family’s reputation. The problem is, the town doesn’t want to give him a break. He is one of the horrible Montgomery’s and no matter how much money he has or how he has changed, they still think of him as trash. Layla is about to be evicted, her agent has dropped her and she has no money. The only place to go is home. The only jobs available in her town is the new resort that is owned by Calvin. The boy she was cruel to in high school. Will he give her a chance? She really has no skills. Calvin has loved Layla forever and he hasn’t seen her in years, but the feeling is still there. Now she wants a job as his assistant and she has no qualifications. He is only interested in his profit, not giving the locals any benefits, but he has to do something or the resort will go under. Can he keep Layla and the resort?
OMG! I couldn’t put down. EVERYTHING Caltivated me! I could totally relate. Calvin and Layla are dealing with more issues than just Boss/employee. There’s family and the small town. Great start to a new series. I want to know more about them all and their families.
This was clean read, but just okay in my opinion. It felt odd to me that Layla who didn’t have a clue how to do any of things for the job she was tasked with somehow saved the day with the resort. She was the bully in high school, but now she somehow is the “perfect” woman who shows compassion and the hero who she bullied in high school is a cynical jerk. I don’t know. It just didn’t fit to me. She was too perfect. Wish the they’d been a little more balanced out.
Layla and Calvin grew up in the same town, but while she was the beauty queen, he was the kid on the wrong side of the tracks.
Calvin struggled to have a different future from his parents and succeeded, becoming a young billionaire, while Layla followed her dream of being an actress, but that didn’t work out very well.
When the two return to Sweet Bay, Calvin as a successful billionaire and Layla as an unsuccessful actress, fate seems to give them a chance to get to know each other and succeed in their lives.
Layla is going to work for Calvin, but she has no idea what she’s doing. He then goes on to show her about the job, and is surprised by the ideas she puts into his business. However, some people in the city still doesn’t accept the new Calvin, but with Layla’s help and support, his business can thrive.
The story is full of twists and turns and I loved it.
I highly recommend the reading.
