Instead of collecting her soul, he captured her heart.
Marigold has a date with Death, but when she foils his plan to take her soul back to Hell, she invites him to dinner instead.
Mictain, a former Aztec god who collects souls for Satan, is baffled at his interest in the plump witch who can see him. Intrigued, and in lust, he can’t help pursuing her.
But things are never simple when gods are … never simple when gods are involved.
Lucifer, Lord of Hell, tries to warn him away, and even Marigold’s long-lost father decides to butt in. Yet, despite the opposition, things heat up between them, and Marigold learns that when Death comes calling, it’s best to get naked and invite him into bed—and her heart.

Loved it!
These two were perfect for each other! Both pretty cranky, in their own rights, both denying there was anything between them, yet, they end up with an HEA, which just sort of happened between their bickering and bedroom antics. I mean, who wouldn’t fall for a man who raises an army for you?
This was a fast read and such fun that I’m pretty sure I read it wearing a continuous grin. The novella continues the Welcome to Hell series and like the others can be read out of order or as a standalone without too much trouble.
When Death comes to call, Marigold the witch invites him back for a dinner date. Marigold acted on impulse, but is strongly attracted to the male who invaded her apartment one night. His timely appearance prevents her from a deadly mistake even though his purpose was to collect her soul after she made that mistake. She’s not sure what her snap decision will yield her, but she’s willing to gambling that it might bring her some fun between the sheets.
Mictain, former Aztec god of death now employed by the reaper, can’t believe it that the little, flirtatious human witch can see him. But he’s more intrigued by her sultry attitude and invitation for a date. That’s a bit of something out of the ordinary for the bored god. Unfortunately, Marigold’s ability gains Lucifer’s notice and the Lord of Hell wants to know why Marigold is different so Mictain’s invitation is now an opportunity/command to seduce her and glean intel.
Marigold is having a good time with Mictain until he flubs it and makes it clear that he is using her to find out answers. She is naturally miffed at being lied to and seduced so leads him on a merry chase realizing that she really cares more than she should about him.
Mictain will do anything to convince Marigold to forgive him, but even he didn’t imagine that it would include rescuing her from demonic attack and launching a war against her powerful ‘daddy dearest’. Meanwhile, Lucifer enjoys the fun of another matchmaking effort in Hell.
Light, fun, flirty and scorching hot is this entertaining paranormal that mixes at least three mythologies in the most entertaining way. The characters are at the least entertaining, but definitely engaging. Lucifer’s machinations are at the heart of this series along with his schemes to win the annual all-dimensions golf tourny. It’s always intriguing to see what pairings the author will give with each new book. The romance is unapologetically light, fast and angst-free.
Anyone who just wants something quick, entertaining and laugh-producing should grab up this book (series or anything else written by the author).
I loved it!
This review now covers both versions.
I own the short version and read the expanded book through my local library.
A short fun read about a sassy witch, Marigold, who cheats death, also known as Mictain, an Aztec god.
Loved the beginning when Marigold first sees Mictain.
A laugh out loud read once again with battles between gods and a lost father who gets his due.
Lots of Lucifer popping in at inopportune moments, silliness and great fun.
I loved the little short story but this new one really was a lot of fun.
Lucifer is up to his matchmaking tricks again.
Love Marigold and Mictain, thought they made a great couple and the story was a pleasant coffee time escape read.
