Is love just something you find in books? Six months ago, writer and bookstore owner Maddie Hanson was left at the altar. Since then, she’s had zero interest in romance—despite the fact that she runs a book club full of sexy eligible bachelors. But when her latest novel is panned by an anonymous blogger who goes by the name Silver Fox—and who accuses her of knowing nothing about passion—she … passion—she decides to prove her nemesis wrong by seeking a romance hero in real life . . .
There’s the smoldering rock musician, the bookish college professor, and her competitive childhood friend who may want to steal her bookstore more than her heart. Even Silver Fox is getting in on the action, sending Maddie alarmingly—and intoxicatingly—flirtatious emails. And that’s not all. Her ex wants her back.
Now Maddie is about to discover that like any good story, life has twists and turns, and love can happen when you least expect it—with the person you least expect . .

This was a sweet and enjoyable story. Mary Ann Marlowe is a new author to me, and I found I liked her writing style. It flowed well, was easy to read, and kept the reader engaged and entertained.
The story certainly had a lot of promise, and to a large extent, it was well executed. The characters were well developed, even those more secondary to the story, and it was easy to become invested in the small cast of main players. The dialogue was often witty, and Maddie’s verbal jousting with the Silver Fox often brought on a smile.
The only real negative I have is that it took way too long for Maddie to discover who was Mr Right for her. I love a slow burn, but Maddie’s stubbornness to accept what was right in front of her face became a bit frustrating after a while. Her toing and froing became a bit monotonous, and after a while I really wanted Mr Right (no spoilers) to walk away and leave her to it!
Regardless, I did enjoy this story. It was light, with a good sprinkling of humour, lots of snarky repartee and generally a feel-good book. It was a great way to pass a rainy Sunday.
This book is absolutely adorable. It’s like a book-lover’s dream with a very cute, very fun online epistolary relationship floating through out. Maddie, our fabulous heroine has a ton of “almosts” going on. She was almost married, her fledgling writing career is almost getting off the ground, and her bookstore is almost going bankrupt. The book is about figuring out what to let go and what to fight for, what she really wants, and being willing to step out of “almost” and risk “all or nothing.”
Maddie has a few “possibles” for her love life, but it’s pretty clear who the hero is early on, even if her arc is figuring out what that hero looks like in the life and reality she wants and deserves. As a reader you so want that HEA for them and her, and while Maddie gets tempting in less-than-helpful directions you know her so well that you not only understand where she is mentally but have faith that she will eventually figure it out. I just adored this book so much. It’s ending made me smile so hard. Totally worth all the climbing and learning and growing. Love!
I had a hard time with this book. I found it difficult to get a read on Maddie, much less connect with her (which is something I think you want for a romance/women’s fiction read). Sometimes I could related, but most of the time, I really couldn’t – even though her overall circumstances weren’t that far out of the norm that I shouldn’t have been able to. Also, when it came down to it, she really treated Max horribly throughout quite a bit of the book and then, voila, they’re a happy couple? I never really felt that their relationship grew organically/believably.

Fans of You’ve Got Mail will be enthralled! I loved the mystery of the Silver Fox and his witty banter most of all. The book club is a group I wish existed in my personal life, and I felt a kinship with the members. I also enjoyed the perspective from an authors POV – as a reader, you don’t realize how much truly goes into the creating of a book, so this was a great eye-opener.
This was my first book by Mary Ann Marlowe. Wonderfully written. The book takes an ordinary woman through the twists and turns of life. It will be a warm hug the entire time you read. I have to tell you, that this book is definitely of the most fun books that I read all year. Will recommend to anyone that wants a vacation read!!
