Lola doesn’t particularly want a new stepmother. Especially not one who has come out of nowhere and only been with her dad for three weeks. And – she’s not racist or anything – but since when did her dad like black women anyway?
Darling didn’t particularly want a new stepdaughter. Especially not one as spiteful and spoilt as Lola. She does want Lola’s dad though. And he wants her, so that’s that: Darling and Lola will just have to get used to each other.
Unless Lola can find a way to get rid of Darling.

I thought I would hate it a few pages in but it was really good!
Very boring, slow, and disappointing
I did not read this book. After several chapters, I found I was just not going to read it..the language was offense to me. I did not read far enough to get into the plot.
I deleted – did not bother to go any further than the first few chapters. Just not my ‘cup of tea’.
Oh My Darling!
Captivating back and forth between a princess and her wicked stepmother. At first a bit difficult to follow. Once the concept is captured, the dueling is much easier to follow. A confusing start with a stellar finish.
The story itself wasn’t too bad, however, it has a lot of British slang which made it a bit hard to read. I don’t know that I would necessarily recommend it. It did have a bit of a twist at the end.
Holy Cow! Well done Ms. Edwards! Well-done. A theme we’ve seen in so many books and movies, and I usually catch it out more quickly, but you did a stunning job. I actually loved “Darling”. Wonderful character development. Beautiful love story … completely unexpected, lol! Absolutely loved it. You did an excellent job and I thank you for such an entertaining read.
An intricate exploration of race, love and family, I was completely blown away by that ending!
Darling is part thriller, part domestic suspense, part YA, tackling some huge social issues and giving book club lots of food for thought. The story flows smoothly between Lola and Darling, telling the story of Darling meeting and marrying Lola’s father, and Lola’s extreme unhappiness about it. But everything in this angsty drama isn’t as it seems…
Loved the main characters, well written and definitely enjoyed the twist at the end. I felt like there were some gaps in the way the husband/father interacted with the other 2 characters. He could have had more weight and consequence to the story.
An interesting read with many twists.
I can think of nothing worthwhile to say about this poorly-written, unrealistic book. Avoid it.
Did not put it down for two days
I started this book several times trying to follow it. I finished it and I’m not really sure I totally understood what happened.
Just couldn’t get into it
This book sticks with you. You can’t believe she did it but you should have known all along. Very well written!!
Dark, deep, thought-provoking. What a debut! I recommend you go and read it!
Stunning. I swung back and forth, not knowing who to trust.
Since it was marketed as a thriller with a twist, and there are only two ways the story can go, it’s fairly obvious from the first page what’s going to happen. Hence, not a thriller.
Edwards builds a world so every day and yet so extraordinary that you can’t look away even when you want to. Stunning writing.
A great post-referendum book, pertinent and wise.
